caz, just found email now - sorry!! i will send in the morning

mathildas bedtime is 6.30/7 depending on when last nap was

loucee · 06/04/2008 21:23

Caz I think it's better for us having DS in his own room because we were finding it hard to whisper when we went to bed and we use our en-suite which we were afraid of waking him with plus he was a really really noisy sleeper (doesn't appear to be quite as noisy now though)but at the moment I am finding it very tiring going through to his room for 2, 4 and 6am but I wouldn't change it back now as everything else is settled.
I don't know why i am surprised at DS not sleeping well at the moment, DD didn't sleep through until well over a year and usually there's a night or three a week where she needs attention in the night!

Oh Suey why was your flight cancelled? Do you fly into Glasgow or Prestwick? At least it's stopped snowing and we had a lovely sunny evening here, what side of S'ven do your parents live?

Awen glad you aren't too sore following the repair, I hope you're happy with the results and that it heals quickly.

Got DS some cute outfits in H&M today, they have some gorgeous things in at the moment.

macdoodle · 06/04/2008 21:38

Bed time here aiming for 7pm (aiming for that holy grail of 7-7 sleep )...
Usually feed 5ish - bath - play/cuddle - then start bedtime feed and wind down 6:30ish - though usually 8ish by the time she has cluster fed and grizzled....
Of course this depends very much on DD1 dinner/activities/mood etc...
BUT that is my ideal....am hoping to settle DD2 by 7 and then have an hour with DD1 before her bedtime of 8
So saying they were both sound asleep in their own beds by 8:30pm tonight ...and they are both still asleep!!

kelbel · 06/04/2008 21:40

ds bedtime is 7pm, stirs about 10 but can usually be sshhd off. then has a feed maybe twice after that and wakes for the day about 7.

OMG the weather is awful here!

he's still in our room, apart from the whole 6 month thing, i find it much easier with bf. he is also in the big cotbed now and he seems to be much more comfortable. sleeps on his side or front, which i know isnt recomended but he will not sleep on his back.

what age is everyone going to start weening? ds is 16 weeks today and i'm just strting to think about it, probs about 20 weeks.

might have to pay h&m a visit

Wizzska · 06/04/2008 21:59

DS had his first baby rice tonight Kelbel. He is 18 weeks now. He just had a teaspoonful of baby rice mixed with 2 desert spoons of formula. He grizzled at first but seemed quite interested. I think it was frustration because he wasn't sure how to take it off teh spoon. He held the spoon wiht his hand and put his fingers in his mouth. In the end he ate the lot together with 2 tits full for pudding! He's been watching us intently recently when we're eating - he's fascinated.

Tits still hurt from last night. Have ice cubes in my bra to sooth.

Loucee - I've not put DS in his own room yet because he wakes up too often in the night and think it would be a PITA to go to him in another room each time he wakes, however perhaps he'll not wake so much if he's in his own room.

Well ds is in his cot, so far so good. At least it is in our room. Though night not looking good as he was only asleep 2 hous before waking - we usually get 3 hours at this time. It may because his nappy leaked (DH made a bit of a hash of putting it on ).

Bouncingturtle · 07/04/2008 07:11

Well it actually went quite well!
He went down at 10pm, he did wake up at 12.15 am, but that was to do a poo. I changed him, put him back in his cot and by the time I dealt with his nappy he was asleep.
He woke 1am, gave him his dodie and went to sleep. Then woke up at 2am and 4am for feeds. Then at just before 6 he decided he had had enough sleep.
He didn't take huge amounts at the 2am feed, hoping if he can sleep through til 2am (without doing a poo!) maybe he'll take more as he'll be less sleepy. Well I can hope...

So are we already for the week? Who has had snow? We've had heavy snow showers in Teesside but none of it stuck.

claraquitetirednow · 07/04/2008 09:22

Hello, my name is Clara, mother of Martha, and we have been dummy free for 24 hours!

I don't have anything against dummies but it was driving me mad having to get up several times a night to put it back in.

She had it for none of her naps yesterday, all went well, so when we put her down (awake) last night we didn't give it to her then either.

Well she did cry for 20-30 minutes, but it was more of a tired grizzley cry rather than a distressed cry. Eventually she fell asleep and slept 7 - 10.30pm (feed), 10.30 - 3.15 (feed); 3.15 - 6am!! She stirred a few times but got herself off again without needing the dummy, so I am a very happy mummy this morning .

Wizzska · 07/04/2008 09:49

Clara mother of Martha, well done you!!! I think I'm going to have to follow in your footsteps. DS does love his dummy but also loves pulling it out of his mouth and putting it back in, except he usually drops it and then cries. Nightmare.

Bouncing, we had heavy snow in london yesterday morning but it was gone by lunchtime. Did have a few snowy showers last night and there was a light sprinkling this morning. I hate this weather, after such a gorgeous day on Friday. DS loved looking at the big snowflakes falling yesterday though.

Still got a sore tit. Why?

suey2 · 07/04/2008 09:53

good job, clara! am very
millie up all night rubbing her eyes.

back to flights- lizzer - buggy: for shortr trips i just use the bjorn. Longer i use the bugaboo with car seat. Base gets checked in and car seat comes onto plane. THen if there is spcae, they will often give you a spare seat and you don't have to handle your LO all the time.

Loucee- ma lives right in the middle of s'ven opposite the rankin church. Flight cancelled because of snow at gatwick. Bloody soft southerners

macdoodle · 07/04/2008 10:08

wooohoooo Lil slept from 8:30pm to 6am NOT a sound .....can i boast can i can i - thats 2 nights in row

Bouncingturtle · 07/04/2008 10:57

Mac - yes you can boast
Suey - I know bit of snow Darn Souf and it's front page news
Claraq - well done you, I have the same prob as Wizz, he pulls it out of his mouth too! Thinking I could do without the dummy, have you any tips?

MamaMaiasaura · 07/04/2008 11:32

well done clara and martha

Kelbel - I am not planning on starting solinds till6 months. I started ds1 on thenm at 4 months as recommended and it didnt 'feel' right. He didnt seem to enjoy it and it didnt seem to be of great benefit to him so early. I have really looked into the recommendations on BLW and not starting till at least 6 months which i am going to follow this time. My milk has everything he needs and is only for such a relatively short time that i am in no hurry to start solids. Also means having to sterilise etc etc and I am too lazy I reckon from 6 months as they are shoving toys etc in their mouths the sterilising bit doesnt have to be so hot (except for milk based products!). Also have ds2 in with us still (the SIDS guidlines for 6 months at least). I am co-sleeping but when he starts really moving will be encouraging his cot which is next to bed. He already goes in it for relaxing time to get him used to it.

Ds2 wathces us intently when eating but I have read and been advised not to take this as a sign that they want solids. They are just interested in what you are doing.

Well so much for me feeling all happy with extra long sleep night before last.. fed 8pm, 2.30am, 6.30 am and then 10am. Not too bad though, just got spoiled with long one.

MamaMaiasaura · 07/04/2008 11:32

oohh Mac - lovely sleep there x

buzzybee · 07/04/2008 11:43

Hope you all feel better those with aches and pains - and repair work owww!

DD is only just 14 weeks so won't start weaning for a couple of weeks at least yet but have started thinking about maybe making up some ice-cube trays for those first mini-meals of carrots, pears etc.

Her new noises are absolutely hilarious. Squawking interspersed with gargling!! I really wish there was some way to post noises to this website so we could compare babytalk!

Claireybee - yes definitely an auspicious day, very easy to remember too!

wobbegong · 07/04/2008 11:43

Interesting to read about the weaning. I think it is some way off in this household- DD seems to sleep OK most nights and has shown zero interest in our food.

Bedtime here is 2100 but I am trying to sneak it forward without her noticing....

What's up with the boob Wizzska? Is it just painful all over or just in one bit? You know you can get a kind of gel insert to go in your bra which you can heat up or cool down, to soothe discomfort. I have one you are welcome to borrow- ring me and I'll drop it off if you like.

Feeling rather blah today. I thought I was over the baby blues which hit me like a ton of bricks in the first six weeks, but recently I've found myself roaming the flat at three in the morning unable to sleep for worrying about stupid things. Does anyone else feel trapped? I guess it's a natural response to having so many options in life closed down by the new arrival. I also have the achey joints everyone else is reporting- weird how it hits us all at the same time!

Off now to pull myself together- exercise, proper food, arrange to get out of the flat and see people, plan holiday etc.

loucee · 07/04/2008 11:46

Macdoodle Brilliant news!! Well done ! i am so !

Last night I turned the monitor to mute - I heard DS at 3am so fed him and that was his only waking from 8-7 so I'm pleased and hope that continues! DD woke at 1am and DH's snoring woke me at 5am though so not as much sleep as I'd hoped!

Suey my friend lives next dr to the R church , hers is the yellow hse! great location

macdoodle · 07/04/2008 11:57

Dilemma - Lil fell asleep on my bed propped up on one pillow while me and DD1 were getting dressed having tidy ...she is flat out!!
Sooo do I risk putting her in cot and waking her....am to nervous to leave her as worried she will roll head into pillpw and smother or choose now to roll over and fall off bed ...at mo am sat with laptop and cofee next to her but really have things I need to get on with...or I could just lie down and have a nap with her ....
Sooo much sleep must be due a growth spurt

Wizzska · 07/04/2008 12:17

Mac - if she's that asleep, I'd risk moving her, even if just for your peace of mind.

Wobbe - Hope you feel better soon, if you want to come over for a moan feel free. Could it be the weather, I'm finding it a bit depressing.

I've got one of those gel rings. Goodness knows what's up with my boob, no lumps it just feels bruised. I think I must have got engorged in the night and it bruised or something. Weird as usually I just leak.

claraquitetirednow · 07/04/2008 14:03

BT - she was pulling or spitting her dummy out of her mouth all the time too, so I didn't feel TOO mean taking it away. I'm afraid I don't really have any clever tips, we just sort of went cold turkey, although I have given her a little comfort blanket as a replacement and she seems to suck/snuggle/chew on that now instead.

The other reason we decided to go for it now was that she was taking longer and longer to settle even WITH the dummy so it wasn't such a huge jump. I think most people end up doing "sleep training" at some point so it might as well be now.

Oh, and we were still using a newborn dummy - probably the reason she was pulling it out was that it wasn't the right size to give her adequate comfort any more. The alternative to getting rid of the dummy would be to get one for the next size up? A friend of mine used a dummy clip and said that worked very well - but her ds was 9 months.

Another friend still gets up most nights to her son, who has always had a dummy, and he is 2.6 years old. That is one of the main reasons I decided to try and get rid now!!!

Good luck if you do decide to go for it....

claraquitetirednow · 07/04/2008 14:05

Macdoodle - well done on the good night's sleep. I think you are allowed to boast, I know if when Martha decides to sleep through I will be using one of those non-existent proud mum emoticons!

claraquitetirednow · 07/04/2008 14:06

On another subject has anyone got or used the Davina post-pregnancy pilates exercise dvd (or anything similar)? I am thinking of getting it as I really want to try and get rid of my jelly belly.

claraquitetirednow · 07/04/2008 14:09

Sorry for all the posts but just read yours Wobbegone. I was feeling pretty down a few days ago, I think it is quite natural to feel like this now: 1) all the immediate post-baby excitment is over; 2) you are probably still knackered most of the time 3) the babies are still quite hard work, as they need more and more entertaining but can't sit up yet so you have to be constantly finding things to do with them.

No real answers, but I usually find a good walk in the fresh air helps. Along with a nice bit of chocolate (but see my post below about my jelly belly)

cazzybabs · 07/04/2008 14:13

gggrrrrr - as well as a leaky roof we now have a blocked sewer. someone is comimg tomorrow to fix it (fingers crossed). They wanted to come today but the dds 1 and 2 have a playdate - i thought maybe the smell of sewage may put them off coming again.

i think evie is teething. she is so dribbly and has started to suck her bottom lip over her gums. she was also quite cryie yesterday which is unlike her. i cannot believe she is 16 weeks.
