Advice needed please - Rarely sleeps and eats a lot, normal?

Hi all. First time Mum here, so I have question after question.

My 2 week old rarely sleeps, I'll be lucky if she goes an hour before waking up from a nap, then she's wide awake again for hours. She doesn't sleep as much as I expected a newborn to need. She's quite restless the majority of the day.

Also, the midwife told me she'd be expected to need a feed every 3-4 hours, but she seems to take a full bottle feed and then be crying hungry again no more than an hour/hour and a half later.

From other mums experience, is this normal?

If so, when should I expect her to start sleeping for longer periods?

Thanks all!

I would say totally normal. I don’t think I got more than 2 hours sleep per night in the first 9 weeks

I was the first mum in my nct group that had their baby sleep through the night but that might have been because I didn’t put dd to bed until I went to bed and she woke up in the morning around the time I woke up.

She might have been only sleeping for 6 hours by 9 weeks but it was the 6 hours I slept.

3 to 4 hours between a feed is quite old fashioned advice. I'd expect it to be more frequent especially during warmer weather. Milk is both nutrition and hydration after all.

If your baby isn't distressed or crying a lot and doesn't seem to be overtired, then I wouldn't be concerned about the intermittent sleep just yet.
