Hello

It is quiet on here at the moment isn't it?

Welcome Lesleyella!

Good Luck going back to work Suey. I'm not due back until Dec but could go back earlier if money is really tight.

They're really growing up now aren't they? My dd is now in to the pushchair part of her travel system too as she really fills up the carrycot now and doesn't seem to like it anymore. She is so nosey and can see more from the pushchair!!

I have now stopped breastfeeding ! DD's last feed was on Sun am and I have to say I am so glad. Giving up hasn't been as bad as I thought either - my boobs have only been a bit uncomfortable and I have been using the breast pump sparingly and taking ibuprofen. I did give up slowly which helped.

DD is absolutely fine with bottles, in fact I'm slightly offended at how little fuss she made about having formula . To think that I have been agonising about giving up....

Feeding is so quick and easy now even with making up bottles. The way I look at it is that I now have more time to enjoy my baby as I have more time to play with her etc. She is also having more naps during the day (this was a real struggle before) but still sleeps through so things going OK here for now. She is definitely getting 2 teeth at the bottom though so I'm sure that will all change soon!

lesleyella · 15/05/2008 10:59

hello there.

It goes so fast. doesn't it. DD is rolling over and desperate to crawl although so far she can only go backwards ... but it keeps me on my toes. Unfortunately she is rubbish sleeping at night so I am still up several times in the night. We are having our loft converted at the moment (chaos) but when that is done she can go in her own room which may help.

I am planning to return to work in September but not looking forward to it at all ... cant imagine leaving her for a whole day.

suey2 · 15/05/2008 12:18

crawling already? that's impressive. My LO gets stuck lying on her front, knows she wants to move and gets very peed off that she can't.
Enjoying giving her wee tastes of things, although i am not going to wean her until 6 months. She was sucking quite happily on a bit of tomato and some mango- but the funny thing is, she is trying to suckle, not bite and chew. She likes the taste though, and loves watching DH and I eat

Lizzer · 15/05/2008 12:50

Hello all! Gosh i've not been on here for a while (now ds has cut his feeds down and drains a boob in 3 mins flat there's not as much laptop time for me, LOL) Also i wrote a long msg last friday and i lost it so fell out with mn for a while
I was going to post y'day but BT reminded me that there was a bf meeting in alocal cafe for bf awareness week so i toddled along there to show support (thanks again bt). Glad i went too as there were only a few mums there, its a small town though so to be expected..however my (lovely) hv was there so i had a nice chat with her and a couple of other mums. Felt quite broody after seeing a few teeny weeny lo's

As for bfing I think i'm feeling exactly the same as last time with dd, hate the first 2 months, tolerate the next 2 then love love love it after that So i'll carry on for as long as possible, i'm lucky ds will take a bottle too but as he's only feeding 4-5 times in 24hrs now its rarely necessary, and he just loves it too-when i lie him down on my lap he starts throwing his legs up and down and shouting at my boob-so funny!

He rolled over for the 1st time last night [proud] waited til daddy got home too.

Suey, you are so organised, you're one of those people i dream about being more like

Hi lesleyella

Ds went in his carrycot pram all of 5 times in his life-he hated lying flat!

Sorry about your crap night out Fifi, that's exactly why i'm avoiding going out

hi clairey, i might try ds in the sling on my back, he's too heavy for the front now and i'd forgot it could do that!! Thanks for reminding me, sorry you're not getting the sleep sorted (and bt). I can't believe that ds has been going straight through since putting him in his own room-i really didn't want to do it that early but it worked so we'll go with that!

Byer for now

claireybee · 15/05/2008 12:50

Hi Lesleyella!

Interestng about how LO's are different in pushchair to pram-have never had a pram just lie flat pushchair. Am still mostly using the sling rather than hefting the double out of the front door but maybe ds would prefer the pushchair if I sat him up a bit...although he'd only be able to see the back of dd's head so maybe not!

DS just slept for nearly 2 hours which is pretty much unheard of since he was a couple of weeks old. Hopefully the nighttime sleep will improve soon too!

Caz lots of my summer clothes don't go over my bosoms (I love that word-what I have normally doesn't count as bosoms!) cos I have had them for over 3 years so they date to pre children. How I wish I could go shopping and buy the sorts of clothes I see mentionned on MN style t!

claireybee · 15/05/2008 12:52

style threads that should be, laptop keeps stalling

claireybee · 15/05/2008 12:56

Ooh Lizzer grr! If only ds had his own room to go into, my problems could be over

I couldn't manage the back wrap for ages but looked at lots of different ways of doing it on web and now can get him on pretty quickly. still need a mirror to spread the fabric out though! I've found the ties that need a knot on your chest are easier cos the knot holds them on while you do the rest BUT the knot can dig into your chest a bit if you carry them for a long time..

becklespeckle · 15/05/2008 13:03

Hello all! Is nice to be back, computer stopped working a couple of weeks ago, it couldn't detect its own hard drive! Popped in a new power supply now though and it seems to be up and running again thank goodness, felt lost without it! The babies all seem to be growing up really fast now don't they?! Evie is now an expert roller and has even managed to get from front to back a couple of times too! She has also cut her first tooth! Am really going to miss her gummy smiles when it gets bigger but think it will make her look even cuter. During the hot weather I decided to give her some water from a bottle as she was wanting little feeds so often and was very pleased as she drank it with relish! Have been fretting for ages about bottles but hopefully she will be fine when the time comes, perhaps it is an age thing though as DS2 was around her age when he first accepted a bottle, he was a nightmare when younger! To all those experiencing some jealousy with older children, I think I now have a little of the same from DS2 (5). He has started to be a little so and so when it comes to doing anything he is asked and I wonder if the change in his behaviour is to do with the fact that as DD is getting older and more interactive she is needing more attention? Perhaps also he realises she is not going anywhere too? I have also struggled to get the room temperature down at night, I have been putting DD in a long sleeved vest under a 1 tog grobag and she seems fine. I don't intend on buying any heavier weight ones though as my house is quite warm all year round so I think she would overheat!

Suey, glad you are a lot better now! Just shows that we all need to look after ourselves to make sure things like colds don't get out of hand. Millie sounds a lot like Evie with her weight, Evie started on the 99.9th centile and she is now just below the 75th. Also 2 weeks late but she is happy and seems healthy so I am not too worried and the HVs I see are not either.

Fifi, hello again! Glad you are okay, your boys are really cute!

Amani, sorry to hear you are still having such a hard time of it, FWIW I think you are doing a great job. Hope you enjoyed your time with your family and it lifted you a bit.

Lesleyella, hi and welcome! My DD was very nearly an Ella - is a lovely name! Don't envy you living in the middle of building works but is great that the noise doesn't seem to bother your LO!

Anyway, thats it from me for now, hopefully computer will keep behaving itself and I won't be away so long next time!

BouncingTurtle · 15/05/2008 16:24

Clothes - Aggh!! Still haven't got that many clothes that fit and are easy to bf in, but going with a friend in a couple of weeks to shop for a Christening outfit, as she is far more stylish than me
Ds isn't rolling yet, he turns onto his side andcranes his neck so far back, his head is practically touching his back
He'll get there eventually!

fifisworld · 15/05/2008 16:26

Hi Lesleyella, very impressed that your dd is almost crawling. Ethan can't quite get onto his front yet, he gets his arm stuck under him and gets himself all annoyed. Im sure its just that he's got so much weight to move

Ethans sitting up in his pushchair now as well. He used to lie flat in the double buggy but hates being like that now.

DS2 is normally a angel but the last few days has been a nightmare. He was 2 at end of April and im hoping its just a phase. He threw a plastic building block for Ethan yesterday and it cut his head a bit. It wasn't intentional i dont think, he just tries to play with Ethan but doesnt realise that he's too small.

suey - How was work?

Hope everyone else is ok

skidaddle · 15/05/2008 16:52

hi all, sorry no time to write properly but just wanted to say to clairey, caz, macdoodle, BT and others who are still ex BF and having awful nights - not that i'm suggesting you do this at all but just for information - I finally caved in last night and gave DS some baby rice. he loved it and slept 7.30pm - 3am and then back down until 7am!! This is after 6 or 7 wakes a night!!! I know it doesn;t always work but if you're getting desperate it is an option. I feel like a new woman, was up at 6.30 expressing and making a lovely breakfast for everyone!!

suey2 · 15/05/2008 17:21

hi skid

fifi, thanks for asking. It was actually really nice going to work. Apart from some irritating things i had to sort out, it was really enjoyable. As it is my own business, i came homw at lunchtime ready for the 2pm feed then did some admin at home with the nanny looking after millie. Tuesday was all day, but not a problem. I guess i am lucky that i have a rewarding job, it was really good having normal adult conversations: although of course they all wanted to know about the wee one

claireybee · 15/05/2008 17:36

Wow Skid talk about instant results!

I think that as I have currently adjusted to no sleep I will wait a while longer (don't even ask me why I am being so stubborn cos I don't know-I think because I regret trying to wean dd early and all the stress that followed...). Tis only 3 weeks anyway!

Sorry the first line of my last post sounded a bit carry on! I wasn't coming on to you Lizzer just typed what came into my head and unfortunately it sounded different on screen to how I thought it!! The grr was in relation to your ds sleeping through ok????

Glad you enjoyed being back at work Suey, I cannot believe how quickly that has gone.

lesleyella · 15/05/2008 20:22

must admit I have been giving Ella some baby rice for a few weeks now but have not had such a good nights sleep as you, Skiddadle. Have also tried pear puree ... which has not gone well and carrot puree which she loves. Very messy business, specially as she wants to hold the spoon, but she seems to really like it and until she started she was getting really bad cholic type pains in the night and now they have all but disappeared. And I must admit she naps much better during the day.

But oh!!! Why oh why wont she sleep better at night?

Caz10 · 15/05/2008 21:47

Oh skid...I am soooooooooooooo tempted..................eeek!

So glad for you though, dd's sleep has never been this bad and it's awful!

BouncingTurtle · 16/05/2008 06:35

Yep I was tempted by Skid's suggestion, then saw Lesleyella's post!
Not the best of nights he woke up 3 times last night between 7.30 and 5.45 this morning. At 3am (1.5 hours after his last feed) he woke up chatting very loudly to himself. So fed him to try and induce him back to sleep, and it did work. But WHY is he waking up to chat!!!!!

fifisworld · 16/05/2008 08:01

For those of you thinking about weaning why dont you try some ready break or weetabix mixed with there baby milk. This was what i done with ethan and he loved it and it really filled him. Only intended on giving him a few spoonfuls but he ate the full bowl
Im off out today, ive been in all week and feel very isolated. Going up to my dads then think i will have a sunbed coz i can leave the kids with him. Then he's coming to babysit tonight, dp is taking me out for a meal

suey2 · 16/05/2008 08:28

doesn't weeetabix have a lot of salt in, fifi?

fifisworld · 16/05/2008 08:34

I'm not too sure actually suey , but you can get the baby cereals as well like apple and banana and that gets mixed with there milk, i just meant something that you can give them with there milk as well so they are not going straight on to solid foods...dont know if that makes sense but i know what i mean

lesleyella · 16/05/2008 09:05

eek, we had a disasterous night last night ... asleep at 8pm, woke at 10pm so I fed her and she slept until 12 and then woke up again every hour until 6pm when she woke up full of smiles!!! Feels like the sleep is getting worse not better and I just dont know what to do.

Very very tired mummy today !

suey2 · 16/05/2008 09:07

poor you, lesleyella . Is she still in your room? I can't remember

Caz10 · 16/05/2008 09:29

Hi! Mine is at it too , waking every hour...must be an age thing? I have just moved her into her cot (still our room) and wondered if she missed the security of the moses basket - but seeing how well she sleeps when i put her down to nap on top of our big double bed i don't think the space is the issue!

bl00dy knackered...zzzzzzzzzzz

BouncingTurtle · 16/05/2008 10:36

2 biscuits of Weetabix contain 0.5g salt, so ok as long as that was all they were having - and I'd be impressed at any baby of our babies' ages devouring two
However it is NOT recommended to give anything containing gluten (such as wheat or oat cereals) before 6 months, as it can lead to food intolerances in later life. Before 6 momthsthe gut is not mature enough to be able to efficiently breakdown gluten.
Still wavering on the baby rice thing... DH is not bothered either way...

lesleyella · 16/05/2008 12:48

she is in our room in a bedside cot ... but will soon be in her own room when our loft conversion is finished ... am hoping that may help. 5 months of no sleep is taking its toll!!!

claireybee · 16/05/2008 14:02

Oh God I am so glad I am not the only one-Caz and Lesleyella if your dd's start sleeping then just don't tell me ok?! BT Your nights seem marginally better than ours so fingers crossed for you.

Skid did he sleep as well last night or was it a one off?!

Having a bad day today-ds screamed for over an hour this morning and started again this afternoon. Have given him some calpol and he is asleep now. How on earth did I cope when he was screaming all day everyday as a tiny baby?!??? Felt like I was losing it today after only 20 mins or so! Could be teeth I think, he is so dribbly and chomping away at his fist the whole time. Will be amazed if he actually gets any soon though-dd was one before she did! Must get some ashton and parsons in, have the boots own ones but they are not as good IMO
