Toby slept for 9 hours straight last night! Yippee! We've had some rubbish nights lately so last night was wonderful. He will be 12 weeks tomorrow. I can't believe how quickly the time has gone by.

I'm in awe of those of you attempting to lose weight already. I really must start making attempts at it myself, but seem to be permenantly starving. Ah well, will have to start using some willpower.

XantheP · 17/04/2008 11:37

Hi,
Am a bit late to this thread, but was wondering if I could join?

My daughter was born on 19th January - Silvie. I've also got a daughter who's just turned two - Thea. It's lovely to read up on how your little ones are all doing and compare notes! With my first daughter, I've got friends from antenatal classes who I kept in touch with, so there was always someone there with a baby the same age. With Silvie I don't have this (too busy with toddler groups etc!) so it's great to see what other babies the same age are up to.

Silvie's doing really well, but my only gripe is that she doesn't go to sleep for the night until about 10pm, which means that I don't get an evening. I see some of yours go down at 7pm and am jealous! . However, she does go through the night, until she is woken up by Thea (far too early this morning - 5.30am!), and feeds about every 3 hours during the day.

She's also started to take much more interest in the world around her, and loves her baby gym.

It's been a struggle with two under two, but it's got a lot easier in the last few weeks.
xx

mixedmama · 17/04/2008 12:53

Welcome Xanthe.

I have two under 2. Well DS1 is about two months over two. There are quite a few on here with two little ones. Amani, Katy1 and filly buster are a few that spring straight to mind.

madmouse · 17/04/2008 12:54

Hi Xanthe, welcome.

don't worry, my Nathan (1 feb)does not go down before 10, and usually feeds at 11, 2 and 7. how are you feeding your lo? i still demand breastfeed so i am not counting on through the night yet but i get my hours of sleep anyway.

XantheP · 17/04/2008 14:25

Thanks for the welcome! Madmouse, I am breastfeeding, and try to get her to stretch to three hours, but if she seems hungry before then I'll feed her - so sort of on demand but with a bit of a vague routine going too!

Right, am supposed to be cooking pasties for DD1 while DD2 sleeps! xx

gingeme · 17/04/2008 16:51

Afternoon ladies.
Welcome XantheP I have two under 2 and a four year ols at home.
Mixedmamma good luck with your new job. What exactly is it theyre going to operate on your kneee or your foot and what is it for?
I had my second and last treatment today and it feels so much better. Got some arch supports too.
George has changed his sleeping pattern again He now sleeps from 7.30- 12.30 has a 7oz bottle then sleeps till 5.30am. Not bad I hear you say but my other two wake about 7am so by the time hes had his milk and settled back to sleep I only have another hour til I have to get up with them Im knackered again...

nicky6 · 17/04/2008 18:35

gingeme - charlie seems to be changinf times too. So am tried something different today helped by the fact that we have not left the house as i have flu.

it seems sometimes she'll eat 4hourly then other times 3. sometimes eat 3oz othertimes 5oz. so have been watching her today and have ended up with a last feed of 7 rather than 6 so everything is a bit later, am also going to try the dream feed and see if apart from the dream feed she will go through.

Am just hoping she doesnt get what i have swollen glands achey in every bone etc etc. Felt so bad i nearly rang my mum and asked her to come up but nurofen seems to have staved off worst of it. Even missed my salsa class.

hi xanthep you are very welcome to join our babbling thread

Naetha · 17/04/2008 19:22

Sorry don't have much time to post (dinner nearly ready and Ben hopefully asleep!) but just wanted to say that Ben has learned to roll over from his back to his stomach and now won't stop doing it! I think we're going to have to baby-proof faster than we thought! He did it first at the NCT class when he was laying on the floor there, then repeated it at home - me and DH are so chuffed!

Anyway, sorry I'll shut up now!

Hope all are well, hugs to all

AngeChica · 17/04/2008 20:09

Hi all, Alek has been waking at night lots this week, feeding at say 11 - 2 - 5. I am knackered! Maybe teeth, maybe growth spurt, am quite disheartened at the top ups not working though!

Has anyone been to Odeon newbies, our BF group are going next week. What happens if a baby cries - do you have to take them out of the room?

ayrshirelolo · 17/04/2008 20:47

Hi girls! Sorry, haven't been on for a couple of weeks, it's been a bit hectic up here, my sister wasn't well, uncle dropped dead, loads of fairly horrible stuff and no real time to get on here! hope everyone is ok, don't have time to read through everything and catch up, so if anyone has done a big catch up recently can someone point me in the right direction? thanks!
Meanwhile my 2 horrors are fab as usual, Alexis goes down about 7.30 - 8, same time as her big sister! and sleeps through till 4.30 at the earliest, as late as 6.30 some days..... we're getting there! dd1 was doing a 12 hour sleep by about 3 months, so i'm hoping Alexis will be the same! i don't know how those of you feeding 2 or 3 times a night are still coping, i'm not exactly a routine nazi, but i'm afraid alexis has never had a choice about the time she goes to bed! she's down to 5 feeds a day, and tends to want them about 5am, 9.30/10ish, 1ish, 5ish and 7ish, which is brilliant!
anyway, hope everyone is doing well, love lolo xx

gingeme · 17/04/2008 20:58

Oh nicky how horrid. Hope your feeling much better soon.
Neatha George did this for the first time yesterday too great isnt it? Our lo's are so clever.
lolo Alexis sounds fab. Can she give George some tips please? Mind you saying that my other ds's all slept 12 hours by 5 months so hopefuly George will follow in their foot steps too.
Oh Ive updated my pics on my profile page. My big boys are on it

madmouse · 17/04/2008 22:02

Lolo, old friend, how nice to see you around glad you are doing well.

Nathan is also changing his sleeping pattern. I thought four hour stretches were a thing of the past (no more colic - no more exhausted dropping asleep on my shoulder), but the last few nights he has given me a 3 hour and a 4.5 hour stretch of sleep, which is lovely, except it has my body clamouring for more and I wake up rather groggy. He was very keen to go to sleep tonight, even though he has not eaten overly much. Maybe because we started the day at 7 instead of nine? He had some good naps though, which always makes a difference.

Naetha and Ginge, Nathan is obsessed with trying to roll over. It is all he does on his playmat, whether he is on his back or his front. If he is on his front he has now worked out how to place his shoulder, but not how to take his legs with him, if on his back he has it all sorted but can't work out how to get over his shoulder. He cries with frustration, making it hard to decide when to pick him up and when to leave him to it for a bit!

Here you go ladies this will make you smile this Friday morning!!!!

A: No, 35 children is enough.

mixedmama · 18/04/2008 12:18

bluebell - that certainly did make me smile.

gingeme - they are going to operate on my ankle. I had anle supports a while back, they were like the things you get if your shoes are a little big but with arches. Tbh I didnt like them and stopped wearing them. When I was in school I had plastic cups that went all the way around my heals. Apparently, if they had operated when I was younger (instead of insisting that it was growing pains etc) it would have been a very simple push it back in place but now it could involve and actual break and reset of the ankle. They said it was my choice whether I just carried on with inserts and things or went for op. But, they said it will get worse rather than better. Had a crazy cant talk type migraine the day i was meeting with the surgeon so was unable to get all the details so getting re-referred.

Hey to everyone.

barristermum · 18/04/2008 13:36

Hi Girls - happy friday and a special happy passover to filly.

Nicky - I'v had the same thing you've had this week - soaring temp and now a throat like sandpaper. Have been practically wearing a surgical mask to try and avoid Cerys getting it.

Bravo Naetha - Cerys can roll if you put her arms in the right place - otherwise she is just like Nathan madmouse and twists and flips like a fish on the decks until she cries with frustration.

Good luck on job mixedm - I return to work in 3 weeks and am trying to gey my head round it but just feel miserable at the thought!

And to all others much love as well
Sxx

Amani · 18/04/2008 15:25

Hello ladies,

Hope you and your little ones are ok. Not been on for a long time, as I have had one long rollercoaster week?

Late last Friday evening I get a call from my GP saying she received the results of DD2 ear swab test and she is very concerned about the results and must come in ASAP. This frightened me and I got the kids ready in record breaking time and reach the surgery where I am told my DD2 has a sever ear infection by a rare type of bug that is not commonly found in young children and is not treatable with the antibiotics initially prescribe and must go IMMEDIATELY to the children?s ward of my local hospital to get specialised treatment otherwise it can spread quickly further into the ear. So dashed to the hospital with DH and DD1 (had no one to look after her) and as the Children?s Ward had been forewarned of our arrival, as soon as we got there DD2 was taken from us, weighed, examined and ears seen by three different doctors (scary but makes a change from hanging around). A lot of umming and ahhing was going on as she needed a drip put into her little hands and the staff were unsure of how to do it as they were afraid that the aneseptic wipes used prior to inserting the needle (sp?) might trigger her eczema. Eventually they got a drip going and for the next 48 hrs my poor baby was like that and having regular painkillers and waking for feeding and then going straight back to sleep. After that the drip was removed and she?s been on AB and we eventually came out of hospital yesterday AM. However for the rest of the day DD2 just cried and cried and wouldn?t settle and feed well and we took her back to the Children?s Ward pm where the doctor confirmed there was further swelling in her right ear i.e. same infection as like the left ear. Was advised to continue with AB and painkillers prescribed. Last night was an awful night for us, despite the painkillers DD2 cried all night and slept only 2 hrs. We were so desperate for some sleep that I even took her for a drive at 4am, which settled her for ½ hr then the whole crying episode started again. However today she is a little more settled and I?ve dropped DD1 into nursery for a few extra hours just so I can rest (oh and catch up with 1 weeks worth of laundry, dirty dishes and cook a proper meal instead of eating junk). We?ve got to go back to the ENT specialist in a few weeks time to have DD2 hearing tested as her ear drums had burst and becaue of the bug she had, to ensure it has heald properly so PLEASE everyone send me lots of positive vibes as I am so worried about it. Been told there is a 10% her ear drums might not heal properly. I keep making loud noises to test DD2 reaction to them as I am so worried.

Just can?t believe what I thought was an ear infection would turn out to be something serious as that. ?.

barristermum · 18/04/2008 16:17

Goodness Amani - you poor poor scrap and poor dd2 as well. On the positive side it sounds like you had some fantastic care from the professionals and that they are completely on top of the situation. Fingers crossed and hope and pray. We are all rooting for her obviously. As a side issue- at a time like that there is a law you must eat junk and not worry about the house going to hell in a handcart. Treat yourselves to an indulgent weekend.

LuckySalem · 18/04/2008 17:09

Amani - I'm so sorry to hear about that and echo BM in the kind words about the docs.

LOLO - Sorry to hear about all the bad news, hope you're ok.

Aaliyah is currently asleep so I thought i'd grab 5 mins on comp before I have to do some washing.

Aaliyah can roll from belly to back but not the other way yet - Im assuming this is nothing to worry about as a girl in our toddler group has only just done it and she's nearly 6 months old so i'll give her a little time.
However, she has learnt how to blow raspberry's and pull tongues. Not to mention giggling loads at mummy's silly dancing to "cops and robbers" lol.

I'm glad i'm not the only one with a waking baby at night still. I wonder whether I'm letting her sleep too much during the day. Like today she got up at 7:15, had breakfast and fell asleep again at 9am for 1/2 hr, then dinner and has been asleep now since 1pm. (Why can't she sleep this long during the night?) Last night she was awake at 11, 1 and 4:30. I'm shattered. lol.

Also I know when she wakes up that she's gonna want a bottle and will probably drink another 2/3 before bed at 9. Do you think it's worth me putting her on the 2nd milk and just making her drink loads of water?

I've decided not to go to toddler grp much anymore as everytime I go, I'm getting shouted at for something or other. This time it was that I shouldn't have walked across carrying her cos it was raining and she'd get a chill. Its a 5 min walk across the road, she had a coat and an umbrella

On a happier note, DP finally finished wallpapering the nursery today so I'm going to wallpaper it tomorrow and put the blind, curtains and decorations up. Not to mention the gorgeous winnie the pooh cot bedding that I bought off ebay for her. I've decided that I'm going to try to get her to bed around 12 each day for a nap in her cot. (we'll see, haha)

Anyways..... enough rambling. Hope your all ok. XXXX

madmouse · 18/04/2008 17:41

Amani

Lucky, she is a bit young to drink a lot of water. Try not letting her sleep more than 3 hours at a time during the day.

Nathan has just worked out how to roll over tummy to back and now can't stop doing it! 11 weeks and brain damaged, beat that!!!

LuckySalem · 18/04/2008 18:18

Well done NATHAN!! _ Sod the docs, you do what you want pudding!

gingeme · 18/04/2008 19:54

Oh Amani I realy hope lo is on the mend real soon and all the tests come back ok
That was briliant bluebell. Where did you get that from? I was nodding to all of it
mixedmamma my doc said to me Ill probably end up with an op. But osteopath reckons not if I keep using the arch supports. Well see. Good luck with yours.
ds3 poorly again today I don't think his immune system has fully recovered from last week so hes picked up a very sore throat and had a high temp this morning. Didn't eat his dinner but still managed a chocolate mousse. Oh well break out the Calpol again.
Supposed to be going to my nieces birthday party tomm. Well see.
lo has been giving some real lovely giggles today. Had us all smiling. Wasn't even doing anything funny he was just having a good laugh
Well have a lovely weekend whatever your doing. xx

LuckySalem · 18/04/2008 20:07

Gingeme - I hope your DS gets better soon. (choc mousse is always best for illnesses lol)

Girls - Do you ever leave your LO's to scream it out? Aaliyah has found out that screaming brings mum running and now she does it constantly, and sometimes even when I pick her up to comfort her. Am I evil if I was to leave her scream it out sometimes?

AngeChica · 18/04/2008 20:45

Hey Amani vibes to you. As a child I had peristent severe ear infections, my ears are full of scar tissue apparently but I can hear fine.

Lucky according to the books, the "Ferber" method of crying it out can be used after 4 1/2 months? But that is re settling to sleep. I dunno ... if I have something you need to do I leave him but only for a minute or 2 otherwise I feel I must respond to him!

gingeme · 18/04/2008 21:23

LuckySalem yes I do leave George to cry a little longer than I did my other boys I must admit. Mind you he has also learnt that as soon as he cries someone picks him up. Especialy when my big boys were here last week. Ill have to unteach him
