Hi all,

I have recently started to express and was wondering if anyone knew the following:

  • Milk stored in the fridge:
  1. Can you mix milk expressed from different days and put in the same container?
  2. Can you initially store milk in the fridge but move this to the freezer if it is not used?

Storing milk in the freezer:

  1. Can you defrost and mix milk frozen on different days?
  2. How do people store their milk in the freezer? I’ve been thinking of using an ice cube tray so I can store little and often?

Any other expressing tips would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks all 😊

I use milk bags to store in the freezer because they can be laid very flat.
I mix in the fridge but go by the date of the oldest milk

You can initially put it in the fridge and then freeze. I had to do this when expressing at work. As with normal food it's best to freeze as soon as you can. NHS say 8 days in fridge, check your fridge is 5 degrees or below and avoid keeping it in the door.

Can't see any reason not to mix different dates but I did try and give milk pumped in the morning in the morning, milk pumped at night at night etc... where possible!

I second milk bags, really easy to use and store.
