Thought I'd start this thread now as I think there's already a couple of people to go on it, and I know there'll be an awful lot more!!

Will update when I get a chance

Amani · 25/02/2008 16:44

hi everyone
not been on for a while due to family, visitors and DH had some time off work so been out and about.

DD WAKING ONLY ONCE AT NIGHT NIGHT!! So please I feel like shouting it from the roof-tops as I am sleeping properly and feeling much better during the day. Put her to sleep at 9pm, dream feed at 11pm, then she wakes around 4.30am - ish then awake for the day at 8:30am.

Toomanyshoes - congratulations on potty training your DD - how old is she? Keep thinking I must start with mine, but am waiting for the weathe to warm up a little so she can run around in pants

BWMum · 25/02/2008 16:47

Madmouse - re farting, my dd does that too. she's had a dodgy digestive system from the start - didn't poo for 11 days after birth until given a suppository and then took 7 days to poo on her own. she's now on to every 3/4 days which i'm told is completely normal. does mean it all accumulates in her system so she gets pretty smelly farts. i can always tell the day she's going to poo because she is a complete grouch all day until she does it!

one handed typing here so no capitals.....

Amani · 25/02/2008 16:59

Just put this on the other thread but since BMWmum mentioned it:
anyone else amazed at how 'adult sounding' their LO fart's and burps are? Yesterday DD2 let a very noisy one out of her bottom and I got confused as to whether it was my DH trying to annoy me or if it really was DD2.

Fragolina · 25/02/2008 17:27

lol at adult sounding explosions! Dh and I were in stitches on the couch last night - we couldn't believe the noises that were coming out of our little princess!

She's still got cradle cap, although it is getting better, most of her gorgeous long hair has fallen off (patchily), so she is looking abit sorry. I was very brave though, and trimmed off all her hair so I could see what was happening on her scalp (embarassed to admit I did this using my bikini trimmer , which seemed less scary than DHs big hair clippers on her small head). Forgot who was talking about skin conditions and moisturising - I've been slathering on olive oil which is making loads of difference - HV said nut oils should be used when baby is older in case of allergies - not sure how the age makes a difference, surely, if they have a nut allergy, they have one and thats that?!

Went to baby clinic for DIY weigh-in (HVs here only do two house calls and then you're on your own), and saw loads of mums - unfortunately didn't get to make any new friends as everyone was too harassed dressing and undressing their los to chat.

Fragolina · 25/02/2008 17:28

oh, and ange, let me know if you get the hang of the wrap, have one that I just can't work out - was fine when I practiced with bag of potatoes before lo arrived, but is a different scenario trying to get a wriggling baby in there! Need help!

fluffyneedssomesleep · 25/02/2008 18:15

Hi all, just popping in for a quickie before the evening madness begins...

TMS - sorry, I was really pants and never got around to organising a N London meet up for Feb...see, there's a reason I abdicated the last one I was involved with to Gingeme!!! Anyway, I faithfully promise to organise something for March...how about the Tuesday immediately after the Bank Holiday weekend? I will set up a meet ups thread, attempt to post a link here and open up a forum for us all to agree a convenient date and time there....I promise...honest...!!

Amani - congrats, well done! We also had a really good night last night - dh gave dd a bottle of ebm at 11pm, she woke a couple of times between 3-4am but just needed a bit of settling...and the next thing I knew it was 7am!! I would be celebrating more if I thought there was any chance of repeating that tonight.......anyway, it was great to get a total of 7 hours sleep, even if it was a bit broken. Of course doesn't help that ds is having night terrors at the moment, so we're having to settle him a few times a night as well...

Frag - dentinox is great for cradle cap. The nut thing is the new nhs guidelines, but is only something you really need to worry about if you have any nut allergies in your family. We've used almond oil on both lo's from day 1...but then I'm convinced that not being exposed to things (including peanuts when pregnant) is potentially more damaging as it doesn't give them a chance to get acclimatised....Anyway, our ds had terrible (and I mean terrible!) cradle cap until he was about 8 months old, but his hair did grow back during that time, so you only knew it was bad if you looked closely. Over time I found that oiling his head really thoroughly, then gently combing his scalp with a baby comb, followed by a hairwash and more oiling was the most effective way to shift it. Picking at it when he was feeding was also quite a good way, but you have to be careful...

MM - I know what you mean about the driving...first time I drove with both ds and dd in the car I was totally terrified...

OK, ds is in the middle of a Force 5 tantrum (doesn't want to eat his dinner) and dd will require feeding in about 5 mins, so I'd better go and deal with the big little one before the littler little one starts being demanding. Off to get Tamara weighed tomorrow (she'll be 4 weeks exactly), first time since our one and only HV visit when she was 14 days, so wish me luck !

Love to all xxx

PS Such a relief to know that I'm not alone in being a good 'bad' mummy

Naetha · 25/02/2008 20:04

BWmum - the things on your bad mum list are all on mine, especially the dummy thing! I may ve given Ben a lick of cadbury's creme egg fondant as well! [bad mother emoticon]

I'm in love with my lactaline breastpump - I get between 8 and 10oz a go! It means I express once for every two feeds so doesn't take as long. It was pricey at £85, but as long as I use it until DS is at least 20 weeks, it will have paid for itself compared to switching to formula.

As for the spots, Ben had terrible spots when he was born - the milia have gone, but he's still left with quite bad infant acne.

I've decided to go and see the GP about what is possibly PND. I didn't consider it as being PND but DH certainly thinks I should see a doctor about it - I get major anxiety attacks about stupid irrational fears - made a post here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/2100/485104.

Anyway, off to watch a film

OP posts:
lilyloo · 25/02/2008 20:36

Went to see hv today and the milk spots are infant acne but it looks infected so have to make doctors apt for her tom to get some antibiotics feel quite bad now as she has had it for couple weeks ! Bad mom !

MM sounds like you had lovely day.

Naetha will check your other thread now but sending you ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) sounds like you have a great dh.

katyt1 · 25/02/2008 21:07

i love mine.

madmouse - cycling??? glad all sounding so normal for you and ds.

naetha - saw other thread, hope all works out with gp, i have to say i have some similar feelings but i guess the difference is when it starts to affect your day to day life. i just thought i was weird

re meetup, still poss up for joining you in london whenever.

best try and post this before pc crashes again.

mum2samandalex · 25/02/2008 22:03

hiya all, sorry to hear some of you are having bad nights Alex does tend to go straight back to sleep. Just wondered how you prepare the bed if your co-sleeping if ds slept on top of the duvet could i jusp pop a blanket on him? Feel a bit nervous about co-sleeping but if it helps me gat more sleep then maybe i should give it a try.

Thats a shame about about that freedom sling mine just arrived the other day off ebay £25 was struggling to work out the different positions but if you go on youtube there are vidio demonstrations that are really easy to follow.

How do you know if its infant acne or milk spots Alex has had his for ages too. Wondering whether the central heating may be making them worse.

mum2samandalex · 25/02/2008 22:56

just like to add to the bad mummy list-putting baby to bed and then settling donwstairs to watch eastenders only to realise after that baby monitor isnt switched on and hes been crying hopefully for not very long

gingeme · 26/02/2008 10:39

Good morning ladies.
Well Goerge is officialy on the bottle now. Had his first one at 8 this morning, guzzled it down, did a massive burp, and seems quite happy and smiley and is currenlty asleep in his chair. Im slowly coming round to the fact that I am not a bad Mummy for doing this to him and all my other boys are fine being formula fed and all the other milions of babys that are too.
Just had a shower and my boobs were squirting like mad so tried not to look as I would have just started crying.
Got my 6 week check today at 1.30 will give the mid wife an ear bending while Im there too.
Oh had Geirge weighed yesterday. He is now 10lb 9 oz.
Well have a good day all.

scaryhairycat · 26/02/2008 11:44

Hi all, Wow it's been a long time since my last post! In fact I don't think I have posted on the postnatal thread yet - just haven't had the time!
gingeme - I am glad you are not feeling like a bad mummy, you shouldn't and nobody should for ff. (I confess I gave up after 24hrs with this one! - had nightmares coming back to me from bf ds; constant feeding and crap latch despite being told I was a 'natural' when it came to positioning etc! Just wanted to enjoy this baby and not feel like a faliure like I did last time. ) There is way too much guilt placed on women to bf, which really is silly - if you can hack it, great. If you can't then it really doesn't matter and well done for the time that you did do it, that's what I say!
DD is such a little angel, right from the start practically she has slept well at night - her pattern seems to be feed at 10-11pm then sleep, (if not over tired - then it takes a little while to get her off) then another at 2-3am and always feeds well (takes 10-20 mins) and goes straight back down, and then again at 7-8 and goes down again until about now. I must admit I am lucky enough not to be feeling really tired, as I always seem to get a minimum of 5hrs sleep a night - hope this continues!
She has also started making little cooing noises, (3 weeks today) had a lovely 'conversation' for about half an hour where she was really trying to make noises - it was so sweet and it seemed to require a lot of effort on her part! She smiles loads aswell - especially at the start of the day when I peer into her basket to say good morning!(ok, getting really soppy now - off to prod my slumbering dd in the hope she will need something!)

lilyloo · 26/02/2008 14:26

Good to see you scary , and dd sounds like a dream

Well done Gingeme on bf him up to here and it sounds like the right thing if George settled so quickly in his chair, you cannnot keep carrying him round with the other 4 to look after too so sounds like this was the best option in your case.

Mum2Sam if you put him on top of duvet then blankets would be fine or a gro/ sleeping bag as they can't kick them off or you can't move them. Not sure how you know difference r/e spots but hv did. She said to put vaseline on their skin when they go out as they can get really dry. Ironically Martha's are laods better this morning and the crusty stuff has all gone so we haven't gone to the doctors and are just going to bathe them with boiled water as h/v said if they aren't pussy!

Well done Katy on getting lo to bed at 7 we now getting Martha down in her basket at 10 pm. She has her first sleep in here but then stays with us afterwards but we all getting lot's of sleep so am happy with this for the mo

Hope everyon else plodding along

gingeme · 26/02/2008 14:35

Thankyou scarycat. Your little girl sounds like an angel Yes may it long continue .
Just got back from my check up. All is well and the gp said even if I dont do any excrsise for a while must do pelvic floor ones especialy as this is baby number 5 I have been through 3 bras and two t shirts today due to leaky boobs. Gp said it should take 6-10 days to dry up. In the mean time take paracetamol and rest.
Dh cant believe how much ds has slept this morning. Normaly hes yelling away for a booby every few minutes.Must be content now.
Ah well going to get my hair cut at 4. Taking my boys too. They love having their hair cut as they get to look in the big mirrors little posers that they are.
Dh has got two holiday in March. Anyone fancy a meet u ayt some point?

Amani · 26/02/2008 16:09

Fluffy - good to know you slept better.

Froagolina - our DD" had cradle cap and we found applying Olive Oil on the scalp and washing it off helped lots.

Naetha - I've got PND and taking steps to overcome it. Going to your GP is a good start.

Gingeme - why have you switch to bottle? Please don't feel like a bad mother, as long as your baby is being fed and is healthy - that's the main thing.

scaryhairy - we've started to get cooing noises too - it's lovely isn't it?

Went to parent and toddler group today - it felt so good having adult conversation and just getting out of the house.

MoominMum · 26/02/2008 16:27

Anyone else have experience of inguinal hernia? The wee lad's got a lump in his bag of bits which was picked up at 6 week check. Were waiting for a referral to paed surgeon but we were at the hospital for something else and when they took his nappy off the lump was 4 times bigger than it had been . Fortunately the physio could see we were really worried about it so arranged an appt with the surgeon while we were there and they pushed it back in. Said it's not a cause for concern as long as it will go back in but they've put him on the cancellation list for surgery to sort it soonest - in fact they asked when he'd last fed in case they could take him there and then. Really glad they couldn't as we've at least got a chance to get our heads round handing him over to have things done to him - quite scary! Anyway, me and Moominpop both feel really uncomfortable prodding at it in case we hurt him, or worse, rupture something and are not confident that we know what we're doing. Dr and surgeon were so perfunctory about explaining how to do it - it's obviously not a big deal to them - but he's our precious wee bundle! Guess I could just use some reassurance that we won't break him!!
Started this post this morning but that's us just back from his 8 wk jabs - poor brave wee pudding, it was heartbreaking but think he's fine!

fluffyneedssomesleep · 26/02/2008 18:18

OK girls, the N/NW London meet up thread is now open for discussion!!!

Come over here and lets discuss dates, times etc etc!!

I'm off to polish my halo [virtuous emoticon] for finally getting that up!

Actually, that's a lie...I'm off to do the amd evening getting 2 kids fed and into bed stuff

Last night was pants, fingers crossed tonight will be better...

Love to all xxx

fruitfulinotherways · 26/02/2008 20:37

MoominMum, ds2 has a bellybutton hernia. They've said if it doesnt sort itself it will need surgery. And if I can push it in then it is ok. horrid!

katyt1 · 26/02/2008 21:09

evening all,

gingeme - are you happiest stopping bf completly? just wondered if you had thought of trying to mix feed for a bit to ease your boobs/supply down, maybe 2 feeds a day, down to 1 later, then stop?
i can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be to stop 'cold turkey'.
but otherwise don't beat yourself up, 6 weeks is good going by anyones standards

mum2s&a - have so done that with the monitor! in fact put ds2 to bed, came down, started sorting dinner, then realised i hadn't even turned on the bit upstairs!

hi scary

thanks lily

amani - hope the pnd is under control? positive vibes to you

moominmum - that sounds scary. ds1 had to have his testicles descended and it was scary for us, but nowhere near as bad as we had anticipated. over v quickly and he was fine, best of luck.

fluffy - hope bedtime went ok. well done on thread, will pop over in a bit.

had ds2 weighed, now 11,2
managed to get him in crib asleep by 7.45
also, my mum did her first nappy today, hooray!!! and for ds1 no less and it was a pooey one
so, off to london to stay with ds2 and dh whilst she stays here with ds1. having lunch with friends on thurs, then back home. shd be fun with ds2 in a sling on the train, so much easier than trying to entertain ds1 and deal with a buggy!

ok, off to bed in a mo, night all

fluffyneedssomesleep · 26/02/2008 22:22

Katy - have fun in London Hope you can make it down for the meet up in March? [hopeful face] Well done on the weight...very impressive

Gingeme - if you and George are happier then you've done the right thing But Katy makes a good point about slowing down the bf-ing rather than going cold turkey - it certainly hurts a lot less - I guess it depends if you can cope with any more bf-ing now you've decided to stop? If you can, you could always do a top-up after a bf if you're concerned about George getting enough to settle afterwards? Just a thought

I had a really bad 'doh' moment today...spent the first 2 hours of the day charging around trying to get everything done and rushed Tamara thru her 10.30am feed (no nappy change and minimal burping) in order to get her to the clinic to be weighted (in my defence, no nappy change was cos I knew I'd be stripping her in 15 mins time anyway and she hadn't pooed!!)...got over there to discover I'd turned up on the wrong blinkin day And I'm pretty certain I did exactly the same thing, at the same place, with ds 2.5 years ago !

So now we've got to go through that all over again on Thursday....boo!!

OK, off to bed...fingers crossed for a better night xx

PS Just checked the meetup thread...no posts there yet...come on ladies!!

fluffyneedssomesleep · 26/02/2008 22:23

Weighed, not weighted. Obviously...

lilyloo · 27/02/2008 10:49

morning all am very [happy] today as we managed to get Martha inot cot after bath at 7 pm last night and bar waking up for couple quick feeds she slept until 8 ! It was odd though when i was sat downstairs without her last night and have to confess to disturbing her when i went to check on her couple times despite monitor being on

Anyone seen the baby gro's from Next ? DD got a pack of 3 and they have gloves attached to the end of the sleeves , they great espcially to stop her scratching with the spots and spreading them!

Anyone awake when the earthquake happened ? It woke me and i thought it was a dream but didn't wake anyone else in our house!

Katy have lovely time in London

Fluffy , whoops! Hope the staff didn't remember you!

Amani know what you mean r/e adult convo have to admit to getting to dd pre school , ds school a little early to chat to the other mums!

Moomin sorry no help but can imagins it must be hard, why not speak to h/v and ask her to show you how to do it again ?

AngeChica · 27/02/2008 11:12

A first - have just got Aleksander to sit in his bouncy chair for half an hour so I have my hands free. I was starting to feel surgically attached to him as he was either feeding or in my arms and felt I didnt even have time to brush my teeth! He will not settle at all in his moses basket at the moment, which worries me for some reason though I really hope it is a phase.

gingeme · 27/02/2008 15:26

Hi ladies. No I have gone cold turkey and yes they hurt!! Been changing my bras and tops about 4 times a day and have been putting muslin squares down my bras which once moulded make me look like Jordan
I am taking paracetamol too. I did the same with the others and have been ok. My gp said it would take 6-10 days to dry up. Dh said I could treat myself to some pretty bras when they have settled down.
Oh these hernias sound horrible. Never had experience of one but I have seen how they look when lo's cry
Had the joy of projectile vomit from George last night. I was stripping my bed off at 10.30 pm ah bless him.....
Im going to pop over to the meet up thread now.
Have a good day all xxx
