The way everyone described health visitors when I was pregnant made it sound like they would come over a few times, advising (or judging) , looking around the house, checking the health of the baby.
What actually happened is a health visitor -supposedly "my assigned " health visitor came over for about half an hour when the baby was a few days old. We were shattered obviously. She weighed the baby and then went through what each section of the red book was for and then we never heard from her again.
I had a phone call from another lady at 6 weeks a "member of the health visiting team" by this point I was a little less sleep deprived and could manage to put together a list of questions, she was very vague in answering them and just kept directing me to NHS or lullaby trust website (which are good resources don't get me wrong but didn't answer the questions that I had). On the same day I had my check up with the GP and kept getting the phrase "you can always check with your health visitor ".
We also have a health visitor clinic which we can visit but it is absolutely packed. They basically weigh baby and cannot get you out the door quick enough.
I think I am just a bit surprised that this is how it is. I was expecting more regular contact like I had with the midwife during pregnancy.
I don't have any specific concerns at the moment I just see so many posts on here where the answer is "check with your health visitor" and I have to wonder if its supposed to be like this.
