I think people can recommend a sling/carrier but it won't necessarily suit you, do you have a sling library near you? They can help you go through the options and see what suits you best.

I love a manduca, can pick them up on marketplace for under £20. I still carry my 2.5 year old almost daily in it.

a close caboo is good for the first 6 months. Both of these carriers offer good support for you and baby.

however If you have a sling library nearby I would go and try some out as everyone finds different carriers comfortable.

Be aware of anything with a very narrow base- it doesn’t support baby’s hips and backs correctly and can often make wearing them more uncomfortable for you as they get heavier.

other brands like Lenny Lamb, Sleepy Nico, Connecta will all last a long time but check lower weight limits for these.

Never heard of a sling library, so don't think there would be one near me

Stretchy wrap for the first few months, then you really need to try different types to see what suits as they get older. All kids are different - all 3 of mine have preferred different slings

@19annie86 Where abouts are you and we may be able to point you in the direction of your nearest one?

Does this help?

I loved Close Caboo for the early months, so easy to use. And then Ergo 360 when we needed something more structured. Fit both me and my massive DH well and DD was happy in it.

Invest in something supportive with good waist and shoulder straps that are all adjustable to minimise the likelihood of back problems and maximise the time you'll be able to use it for. We've got the Ergobaby Omni 360 - I love it and have used it since she was 2 days old. Still using daily at 9 months with no issues.

Get in contact with your local sure start program and/ or women's centre.
They can point you in the right direction re sling library.
I know for a fact there is a sling library in Lisburn area, Belfast and Coleraine area.
Im up in the NW and the sure start program works along side an eco group who do slings, reusable nappies etc.
The sure start program is amazing you can get involved in loads of mum n baby groups and get lots of support as your baby grows up.

I have a lillybaby complete. I chose it based on the review of a youtuber kayla buell and I have not regretted it. The back support is amazing. Really adaptable for your baby's age too.

We were passed down the Stoker My carrier and it's been fab!!

flowergirl2020 · 27/06/2022 17:29

We used a free rider sling when he was a newborn. Great for baby wearing around the house to get jobs done etc
Now he's older after trying out a few at a local sling library (we tried a Kahu carrier and a Tula explore) we ended up buying a Tula free to grow. Can't wear facing outwards with the free to grow but we liked the adjustable fit with their being a big size difference between me and my husband.

Hi there,

My DD is nearly 8 months old. Before she arrived we used to do a lot of walking, we've been on plenty of pram walks with her but now she's getting older we would like to invest in a carrier so we can go on more adventurous walks.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any recommendations, will mainly be myself carrying her and I'm quite a small build but tall. I've seen some that have a rain cover/sunshade and also storage at the bottom.

They are quite a lot of money so anyone who's used one would be good to hear from you. Thanks x
