Thought I'd start this thread now as I think there's already a couple of people to go on it, and I know there'll be an awful lot more!!

Will update when I get a chance

Morning ladies. Sorry lolo but you never getover being excited about those sort of things once your a Mum. It goes from nappies and burping to sitting up to smiles to crawling to teeth and so on. Enjoy it it all passe too quick.
Hadanother bad night as far as winding goes. Even the gripe water lost its magical power. Mind you George slept from 6am to 9.30 am so I got a bit of sleep then.
Not much planned today.
Lady coming from Freecycle to pick up our old curtains soon.
Have good day all xx

mixedmama · 08/03/2008 14:34

As usual no time to really catch up properly, but have read almost everything.

Everything seems to be going well for everyone and also our end. Ediz is finally putting weight on nicely and spoke to a bf lady yesterday who thinks I might be able to re-establish bf andthe good thing is that he is still interested in the breast, altho we wont get back to 100%. last night he went from 10 - 6 so very pleased but then DS1 wakes up at 6.15 and not so pleased with that.

Talking of contraception I had the coil fitted last week and had my smear at the same time and was really stressing as frankly I had enough of people poking around, but since i needed the smear anyway thought i may as well go for the coil as i am rubbish at remembering to take the pill. I think the mirena is the one with the hormones isnt it but i picked the other one as I wanted to make sure i see a period every month as otherwise i will just stress that i might be preg every month.

Anyway must fly, but good to see everyone is doing ok.... looking forward to meet up.

madmouse · 08/03/2008 16:03

Mamachris are you sure it is a period? My lochia came and went a few times. It stopped then returned when my lo came out of hospital and started demand feeding, then stopped and started again when started walking in earnest with the pushchair.

lilyloo · 08/03/2008 16:54

Afternoon all just had quick catch up thanks for info on contraception will look them up.
Seems we all having the same problems still having some rough nights here but think we all in the same boat!
Hope you all have nice weekend we doing Sunday lunch for all my family tom so will be busy, hoping dp will do most of it

lilyloo · 08/03/2008 16:56

mama i had some bleeding last week after lochia stopped couple weeks ago. Not sure if it was period but lightish and lasted 3 days, i still exc bf so am hoping not as i never had one with other 2 dc's whilst i bf.

lilyloo · 08/03/2008 17:08

Fluffy just noted your post r/e the red patch ds had one on the back of his neck on nape of hair line. It used to get redder when he cried. It has faded away over time and we never used anything on it not sure what it was.

Betterhalf are they not just milk spots dd had had them from 3 weeks and they just clearing now but left her skin very dry, hv said just use vaseline.

Amani have you tried stripping lo off and doing some massage on her back when she on her tummy , you can just use vegetable oil mixed with lavender or camomile if you have some, dd really likes being on her tummy when i do this.

betterhalf · 08/03/2008 17:19

lilyloo, did you use the vaseline while your LO had the spots or once they cleared up or both? And what do milk spots look like?

Naetha · 08/03/2008 19:53

Evening all

Been quite an exciting week all in all - been to three mother and baby groups (local NHS one, NCT post natal group and mothers' walking group) and they've all been lovely. It's been great to get out of the house and have some intelligent adult conversation as well as having walked about eight miles. Having said that, I think three was a bit much, and might just stick to two most weeks.

Ben has been really irritable every evening this week - I don't know if it's because of his jabs or what, but he's been crying much more, and often for no apparent reason. Thankfully his appetite is back after a bit of a dip earlier in the week (I guess because of jabs or having his tongue tie snipped - must have been a bit sore) and is making up for it - he's just taken 6 and a half oz before going down to sleep tonight. We're really trying to get him settled in a routine, and to be fair I think it's working. He sleeps from 7pm to 7am with feeds at roughly 11, 3 and 7. Quite often he'll go back to sleep after 7am either on my chest or in our bed so I can get a bit of a lie in! Last night was the only night he slept perfectly, hardly even waking for his night time feeds. He practically slept through having his nappy changed at 3am as well! I've probably jinxed it now and he'll be awake all night!

Btw Ben has had milk spots, infant acne, heat rash, milia, you name it and they've all cleared up with no creams or anything - just cotton wool and water twice a day

The only thing I've used any creams on has been quite bad eczema on his eyebrows that cleared up straight away after I put some eumovate on them.

Right, off to watch a film - hugs to all

mum2samandalex · 08/03/2008 19:54

hiya all how is everyone doing time seems to be passing by all too quickly. I passed a preganat women today and all of a sudden i began to feel broody and started to miss being pregnant. The weirdest thing is i absolutlely hated being pregnant both times and didnt stop moaning. Did anyone watch 'Dawn gets a baby' that made me cry too as i missed giving birth i think i regret being so out of it on gas and air and not being able to take it all in. Anyone else feel like this?

katyt1 · 08/03/2008 20:30

mum2S&A - tbh i still have sad thoughts about henry's birth (c-s), i try not to go on about it to dh cos not sure he gets it. hopefully i get to do it again and not have a c-s so i can put this one behind me - can't think of any better way still thinking about the hospital birth discussion thingie too.
even tho i was prob 'out of it' on g&a the first time, i still have pretty good memories of it, weird i know!

henry has all the spots/rashes too, trying to ignore it mostly as the hv said time would cure it. cotton wool and water, aqueous cream, magic cream, etc. nothing really works. heat makes it worse i know that. may try vaseline next.

our night time routine is settling down too, not as good as ben's tho! normally in cot by 7.30, and up for 3 or 4 feeds, then up about 6/7ish. ds1 is normally up just after 6. we are in london for a few days tho and it's messing things up a bit as henry sharing our room again. can't wait to get home so he can go back to his own room!

madmouse - hope test results come back ok. any more signs of nathan looking at you?

henry is still a champion poo-er, and seems to be able to wriggle his way almost right out of his nappy at night, so the last 2 mornings have been poo-tastic full clothes changes! wish he would listen to some of your babies and poo less often!

my dh just asked what i was doing, so he says hello and says this parenthood lark is a piece of p*ss...as he's been out to get a curry (& missed ds1 getting out of bed to complain he couldn't find his blankie & didn't have to feed ds2 to sleep & managed a 45min kip this afternoon, etc...)

why is it when i'm the one getting up at night and feeling drained with henry's current high feeding demand (6wk growth spurt i hope!) that he is the one who gets a daytime nap???? grr

susiemj · 09/03/2008 08:58

Morning everyone

Sabela is still 'I want to play' champion of the year, and yes, still the only toy to be played with is mummy's and daddy's faces! I went up to a friend's for lunch and there were some others round and she was so excited she refused to sleep. Poor thing was so tired and fighting it but would only stop crying if facing out to everyone.

She's also 'talking'. If we're talking she'll respond if there's a gap in the conversation, or meep away until the conversation stops. dh had a friend round yesterday and Sabela insisted on 'joining in' and squawking if we ignored her little meeps! I cannot believe I am writing this about a 2-month old. I had no idea! Then when I was talking to my dad in the phone she meeped all the way through that too. (she does it clearly in response to our speech). she even did it down the telephone and had an 'ah' 'meep' conversation with MIL. She's going to be a party girl I think!

Just makes me think how hard it must be with two - or three! Nuff respect to you multi-mummies!

naetha - sabela was like that after her jabs on and off for about a week. she's turned back into 'good' baby now, so don't never fear! p.s. glad you like the pump - it's so ace after a hand pump, isn't it?

Sabela seems to be on the same kind of sleeping shifts as others. Can't wait till she reaches 5k and maybe goes a bit longer - although dh let me go for 6 hours last night (rugby repeats to watch!) but I woke up after 4 hours with boobs SO sore I couldn't sleep. Guess what? sabela woke at exactly the same time! spooky....

blimey - sorry for marathon (bt I haven't been on much lately forgive me )

gingeme · 09/03/2008 10:48

Lovely isn't it susie . George natters all the time. The cutest thing he does is when he sneezes if he doesnt quite sneeze hell make a little 'coo' noise with his lips pursed.
Had an excelent night last night. He had a bottle at 8pm burped briliantly. Slept till 2 another bottle and Daddy burped him as he had just got in from work. Then slept till 7.15 am. Wow I feel almost human today.
We are going to the London Transport museum later. Good job I did sleep well I think it will be a busy afternoon.
Have a good day all. xx

AngeChica · 09/03/2008 11:13

Hi. I am all of a sudden starting to feel more human too. Yesterday I got in my little car for the first time in over 6 weeks, put the stereo on loud and went to Asda on my own . I bought some horrible £3 sweatshop-made jeans as in denial about post CS tum .

Yes I still feel funny about my CS katy and the prospect of no other option for no2. I am supposed to be getting a debrief at the hospital, are you?

I don't miss being PG at all... cleared out my handbag before going shopping yesterday and found a mountain of Gaviscon tablets in there - no longer needed ...

Last night DS slept in his cot in the next room for the first time and only woke up for 1 night feed as he has done the last few nights. He is a sleepyhead in the mornings and has 2 big naps. Just the last few days have managed to get him off me for these naps and into cot - so I have a little "me" time, and time to wash and tidy etc. We haven't really cracked evenings yet but hey, one step at a time. Also my gripe water regime with him is definitely making him happier! I'm sure it soothes his tum really well after feeds.

Baby Whisperer arrived and a lot of it really resonates and reassured me.

MamaChris · 09/03/2008 11:50

mum2s&a - I share your thoughts re gas & air. I hadn't realised it would mean there are parts I can't really remember, and I really regret now using it so much. mw took it away for last 50 mins pushing, and that's the best part of my labour, but I wished she'd done it before. daniel was so poorly when born, and I can't stop thinking that if I'd used less and pushed more effectively (I had 2.5 hours pushing) he might've been spared intensive care. almost immediately I was wishing I could go back and do it all again - just to do it "right". Although I keep reminding myself it's too early yet to try for no. 2 I think it's maybe the only way I will ever resolve this.

katyt - my poor dp is fed up hearing my sad thoughts about the birth, tho I know I'm very lucky to have managed to have the homebirth I wanted and not to have a c-s. I've been going to lots of bf groups, and I find talking about it to other mums with similar thoughts is good - helpful to know so many share these emotions.

katyt1 · 09/03/2008 15:04

quick one:

tongue tie question on this thread, sure the mum would love to hear from those of you on here who've been going through it.

nicky6 · 09/03/2008 18:22

thanks katy added a little message on the other thread.
well all ok here - chalrie at 6 weeks seems to be sleeping a little longer and we have had a couple of 5 hour stints in the night which is great.

Today we have taken the cot out of our room and put it in the nursery so her first night in her own room bit scary but think best for all.

Infection cleared up but where i had the episiotomy the sticthes still seem quite tight and if i go for a long (30-60 min) walk then very achey also if i sit in certain psition can be abit uncomfortable - anyone else got anything like this charlie is 6 weeks. some of my friends say i am being too impatient. what do people think

gingeme thrush is in mouth probably from all the antibiotics i had to take

MamaChris · 09/03/2008 18:54

katyt - have replied to other thread. it's awful how many people have to wait so long with painful bf to access such a simple procedure!

madmouse · 09/03/2008 19:31

Nicky, not sure you are being impatient. I had an episio and I was cycling again two weeks later. I know that was extreme and I have just been very lucky (and of course I was forced to be on my legs from day one with Nathan being in scbu - mobility does help and I basically forgot that I had only given birth the day before, until the Intensive Care staff kept insisting I sat down at the incubator) but six weeks seems quite long (at least it must feel really long).

lilyloo · 09/03/2008 20:41

betterhalf i used it whilst she had spots and now afterwards. Just to keep her skin moisturised as it has become really dry. The spots were small red pimples on her face, ears and neck.

Naetha Ben sounds like he is doing really well , on a good night Martha doing pretty much the same down at 7 feeds at 11 , 3 and 6 so dp getting up with her then as she is wide awake at 6.

Mum2sanda i think no matter what birth you have if it didn't go to plan you probably have regrets. I that i wanted a water birth with all 3 and never got one. Am hoping my friend due next week will get to use my pool that i bought.

Katy know what you mean dp came home for sleep last week from work as it was all catching up with him doing the early mornings

Susie lol at Sabela already holding a yelephone conversation

Gingeme hope you had a good day out and at your night with George, it's amazing how different you feel with sleep.

Ange glad you sounding better. Well done on the one night feed. Bet you will feel better now you can get out and about in the car now too. Def useful when lo becomes unsettled i often go out for drive when Martha gets overtired works a treat.

Agree mamachris it helps to know we all have regrets r/e birth but also shows how futile birth plans can be i suppose.

Nicky maybe see how it goes for next two weeks as you will see gp then for your 8 week check, although can see what h/v says in the mean time.Hope tonight goes ok for Charlie in her own room.

Madmouse hope Nathan doing ok !

Well family all gone home now thank goodness. Does anyone find lo's more unsettled when you have lot's of people round or go somewhere with lot's of people. Martha been really unsettled nearly all day until every one left then happily had big feed and went straight to sleep at 7!

MamaMaiasaura · 10/03/2008 13:29

havent been around for a while. baby been fretful since wednesday tho no temperature. 10 weeks old now and wonder if teeth bothering him as dribbley and can see the white outline of them on the bottom clearly.

Still bf but have very painful right breast when he is feeding, pretty sure latch is ok and wonder if he is sucking stronger. Also he has been feeding alot again, thougnh we had some kind of routine done as managed to get him down for a nap on thursday in his nursery.

Despite him being fretful more i have been getting lots of smiles, cooing, noises, chuckles and on saturday he rolled from front to back! He is also pushing himself round, in bed he pushes himself closer to me

He is also pooing only twice a week by the looks of it. Massive ones though.

madmouse · 10/03/2008 14:34

Awen nice to see you, ten weeks already, but then you were the trailblazer. Can't believe you have moved on to teething now! It goes so quickly.

I am shocked at the speed of Nathan's developments, both in terms of growing and also changes in his behaviour, becoming more alert, laughing, wanting to play jokes while feeding.

gingeme · 10/03/2008 15:19

Hi Awen. Glad to hear things are well. Took ds5 for his first lot of jabs today. He realy cried more than my other ds's. Mind you as soon as he had his bottle he was fine. I fed him in the docs which was nearly empty and when he did his burp 3 people, including a doctor, all said 'good boy' it was well funny...

nicky6 · 10/03/2008 15:28

well charlie 6.5 weeks and spent first night in her own room. she is still really windy/colicky between 6-10 but then went down in her room and slept til 3 and then 6 then 9.30 so not too bad.

very fretful today asleep in my arms which i try not to do generally but sometimes you just have to.

hope everyone ok

Amani · 10/03/2008 15:31

hello everyone

Not been on for a while - but thanks to your responses to my query. DD seems to come out in quite bad dry skin and is itching her face lots, leaving flakey skin behind and been applying lots og Oilatum to soothe it. Bit worried as my DH had severe ezcema when he was a child and DD1 had ezcema aswell for the first year and it was had work with the creams, watching what she ate, finding suitable clothing etc (cleared up fully now thank goodness). Anyway am hoping this will go quickly.

Anyway how is everyone? Defo feeling human too, been trying to meet up with different friends at least once a week to remind myself there is a world out there!

Anyone had bad winds in their area (and am not talking about what comes out of you LO rear end!) . Woke up at 3.30am as it was gorwling otside.

Fragolina · 10/03/2008 17:18

Hi everyone! Great to hear a few of us a re getting a bit more sleep and starting to feel more human.

Nicky - I also have issues with my episiotomy - one small part is still completely unhealed 8 weeks on, and last night it started bleeding slightly...and it was NOT lochia . Have my gyn appointment next week, so hopefully will get sorted. My GP said the stitches should usually heal in about 3-6 weeks.

Amani - my lo has been madly scratching the dry skin on her face, and so has permanently got scratch mitts or socks on her little hands. I left her hands loose for a few minutes the other day to get her clean mitts from the dryer, and came back to find a long red scratch on her face decorated with a few tiny beads of blood, with her yowling her head off! . The mitts definitely help.

Is it just me or is anyone else appalled at the state of their post-preg body. Maybe I was a bit naive, but the wrinkly saggy tummy was a real shocker!!! I quite liked the taut round preg belly, and didn't really think about what would happen to it after the baby came out - supposed it would magically go back to what it was.

And as for the myth that you lose loads of weigh bfing - that is so not happening for me - I'm just starving most of the time, even more than when I was pregnant . Can't wait till I can fit into my pre-preg clothes!

I too woke up from the howling winds last night, there was so much noise going on outside. DH slept through it all, lucky thing!

I have found a truly marvellous way of feeling like you've had a nap when you haven't. I slather laods of moisturiser on my face, and somehow its really refreshing.
