We are going to request no toys for his birthday
Does that make us mean parents? Most of the toys he got for Christmas were 12m+ and we're already running out of space for them - and we're now in the bigger house!

Night everyone x

WO, glad it's not just me. Wardrobes plural though? I've just put D's 6-9 month clothes away and the space is more than filled with 9-12 months, even with stuff still in the laundry bag. My stepsister and I are lucky in that my mum and her dad are taking in the stuff that D and her ds born last March have outgrown that we want to hang on to in the hope of a 2nd baby, but they may run out of space and patience.

I'm amused that for all my mum's claims to be practical, D had more toys to play with in Ilkley than here. She's brought down a noisy activity centre/baby walker for him - she acquired an identical pair from a twin mummy - down to one bit being damaged in exactly the same way - we keep imagining two babies playing with an electronic talking toy. (Oooggs/KHIN, how do you cope with chasing two around?)

SPB, I think you're being perfectly reasonable. How many Christmas toys will the April mummies want to break this month? Top of my list is the talking globe from my stepdad and his wife.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 01/01/2008 23:26

elkie is it a vtech one?

OP posts:
elkiedee · 01/01/2008 23:32

POTC, the globe is Leapfrog but the baby walker is Vtech. Still, the Vtech creations may drive me insane but D does really enjoy them - his childminder to be had a mini activity thing he loved - I only decided against getting him one at home (they were on sale in Mothercare) on the basis that I want him to be able to play with toys there that he doesn't have here.

PillockOfTheCommunity · 01/01/2008 23:34

I give you a month before you want to throw it out the window

We have a vtech talking globe that M was bought christmas before last, drives me nuts! J does love it though so it may be around for some time to come

We have a talking globe too the N got a couple of years ago, has a little joystick to steer yourself around the world, or me around the bend! It is one of the most annoying toys ever!!!

Anybody else's baby only really happy when they're playing with packets of wipes, wires , nappies, carrier bags or any other things they shouldn't have?! He ocassionally plays with his actual toys but mostly its the things he shouldn't have that he really wants!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 01/01/2008 23:50

joe gets over excited by a red balloon. it has to be the red one

that's the one we have pesha, blardy irritating aunty present (you know, one of those that childless aunties buy them!)

fpesha · 01/01/2008 23:57

Lol yep Nathan's was from my dad, he bought a M a more grown up globe so think he thought N would like one too! To be fair N does love it, its just me thats not so keen.

The one toy D really likes is this farm my mum bought him. Well not the farm but he loves the little characters, think its the little string legs and the noises of course.

At the pantomine N had a cow mask that Granny bought him, D was fascinated! A little nervous at first but then just staring transfixed!

fpesha · 01/01/2008 23:58

Although the horse is the only one that I could actually tell you where it is right now!

fpesha · 02/01/2008 00:01

Bloody hell its midnight How did that happen?! I've still gotta have a bath and wash my hair, wont get a chance in the morning. It was 10 past 11 just now and D had woken up so was just gonna give him 5 mins to settle down into a proper sleep before running the bath and now its sodding midnight

fpesha · 02/01/2008 00:02

And now I'm talking to myself

elkiedee · 02/01/2008 00:20

I'm still up. D is awake but dp is upstairs with him, had gone to bed but not to sleep. I can hear him chatting/singing but at least he's not crying (D not dp). Enjoy your bath.

cazboldy · 02/01/2008 07:37

Elkiedee My mum bought that globe for Molly, as did my sil and my friend!!!

I have let her have one of them, but think three would be enought to drive anyone mad so have put some money into her bank and hidden the others in my wardrobe, ready to inflict on my pg sil and another pg friend when their lo's arrive! Evil I know.

cazboldy · 02/01/2008 07:39

I amreally bloody annoyed this morning...... I have just realised that Harry ds2 goes back to school tomorrow this holiday has gone so fast! And to make matters worse Ds1 and dd1 don't go back until Monday!

cazboldy · 02/01/2008 07:39

And it's ds3's 2nd birthday tomorrow!

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2008 08:08

happy birthday caz's DS3!
pesha, yes, he will ocassionally show an interest in toys (the singing car seems particularly popular at the moment) but the only things we can guarantee will keep him entertained are wires, baby wips/nappy sacks, carrier bags, big shiney knives...you get the picture. Plus climbing up on anything with sharp edges, and climbing stairs!

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2008 08:08

oh and pulling books and DVDs off the bookshelves to suck

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2008 08:09

sorry, just realised you posted that today caz, not last night, so it's not your DS's birthday until tomorrow

geordiemacminxpie · 02/01/2008 08:13

What is it with baby wipes? C goes mad for them.... he also likes the dvd player and the sky box at the moment... much to dp's delight.. NOT!!!!

cazboldy · 02/01/2008 08:26

Thanks in advance SPB!

cazboldy · 02/01/2008 08:27

Wait until they are a bit older and you leave them for a minute and come back to a whole packet of wipes emptied out on the floor!

StealthPolarBear · 02/01/2008 08:42

I think T has been eating them, I'm certain DH bought a 4 pack on Christmas eve, we've just run out

NorthernLurker · 02/01/2008 08:52

Hello all

we went out yesterday afternoon to Fountains Abbey and then had family tea together and dd1 and I watched Doctor Who so what with that and slaying the ironing/washing dragon I didn't get back on-line yesterday. But I've taken notes - apologies in advance to anyone I've missed

SPB - sounds like a good decision not to take T - he will be fine and I'm sure you and dh will have a lovely time - prepare for lots of people saying 'where have you left that baby then' - like you put him down at the motorway services and forgot to pick him up!

Runny at your mil. Tbh - I wouldn't want to rely on anyone like that - it's just going to make life very stressful. Good luck with deciding what you want to do.

POTC - Go Domestic Goddess!!

Elkie - hope all is ok with you and dp now - personally I'm feeling rather vexed with my dh atm - sure I'll get over it in a bit

Dippy - dh says there's a book by Matt Redman called 'Blessed be Your Name'have you seen this? might be worth a look? I just wish we could convey on-line how wonderfully uplifting and moving the music is to that song - and catchy too - I was humming it all day yesterday!

GMM - B loves the NTL box as well.....oh and I've had baby wipes all over the floor before and will again. I think it's because they're fascinated how they just keep popping up - you pull one out and there's another

Oooggs - thinking of you and hoping you are feeling physically improved?

We are off for an expedition shortly - going to the Lake District for the day - providing dh can tear himself away from his bacon sandwich.... - actually dd1 is having 1 too.
