Hello folks.

I'm coming over to join you now 'nugget' has arrived. He still hasn't got a name.

Will catch up on thread later on when I get the chance. Wishing you all a good night's sleep .

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BBM XXXXXXX

podglet · 30/05/2008 16:06

Hi all,

Quick catch up before we go away for the weekend. We are going to DP's Dad for the night tomorrow... packing has been interesting.

Pina / LM74, I know exactly what you mean about bedtimes. I have done a few on my own now and guaranteed that DD will mis-time her feeds that day and be bawling during that 6.30 - .00pm slot. Poor DS is a real mummy's boy at bed time so I just have to grit my teeth and get on with it. I settle her as best I can downstairs then off we go.

Flick, that's interesting about your DS1's reflux. The Gaviscon doesn't seem to be helping so I may give up on it.

Slings, I have 4 but use 2 mainly, a Connecta and a wilkinet, both of which I love. The connecta is easier to do up when you are on your own but the wilkinet is more supportive when they are teeny.

Congrats to the new mummies, pleased to see you!

Have good weekends all.

mumofk · 30/05/2008 19:07

LM74 hope you've had a better day today and got some help-hugs.

Pina- I reckon I could push the pram and use the ring sling, but I think I would be pushing the pram 1 handed a bit while I was getting to grips with it all! I had felt guilty bumping Jas around a bit when shopping with a 'high' trolley at the supermarket. I just kept forgetting how much she sticks out. Hopefully no lasting damage.... I'd just be prepared to practice a bit first, not be in any rush when going out at first, and try to find someone local for advice, but videos can be useful to watch. IMHO ring slings are one of the easiest to get to grips with- even my mum will use mine! your first day 'together' sounded very busy- hope you're not too knackered!

Health Visitors take on Jas's cough. 'ohh that doesn't sound good, does it? I'd take her to the drs, today, really'. Apart from that she HAS actually put on weight (was a bit worried she might have lost some with being poorly) and no other causes for concern. Dr said she's fine, she didn't cough on cue but, dare i admit it? we videod her so showed dr what she did on our camera, and he still reckoned she's fine, and didn't need antibiotics!phew, all reassured in this house.

Congrats BBM, and everone I've missed.

Sorry, not quite enough sleep, will try to do better tomorrow!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 30/05/2008 19:16

Aha! I've only just found the time to find you! Archie was born on Sunday 25th at 2 mins to midnight.

I'm still hanging out with the ladies-in-waiting on the ante but will try and catch up/get in the swing of this thread over the weekend...

luckymummy74 · 30/05/2008 21:58

HI all,

sorry, no time to do a proper post. Just to say thanks for messages of support. Had a better day today, feeding still problematic but I feel less stressed and tearful. Managed to express 4 oz today and DH just given it to DD2, and put her to bed. Hoping to get into an expressing routine so I get one break from feeding a day.

My nips are so sore though, they are purple!!! (not cracked or bleeding thankfully).

Off to my parents for the weekend in the morning, a 2 hr car journey with both DD's, wish me luck!!

Will post properly monday.....

LM xx

Casserole · 31/05/2008 10:11

1 handed typing, sorry.

LM and anyone else strugg;ing with BFing; have you checked for tongue tie? I've been struggling with feeding, such pain at every feed, was dreasing it and spent most of the time crying and trying not to swear. Had his tongue tie snipped on fridy and instant relief - it genuinely doesn't hurt now

i know if your nips are purple etc positioning's obviously a factor too, but in my case positioing BECAME a factor because I couldn't get him to latch on deep enough becaused of the tongue tie, so I was just trying to get him on best I could - to the detriment of my poor nipples. And it was making him more windy because he wasn't getting a deep enough latch, too, so more colic etc.

Anyway, might not be your problem but google it and see what you think. Hope that helps. Thinking of you xxx

Casserole · 31/05/2008 10:13

ps yes to expressing. I was expressing enough for 10:30pm and middle of night feed so my nipples got a break from 7pm-7am - meant they were MASSIVE when I woke up but it kept me going a bit in the meantime. Definitely definitey worth a try.

KangaAndRoo · 31/05/2008 22:12

Hi ladies!! finally remembered to come join you big lad is asleep on my knee as i type...he's been a bit restless this evening....nights are goin well...just 2 feeds at about 2am and 5.30am.

hope all mums n babies are well xx

macaco · 01/06/2008 13:43

Hi everyone,

Hope you're all doing well. Nicolás had his 2 month vaccinations this week and now weighs 4650g which I think is 10lb 4oz, quite an improvement on 2160g /4lb 12 at birth! (he was a 36 wk er). I've stopped bfing as with him being early and on formula from the 1st night in hospital it never really got going and it was really exhausting me and he was just hungry all the time. I feel SOOOOO much better since stopping and he's so much happier and more contented, sleeps better. We managed 8 weeks of mixed feeding so I'm pleased he got that much breast milk.

He's still doing a 2am and 6am feed but perhaps the way he's growing we might manage to lose the 2am within a couple of weeks. He was terribly windy while bfing but that seems to have eased a bit too strangely enough which means he goes down again more quickly after the night feeds.

At the 2 month paed check they said he wasn't fixing his gaze and following the object/face which worried me, but he does do it for me and anyway she said bearing in mind the 4 week early thing we shouldn't worry just yet. Also got a slightly flat head on one side as he tends to tip his head over one way so have to try repositioning. Amazing the things you have to worry about with a baby, isn't it?

Well today I'm 33 so mum's going to look after bab so we can go out to the cinema for the first time in ages!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and are all coping ok with bubs.

xx

thefortbuilder · 02/06/2008 08:07

just v quick catch up - macaco happy birthday - we also have a little flat bit on ds2's head and are attempting repositioning at every opportunity - i blame the nnu he was in for 8 days as they didn't reposition at all and we kept saying to them that it had been done with ds1 and shouldn't they do it. still caught early it should be ok.

not much else to report - ds2 now 10lb3 at 10 weeks so doing well, smiling as well - started doing it 9 days ago - must remember to note the date!

Hello all, another new joiner (Samuel born May 21st), not sure how much I'll manage to get on here as amazing how much time he takes up (like you don't all know!). All going well here, after shaky start and time in Special Care for Samuel, however seem to manage to find something new to worry about every day. Today he brought up quite a bit of milk earlier and now I'm worried he's not had enough milk today. We're not really in a routine yet so hard to compare, but yesterday he ate loads and today he's only fed a few times for a few minutes each time and he's a bit windy and complaining. I'm sure he's fine but as a new mum supportive comments welcome! He'd put on weight when they weighed him yesterday so I'm sure there's nothing to worry about really, but I can't help myself!

thefortbuilder · 02/06/2008 17:59

congratulations mayx3 - another samuel! ds2 is samuel - born 20th march.

do not we's brought up a load of milk - if he's hungry he'll let you know about it! they all have off days and a gret bit of advie i was given was to look at it over 3 days - we don't eat the same amount every day so 3 days in a row is a good time period.

anyway ds2 has thrown up this afternoon but has done a few sneezes as well so i suspect if he's anything like his brother he'll get an upset stomach at the first sign of anything wrong with him!

Hi all,

Had a lovely weekend and now DP has spoilt it by being an a*

mayx3 - congrats on the birth of Samuel firstly! Don't worry about the feeding, I am going to assume you are breast feeding and that is done "on Demand" i.e when they fancy it! So if he ate loads yesterday, he probably doesn't want so much today. He might have over filled his system earlier and getting rid of the excess. Am sure he will be fine. Hope that helps

Macaco - hope you had a happy birthday!

Pina - given up on the Gaviscon and have no idea what else to do am going back to the drs tomorrow I think as she is screaming after every feed with pain
Enjoy your sling when it arrives, you will soon wonder how you ever did without it!

LM74 - hope you are feeling better lovely

Flick - that's a good weight! Hurrah for smiles too, we are getting them here but infrequently. DD is 7 weeks tomorrow.

thefortbuilder · 02/06/2008 18:01

podglet are you ok?

also sounds silly have you tried gripe water? worked a treat with ds1 and ds2 has responded to it - might be worth a try as it's not too much of a waste if it doesn't work. also are you bf'ing still? if so try limiting chocolate(very unfair i know) and OJ)

OP posts:
podglet · 02/06/2008 18:13

Yeah, I'm ok thanks flick Just tired and a bit fed up

Gripe water ROCKS! It does work most of the time with DD but she has been really bad today, thinking about it I ate quite an amoutn of choc yesterday and 2 big glasses of juice will give them up for a bit and see what happens...

Thanks!

thefortbuilder · 02/06/2008 19:07

yeah unfortunately those are the two worst culprits for reflux and just making everything a bit too acidic!

OP posts:
mayx3 · 02/06/2008 19:11

Thanks for the advice - looking over a three day period sounds very sensible. He's fed well just now so I'm feeling better. Re the posts above is eating chocolate/OJ meant to affect breast milk and therefore baby? Only that I've been drinking lots of OJ (as low iron so recommended) and quite a bit of chocolate so maybe I should cut that out?

thefortbuilder · 02/06/2008 19:28

it can just make your bm more acidic - may be that he's not fancying the taste so much if you'e been having a lot of it and it's coincided with today?

you never know with these things though!
