Hi everyone my baby is 3 weeks old he has suffered from really bad wind and trouble getting wind up since day dot. I've been using infacol and it was a god send in the beginning now 3 weeks in I think it's causing constipation Hes formula fed he's feeding still very good but he's only really pooing once a day and sometimes is going a good 18-22 hours without doing one plenty wet ones tho? Has anyone tried gripe water is that any better? I'm so scared to stop the infacol incase he starts screaming again.

Does he seem uncomfortable due to constipation? Babies can poop several times a day or poop once every 3-4 days, so there is a wide range of normal. It may be normal and not related to medicine, but might be best to check with your Dr. I have no experience with gripe water to share.

Congratulations on your new baby

Hi yeah he's straining a lot and going really red in the face and just genuinely Uncomfortable and fussy when normally he's so content and happy

Is the poo hard when it comes? Once a day doesn't sound like constipation unless it's dry and hard. They can put a lot of effort into going to the toilet at that age but it doesn't mean they have constipation.

No it was soft when it comes but ever since he was born it was at least 1 or 2 a day and now absolutely nothing for over 48 hours only taking 1oz bottle instead of his normal 2 and just being genuinely uncomfortable.

We had bad gas issues at that age and used Infacol. We found it made her reflux worse, so switched to Gripe Water and had less issues. I’m sure you have been told this already, but with a lot of these things, they just need time to mature and sort themselves out. My DD is now 16 weeks and I cannot remember the last time we needed to use it. She still doesn’t poo every day, but it’s now most days which is better than every four days. Apparently some babies poop several times a day, some only twice a week. If the consistency is good, both can be normal!

We tried Infacol (and Dentinox) but in the end those both seemed to either not work or make him worse. We switched to gripe water and that seemed to be the only thing that helped.
