Hi CD, x post!

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2008 07:53

Morning MJ

mammyjo · 10/02/2008 07:54

Maveta, glad you got the car seat sorted. I know they are expensive, but at least you dont need to worry about it now.

mammyjo · 10/02/2008 07:56

CD, I feel for you being woken by the screaming. Ds used to do that when he was smaller and it used to drive me insane. In the end I got with him and told him if he was awake then to come and find me, not just sit there screaming. Its horrible to be woken by that noise every day.

Maveta · 10/02/2008 08:10

morning cd and mammyjo!

Quick rant: HOW annoying is it that other people feel the need to comment on your parenting choices? It is driving me batty. I know everyone knows it happens but I swear I do not do it to other people (ok maybe on MN but that´s because it´s MN! ) and I don´t understand why they do it to me.

Not saying I don´t disagree with other people´s decisions but I really consciously bite my tongue and swallow it down and make myself say something supportive or neutral. Because I know how horrible it is.

So where does this come from? Yesterday at MILs, BIL (AGAIN) told me I should be retracting ds´ foreskin (this is something they still advise here which I am ignoring) when he´s in the bath. I just pretended I didn´t hear him. Then dh´s cousin chimed in aswell and BIL kept on and on. I ended up saying, very tersely "why don´t you worry about your children and I´ll worry about mine" to which he said "of course I worry about yours" (oh go polish your bloody halo then! )

I always look like some kind of freaky foreigner who does everything different just for the sake of it, iykwim. And dh never says anything.

mammyjo · 10/02/2008 09:07

I guess your dh just feels caught in the middle. I know that you dont actually live that far away from the UK, but their parenting values differ quite a lot from ours dont they (from what I have seen at least). I think the spanish are more family orientated than the British in as much as they are all involved in everyone elses children's lives IYKWIM. By that I mean the wider family (grandparents, aunts etc). I think they then see it as their right to intervene when they think something is not the way they would do it. Nothing wrong with your decision about the foreskin, not something that is advocated over here and I have never touched ds's!

Sorry that is rambly, but I hope you get the gist of what I am on about!

mammyjo · 10/02/2008 09:16

And I too would not comment on other peoples parenting choices!

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2008 09:20

Same problems here, Mav - people wittering on about the way I do certain things and DH just sits there silently, looking uncomfortable while I fight my corner! Just ignore, ignore, ignore - if you are happy and understand the reasoning behind why you are doing what you are doing, then just smile poiltely, bite your tongue (as much as poss ) and ignore, ignore, ignore

OR

Say something really shocking like: "Where I come from we don't retract their foreskin because we are ripeing it for the time, when they are 8 years old, when we take them to the village elder and he bites it off without anthesthetic."

.... but that is probably because I am weird and twisted!

Sexonlegs · 10/02/2008 09:24

Morning all!

Thanks for the comments about Katie

Dippy, hope you are feeling better. Pita re the older dd's waking up. B always wakes up before K and in the night on occasion. So annoying.

Maveta, I really feel for you regarding the "helpful" comments. No suggestions really, but hope you are ok.

So Ange, did dh enjoy your new undies??

Morning MJ. Hope you and F are ok.

How was your night SPB?

POTC, how was your night out?

We are off to the beach today - beautiful day here.

Hope everyone is ok. See you later.

mammyjo · 10/02/2008 09:40

Its a gorgeous day here too. Really sunny and bright Going to see my parents later as they are back from a 2 week cruise around the caribbean . Although, from the sound of it I dont think my mum enjoyed herself too much as she spent most of the two weeks poorly, first with a cold and then with diarrhoea Oh well, at least they are home safely

Sexonlegs · 10/02/2008 10:53

Oh your poor mum MJ! Hope you have a lovely day.

Ikwym re constant virally thing - I cannot remember the last time K didn't have a cough or runny nose!

runnyhabbit · 10/02/2008 10:58

Morning all

Had a quite a nice day yesterday, (considering the lack of sleep) Boys in bed asleep by 8pm, and me and dh were asleep by 10.30. We didn't wake up til 8, and then we had to wake the boys up (usually its the other way round)
Everyone seems in a good mood iykwim, and W appetite has come back properly - and he's bf again!!!

Fil is coming down some time today to plumb the bath in (not sure what state he'll be in though - was out celebrating Wales win in the rugby)

Weather is fab today

Have a great day all
x

runnyhabbit · 10/02/2008 11:18

sol lovely pics of K
maveta tbh, I never seem to get comments like that (although dh says that his family would never say anything because they're too scared of my reply) I don't comment on other peoples parenting styles either. The way I see it, unless I'm asked for an opinion, it doesn't involve me.
dippy did you try swapping the girls bedroom around? J has stopped waking in the night since they've started sharing. And why is everything so muc worse in the dark
mj your poor mum at least she's come home to nice weather. Is E on half term this week? Perhaps we could do something this week?

Sorry if I missed anyone
x

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2008 12:50

Yes, we've been trying to encourage DD2 to share with DD3 and to allow DD1 to have a room of her own as it is DD1 who does the early rising, waking DD2 up! Unfortunately, the older 2 seem to want to share and are pretty vocal about it, so not sure

Your poor mum, MJ Hope you enjoy seeing them later. Not sure what we'll be up to - gloriously sunny here too

Maveta · 10/02/2008 17:17

lol at cd´s suggestion

SOL hope you had a nice day at the beach, sounds like the weather was lovely indeed! You too cd, hope you got out and enjoyed!

Mammyjo - your poor mum! what bad luck.

Runny - how did the (possibly) hungover plumbing work go? lol

Been a nice relaxed day here, dh and I even went for a quick 20min jog which is the first time we´ve made it out in months but I feel very energised now so hopefully we´re turning over a new leaf.

I guess it must have been a lovely day everywhere judging by how quiet it is in here!

CaptainDippy · 10/02/2008 18:08

Maveta

We've had a nice time - been to visit the village where I am going to buy a house when I have a gazillion pounds, played on the play park, ate some cake and when to see the fields full of Llamas and Alapacas; and a random Camel on the way home! Just popping the girls into the bath and than bed - bliss!

cazboldy · 10/02/2008 18:53

Hi All

Ange (i think it was you who asked!) had a bit of a breakthrough......I got fed up and decided it was a make or break situation and so I rang up the farmer and calmly and politely explained the situation. He seems a really nice guy, and even apologised for all the upset!
Anyway the upshot of it is that he has offered to rent us the larger house that I mentioned to you all as a possibility......as long as we are prepared to take a bit of a pay cut. Dh reluctant at first, but I have looked into it and am pretty confidant we would only be about £50 a month worse off as the rest would be made up in tax credits. I have to take the details of the house to him tomorrow and we will see where it goes from there - fingers crossed that some other person hasn't already said that they want to rent it!!

It isn't ideal, but is a good compromise. it has 1 extra bedroom, and also a study that I have visions of turning into a playroom so things a little more positive.

Am so glad the farmer agreed with me though....it was a bit of a risk as he may have just turned round and said no, or decided dh was not worth that much bother - dh would have been furious! just hope my luck holds!

haven't completely caught up, but got the general gist of it all and most of you put my boobs to shame! I am a 36 E and I thought that was huge!!!

oooggs · 10/02/2008 19:17

lovely weather here too, been to the beach & nature park, had a picnic & an ice cream

no sick today [fingers crossed]

great news caz

my job is very interesting especially if you are nosey but it all depends on who you are working with so when I go back we will see as I am moving teams - much to my disgust

PillockOfTheCommunity · 10/02/2008 19:46

Have read everything but retained nothing

Have had really nice weekend. Fri we had our night time visit to the sea and then I got telephonically (?) drunk with my friend! Sat went to soft play and then the park with same friend and her dds which was really nice. Her dd1 is 10 wks older than Maia and when they were little we used to practically live at each other'd houses. Over last few years she has moved and both of our lives hav got more busy so we dont see that much of them but when we do M and L seem just as close as they ever were
Then last night dp and I went out and did the mystery shopping assignment I couldnt do when Ellie was here and drank several too many vodka red bulls!! My mum came and sat with dc so we had to be home by half 11 But we ahem had some fun and then watched half a dvd before dp started to fall asleep so I dragged him up to bed at half 2.Knackered today though!

And then today we went out for a lovely long walk round the woods at King Alfred's tower, had a picnic and got covered in mud!! Weather this weekend has felt like spring!

Think thast enough waffling now!

weeonion · 10/02/2008 20:31

pesh - that sounds liek a lovely weekend. D still doing ok with food / milk?

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2008 20:47

hi everyone
caz - great news! Hope it all works out. My finger slipped on the keyboard and I congratulated you on your "great newts"
the mind boggles
I have a drink related injury
Dippy, your day sounds lovely. We meant to go for a walk in te sun, but didn't make it, rugby was on and then PILs popped in and made a fuss of T!
SOL, thanks for asking about the night but you'll wish you hadn't...not good...fidget bum is back!

StealthPolarBear · 10/02/2008 20:48

ooh do you have loads of experience with flexible working applications? Can I send you my (fairly short) one? Feel free to say no, I won't mind at all!

Pesha · 10/02/2008 20:49

He's doing fine thanks WO Sleep been abit messed up this weekend. Yesterday he didnt slep at all till 4 when we were driving home cos he was having too much fun to want to sleep! And today he slept briefly in car on way to tower so only about half an hour and then fell asleep in highchair at 6 eating his tea so has gone to bed fully dressed and covered in crumbs Didnt want to risk waking him and then him not going back to sleep til late as has happened in the past! Sleep seems to affect how he much he feeds. If hes tired he'll have a good long bf, if hes wide awake he gets bored so only has the first rush of milk iyswim and loses interest so I need him to be tired for his afternoon feed!

Hows things with you? Did you hear about your appeal? (Sorry if you did and you've said and I missed it)

Pesha · 10/02/2008 20:51

Sorry spb x posts.

Please explain the drink related injury?!
