Welcome March Mums (and late Feb/early April Mums!) from the March 2008 threads.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JFly · 24/05/2008 22:44

F41, I've just requested to join the FB group, so look out for Jenny P. Thanks!

fitnfortyone · 24/05/2008 22:58

ta for posting the link HQ, didn't occur to me it wouldn't show up on a search!
PQ you're in now

Must be something in the air with fractious babies today, I think the "window" of sleep must be true for ours as well. Though today was the first time we've taken him out in the pram and he's stayed awake for nearly the entire walk...slept for the last 5 mins then woke up as soon as we got home!

Dummy doesn't seem to appeal here either, Ed is much more interested in his fingers now and chews on them most of the time - he's found this thumbs but they don't seem to go in his mouth much yet. Crying seems to be much less in the evenings now so maybe the cranial osteopathy worked after all, but we get more crying first thing in the morning Could swear he's teething except his gums don't appear to be red.

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 08:20

only woke up twice last night...am able to see again!

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 08:28

Oh, and we now don't necessariy cry when unhappy...we have "the lip". His bottom lip goes out and trembles..is it wrong to giggle?

merryberry · 25/05/2008 08:35

so pleased for you turtle (the sleep!) hope you get stuck in a virtuous circle now xxxx

HolidaysQueen · 25/05/2008 10:00

turtle - we now have "the lip" too and we also have the "i'm so sad" face where he turns the corners of his mouth down in a frown that is even frownier than the frown i can do! And yes, we laugh at him when he does it

The babies must be protesting at the rubbish bank holiday weather: we had a rubbish night last night as well. DS didn't sleep until 9 and only then on the sofa near us, fed and went down reasonably well at 11, woke at 3.30 for a full feed (so far so reasonably good) and then our night went pear-shaped: went down at 4am, then wanted comfort at 4.30, and at 5, and then a feed at 5.30, and then comfort at 6.30 and then into our bed because we were too tired to get up any longer, and wanted a feed at 8... Sigh. The cherub is asleep in his cot now... At least I'm fortunate in that DH will do the comforting if he doesn't go down well after his night feed. DH is generally better at it then me anyway - baby thinks it's snacktime if i do it.

He was squawking a bit this morning as well which is very unlike him. He doesn't have a temperature but I don't know if he's squawking just because he's tired or squawking because he's hurting somewhere and hence couldn't sleep so is tired IYSWIM. At what point do you decide to try calpol? Does he have to have a temperature for it to be appropriate to try it or is unusual squawking enough?

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 10:34

What is with these babies?! Mine is super-dozy today, I imagine as a result of his marathon no-sleep yesterday. I really want to get out of the house but it's so miserable out and he's sleeping away...can't win.

merryberry · 25/05/2008 10:58

hq, i wouldn't bother dosing unusual squawking. it may just be a new sound that's found? i dose on temperatures, and crying uncontrolled for half a day if there is no sleep inbetween the crying, as i take it that means pain of some sort. i mean, i handle my baby carefully, but he must get aches and strains from being carried, iykwim.

i am so bored i could melt into a wall. poor gg was sick at 3am and 6am and is pale today (assume still the imms reaction). so we've cancelled our travel plans, ds1 and dp have gone to the science museum and muggins here is sat waiting for norks to be called into action. too tired to use nap time constructively. trying to watch brokeback mountain at last, but reduced to admiring heath and jake;s loveliness as they are MUMBLING so much.

e14mum · 25/05/2008 11:09

we have the lip and the "sad face" here too. I always giggle, and have even managed to catch it on camera!

Bedtime for us has been much easier lately, since I've started using a feed-wake-sleep routine during the day. Means she has an evening nap (6-7ish) and then up for a feed, quick bath and cuddle, then back in bed for 8. Night feed at 11, and last night she slept until 6:50am! (night before was 4:50, so not perfect of course!) Was a bit concerned about the late nap at first, but it really seems to work for us. She'll drop it eventually. Last 4 nights or so she only cries for max 10 min (but often less) going down. The book it's from is called Babywise and was recommended by a few friends.

Feeding time is becoming a bit of a struggle here. DD will glug down 2-3oz without wanting a break, and then when I stop to wind her she'll burp but then struggle to take the bottle again. End up walking around the house trying to coax her to take more. But she can easily take 4oz+ on a feed when this doesn't happen so don't really think she's full up. And I can hear her belly rumbling so it must be wind, but I can't get it up. Argh. Am going to take her to the gp to see if there's anything I can give her. Oh, and she spits up a lot too afterwards.

Anyway, the rain has stopped, so maybe we'll actually get outside today!

fnf1, my initials are ER for the facebook group

merryberry · 25/05/2008 11:27

these two cowboys are pants at keeping the love that dare not speak its name under wraps aren't they? not sure if i can be bothered with watching rest.

(apologies to those who've not seen brokeback. )

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 11:36

MB I tried to watch it when it was on the other day...thought that all the fuss was really just about the sex and not the acting...found it a bit dull.

LookingForwardToSummer · 25/05/2008 11:51

turtle - glad you've had some sleep! and jfly my dh doesn't do much baby stuff either! 'my department' apparently. He's done one nappy . he does lots of other stuff so i can't really complain, but i could do with a break sometimes. when i do ask him to do baby things he sighs alot and i end up feeling guilty!

fitnfortyone · 25/05/2008 13:03

SWS and RC now on Fb - no idea who you are but since you're female there's a good chance we know you
E14, haven't seen a request from you?

Had a good night's sleep last night - discovered that ear plugs work! Briefly woke up 6ish when DH went to do the feed, didn't hear him come back but apparently during that hour he fed LO, changed him, got vomited on, winded him and got vomited on some more...hah. Welcome to my world DH.

Fisher Price comes to the rescue again...

Oh, and LO managed to crawl an inch or 2, I'm scared! But very proud

merryberry · 25/05/2008 13:20

wishing fisher price did a toy for grown ups that burped a baby for us. winding them is so tedious.

did someone say many moons ago that they have Athens login? I don't anymore, and would like to get an arch child dis article.

HolidaysQueen · 25/05/2008 20:05

We're in the midst of an almighty screaming routine. DH made the fatal mistake of bounding into the baby's room talking about some nonsense or other just when I'd got baby almost calmed for bed and baby started screaming . Now he has been screaming without a stop for 45 minutes. DH has just taken over and he finally seems to be wearing himself out. I hope. Sigh...

HolidaysQueen · 25/05/2008 20:06

directed towards DH not baby by the way!

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 20:17

I'm preparing myself for the worst. DS had bath at 540, was fed and bed by 615. I put him down, he smiled and stretched and closed his eyes. Hmm... am frantically getting things done and having quick bath as I think I may be busy later...

MarchNowFebMum · 25/05/2008 20:25

Yes, it's shocking that babies haven't evolved to the point of self-burping :.) E14, have you tried gripe water? I do it the middle of faffy gas feed and it usually either a ) brings up a burp or b) settles her stomach enough to take more.

I am SWS on facebook. I friend requested a few of you as well.

Feeling bad about announcing sleeping through the night activity chez moi. Some consolations, however - it is far from consistent, she does not sleep A WINK during the day and she's on the older side I think of our group (14 weeks) given her early arrival. c4it, I am only breastfeeding but last night I felt my supply was a tad low and hence, she woke up for a feed at 2. I've been trying to stretch her out - and she's been doing long sleeps with out any top upa -but she was properly hungry last night so tonight I topped up with 100ml of ebm after noticing my 'milk bar' (as someone referred to it earlier !) was a little dry. We'll see!

We had some prof pics taken of the fam yesterday, hope they turn out well. LO was cooperative but with her serious face rather than the beautiful smiles. We also saw the beginnings of a laugh yesterday (pre-pictures of course). This is an exciting week for us. My aunt, who came when she was born, is back for a week and wants loads of baby time which I will happily give up so I can have some time on my own and do some work. (Am not going back FT until next spring, but have started doing some freelance jobs this month just to keep my foot in the door with two of my clients). Then LO and I go to Canada by ourselves for two weeks - double eek! - followed by a week in Italy for all three of us for a friend's wedding. So if you find my MN prescence a little low in the next few weeks, we are off doing some inter-continental gallavanting.

DH gone, LO sleeping, must go eat chocolate and mess about on ebay!

PS LO also sleeps on one side - glam was it you who said osteopathy can coorect this? I can't get her to change sides.

PPS Signed up for swim lessons in Swiss Cottage July 1 - v. excited, anyone in the area want to join?

BlueDragonfly · 25/05/2008 20:57

saw the FB group and it reminded me i havenlt posted here is aaaaaaaages. i had to name change for RL reasons... if i tell you that my children are mnsters and i am a mum is that enough to remind you who i am!!

turtle23 · 25/05/2008 21:14

MNFM- Am going to bed now. Just saw that had left laptop on. LO woke up at 830 and had a 35 min feed...he hadn't done that for ages. Here's hoping he's realised that night is for sleeping.
BTW- My son laughs like a loon...in his sleep. I've only heard it once in waking hours, but almost every night around 2 I get woken by "Hu..HuHu..Huuuu..Hahahahahahahahahahah gurglegurglehahahahaha." I'm very pleased that he dreams of nice things, but it is a bit odd, no?

JFly · 25/05/2008 21:31

HQ, we have had that hourly snack schedule a few times this week. Great stretch of 5 or 6 hours from 8pm and then a 4am, 5am, 6am, and 7am feed. So I sympathise!

MNFM, I'm jealous of your trip home. I'd love to go to the States, but my family is coming in July, so no point going over the time being. But not so bad waiting, as hopefully by the time I go I will have lost the baby weight and I can buy a new wardrobe.

Turtle, G was up ALL day yesterday, too, and has slept for Britain today. Meant we all got to lie in until 10am! Not complain but wish he'd make up his mind!

Hi there BlueDragonfly - I got your hint. See you 'round the thread....

JFly · 25/05/2008 21:35

Not complaining. Can't spell today.

turtle23 · 26/05/2008 03:13

I CANT TAKE MUCH MORE OF THIS. He woke up at 8, 930, 1130, 130, 230...He also refuses to go to sleep on his back. Gave in and put him on his tummy and flipping him when he goes to sleep, but then he wakes up...I haven't slept at all, am going nuts tring to convince myself to keep breastfeeding, and I am sick and tired of being alone. How do you get them to take a f*ing bottle? he just wont take one from me and I am convinced I am not making enough milk and that's why he wont sleep.

turtle23 · 26/05/2008 08:25

..330,, 530, 630,8. Am very unhappy.
