Thought I'd start this thread now as I think there's already a couple of people to go on it, and I know there'll be an awful lot more!!

Will update when I get a chance

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fruitfulinotherways · 27/02/2008 15:51

Gingeme, take Sudafed, or Nurofen Cold&Flu - you want pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Dries up bodily fluids! Doesn't reduce milk in everyone but does for lots of women so worth a try.

gingeme · 27/02/2008 15:53

Ah thankyou fruitful will try that. Cant today as Ive already taken parrots as they are known in our house

fruitfulinotherways · 27/02/2008 17:30

Paracetamol? Cos you can have full dose of paracetamol and full dose of nurofen.

MoominMum · 27/02/2008 20:09

Thanks all - wish I'd thought to ask the HV as we were there yesterday, but tbh i was just desperate to get him home after his injections. Was really surprised to find out that there may be a problem if his hernia op is now scheduled in the next two weeks as general anaesthetic has been considered a risk - makes sense when you think about it - but HV says the guidelines are due to change shortly to say it's not a problem. She says in the meantime it will depend on how comfortable the individual anaesthetist feels about the risk - but I'm not too sure I'm comfortable with the risk! He does have a heart murmur after all - we've been happy with the advice to treat him normally and robustly and certainly don't want to be precious about it, but can it really be a good idea to shut his immune system down whilst he still has these vaccines in his system? Especially since at 8 wks he's still only around 9 lbs (good weight gain, but started unexpectedly tiny at term). I get the feeling no-one wants to take the responsibility of advising us so we'll have to make any decision to postpone ourselves if it comes to it - but really want to get the hernia sorted too...
Sorry to be needy but does anyone have any info to put the risk into some perspective for us - I mean, given the risk of Hosp Acq Inf, which we'll have to just accept, am I being stupid to worry about this?

Gingeme - might the chilled cabbage leaf trick help? Certainly soothed me when I was badly engorged - but stank to high heavens!!

AngeChica · 27/02/2008 20:30

ventured to baby clinic today and DS has gained another 8 oz in 8 days. he is 4 weeks and 1 day and now weighs 11lb 12. Those 8 days without any formula top ups as well! I should feel proud but just feel exhausted... HV coming to see me privately tomorrow as the baby blues don't seem to have gone away. Every time DS cries I get upset even if it is just a little grizzle. Daft really.

fruitfulinotherways · 27/02/2008 21:37

Moominmum - start a special thread. Someone on here will know!

Angechica - you're not daft. You might just be completely exhausted (I cry all the time when sleep-deprived!) or it might be something they can actually help with, but anyway, you're not daft!

gingeme · 27/02/2008 21:42

Angechica I know how you feel. I spent most of Monday crying I mean realy sobbing. ds3 kept asking 'whats wrong Mummy?' which made me cry even more. Baby blues can get worse by about 6 weeks when most babys have their first growth spurts and are more demanding.
The gp asked me three main questions, Do you cry at any time at anything?der.
Do you feel love for your baby?
Can you laugh at things you normaly find funny?
If you can answer yes to atleast one of these your ok. hth.
Guess mine was guilt about switching to formula. Feel fine about it now I know George is ok with it.
Hope your ok

MoominMum · 27/02/2008 22:54

cheers Fruitful - good idea!

susiemj · 28/02/2008 07:55

Just popping in to share a tip for restless babies. In the last few dats, if Sabela has been in one of those too sleepy/ wriggling/ restless moods when put down to sleep, I've just put my hand under her neck for 5 mins and she's gone off to sleep.

Don't know where I got the idea - hope it wasn't here - but it's been working so I thought I'd share it.

(Waves good morning to everyone and dives back to bed!)

AngeChica · 28/02/2008 09:32

hi guys. got one thing to say about my Moby sling and that is FANDABIDOZEE (!?). This morning I have been able to get washed, brush my teeth and wash the dishes, he is tucked up in there, stopped crying and went to sleep! we'll see how we do later in the day when he has his gripey times but it is great so far - i can wander around & rock him and sing, with TWO FREE HANDS! hence can also surf mumsnet!

NB have to disngage him in the upright hold for feeding though, and think he might get too hot so will try in just his vest next time.

re crying thanks that is v helpful. I do think a lot of it is just tiredness - I have never been very good if I don't get enough shuteye. I do laugh at DS's farts and his funny faces

gingeme · 28/02/2008 10:59

Sounds good Angechica . Yes slings are fab for when lo is having a particularly gripey day. They look so cute all tucked up in there dont they?
Had a brill night last night. George had 5oz at 8.30pm went to sleep at 9 till 2.30am had another 5oz and lots of burps slept form 3.30 till 6.30 hes liking this formula......

MamaMaiasaura · 28/02/2008 11:53

Had hosp on Tuesday and need repair work (a bridge??) have opted to have local rather than gen anthesteatic (sp) as want it over and odne with quickly. Not got date yet but will be soon. Dreading it.

Samuel had imms yesterday, he was very fretful a few hours after. Seems ok today, legs look sore. He had reasonable night, only waking at 10.30 and 4am and then 7.30. No poo for a couple of days - trying not to worry as i think bf can go a few days. Taking him to clinic to be weighed for reassurance.

Not caught up on thread at all. DOnt seem to get hardly anytime to get on here atm.

Might be getting a new house and pxing ours rather than trying to sell it.

lilyloo · 28/02/2008 12:18

Gingeme George sounds very happy

Ange hope hv apt goes ok hopefully it just the sleep deprivation ! Maybe new sling might help too at least give you some feeling of freedom. My ds was a very clingy baby and it is sooo much harder.

Moomin sorry no advice but hope you got some on other thread!

Fruitful hope your ok

We had another good night with Martha staying in her own cot until 4 this morning from 7 last night, hopefully she will be in it all the way through the night soon, i need my bed back ! Hope everyone else ok.

fluffyneedssomesleep · 28/02/2008 15:11

Hi all,

Awen - I'm waiting for my appt at the 'birth trauma clinic' (yikes!) to find out whether I'm going to need repair work...must admit to being quite scared and totally with you on getting it over and done with as fast as possible. Good luck and big (((hugs)))

Gingeme - glad formula is working ..enjoy the sleep!

Ange - it does get better, and the tears are totally normal - as you say, being sleep deprived never helps anything!

Lilyloo- enjoy the massage - I've been doing it at home with dd and she loves it, always sleeps really well afterwards too

Where have all the London girls gone? So far its just me and Gingeme at the meet up. Does anyone have MixedMama, Nicky, Beller or any of the other London ladies on facebook? If so, can you nudge them to come over here??!

I took Tamara to baby clinic today (which was the right day ) and am rather chuffed that at 4 weeks and 1 day she now weighs 10lbs 2ozs Hurrah! Got her re-measured and she's 59cms, which makes her 99.6th centile for height, which explains why she's already nearly outgrown some of the 0-3month stuff - I'm going to have to cut the feet of her sleepsuits open to accommodate her rather large feet!

OK, am typing this when I should be sleeping, so am off to bed to try to grab 60mins kip before the next feed...!

Amani · 28/02/2008 15:47

Enjoy your sleep fluffy! I've got Mixedmama details, if you would like me to post a message on. She doesn't have iternet access at home, but can put a message on facebook so she can see it when she logs on.

Has anyone started their period yet. Been 10 weeks since I've had dd2 and no sign of it...

beller · 28/02/2008 16:11

hi i am here!!!

dont get on alot though, looking into buying a nursery at the moment too

where are dets for meet up?sorry typing one handed while george is on boob!

he is 13lb 6 oz now!! had jabs today and been very sleepy, but a little star.

will try and read back for a catch up, hope everyone is well xxxx

madmouse · 28/02/2008 16:11

Hi all

So enjoying Nathan, even though this morning when we had to leave the house by nine he weed all over himself twice after I had just topped and tailed him . We took him to my husband's college to show him off at assembly. As they have all been very busy praying for him and looking after us they were very excited to see him and he got a round of applause which was the only part of the procedure that woke him.

Then I walked home via a friend for lunch, clocking up about 4 miles with the pushchair. Hard work, still not as fit as I used to be (surprise )and misjudged the length of the first stretch and ended up with a fractious and ravenous baby who refused to leave my breast for at least half an hour (long for my efficient little feeder).

Came home to find my dh talking to my community midwife who had been on hols when all the nastiness happened with Nathan and who was rather upset at not being there for us. It was nice to see her and to show off my beautiful boy!

Can't believe some of yours are having jabs already, Nathan will only be four weeks tomorrow!

Amani · 28/02/2008 16:23

Madmouse - lovely to hear that you and your little one have been out and about - makes a world of difference doesn't it?

Talking about time flying DD2 has already outgrown most of her 0-3 mth clothes at 10 weeks!

toomanyshoes · 28/02/2008 17:03

hello, hope you're all well. Just got back from lunch out with the girls i work with. Charlie slept the whole time, hardly any of my friends have seen him with his eyes open! He saves his playtime until the rest of us are trying to sleep

Beller - exciting about the nursery. Have you been to look at anywhere yet?

Madmouse - so pleased you are enjoying Nathan. Charlie very keen on the old 'wee on your nice new clothes' trick too

Awen - sorry to hear about the op. hope its soon so you can get it over and done with. not what you need with a new baby!

Lily - did baby massage with DD and she loved it. haven't got round to it with DS so your post has inspired me to do it tonight!

Amani - no period for me yet. Am surprised as am mixed feeding so thought it would have come back by now. not complaining though, can stay away permanently if it likes!

Susie - its funny the things that calm them down isn't it? DS likes me to stroke his eyebrows or squash my cheek against his - daft boy

Fluffy - will post on meet up thread later - am definitely up for it though! Your clinic story made me laugh, i'm always doing things like that. i have a major case of baby brain, can barely remember my name.

Ginge - glad george happy on the formula and hope your boobs not too painful!

Ange, might have to get one of those slings. Ds much prefers being upright so our current sling isn't getting much use. getting very good at doing things one handed though!

DS had his jabs on tuesday. slept through the one in his arm and only cried for a second after the one in his leg. no reaction after either so very pleased. Was standing by with Calpol but none needed.

Hi to everyone else

lilyloo · 28/02/2008 17:04

Hi all just to let you know back from baby massage and it was great. Martha was fine for most of it and at the end she had a luittle cuddle and a feed and she has been asleep since 2.30 .
I would really reccomend this for any babies who are hard to settle especially, but if not a good chance to spend quality time with baby and to get to chat to other mums too. I even saw someone there i used to go to school with!

Madmouse so good to see things are going great with Nathan. Well done for 4 mile walk too.

Wow Beller he is doing great isn't he !

No period here yet Amani but if you bf you can not get in tuntil you stop, def one of the pro's for me!

Fluffy wow she is growing really quickly, Martha 9lb 8 now but i want her to stay tiny it is all going so quickly. Just sorted out some clothes that she has grown out of already too Don't know what i will do with them as i used them for ds and dd guess they will go to freecycle

beller · 28/02/2008 17:14

toomanyshoes - yes im going to look at one tomorrow morning its a montessori and steiner school...it looks fab, will let you know!

gingeme · 28/02/2008 17:34

sounds exciting Beller. Good luck.
Bought some Sudofed today as suggested. Dh said 'but you don't have a cold'. I explained and he soon understood. Not so engorged today and havn't had to change my top yet.
No period here as yet but not holding my breath now Ive stopped bf.
re doing things one handed. When I was chatting to my gp the other day we were talking about slings etc and she said one of the things she was most proud of was being able to cut fresh bread one handed can't quite work that one out somehow.
George has a cute quirk of being asleep sucking in his bottom lip

fluffyneedssomesleep · 28/02/2008 20:15

Amani - please do drop MixedMama a line on fb if you can...we're considering a meetup in Crouch End on Weds 19th March at 12.00pm at a place called Pick More Daisies. There's a thread under meetups if she's up for it - or she could just turn up if she can make it!!

Now, I can chase down Barristermum, so there's Nicky, Katy and who else to go??!

Hope everyone has good nights...I had a pretty awful one last night, but actually more down to ds having nightmares than Tamara who amazingly went from 11pm to 6.45am without demanding a feed (shame about her wanting company between 3-4am tho...hopefully she's starting to get the message that mummy really doesn't want to play at that time of the morning..!!)

fruitfulinotherways · 28/02/2008 20:59

Amani, my periods came back about a month after I stopped bf'ing, the last 2 times. Obviously they're not going to come back at all this time (hysterectomy). . I'm still trying to work out where I am in my cycle though, its wierd.
