Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@fran919 thanks!
Yeah I guessed it might take a but of time for them to learn how to use their tongue. Crazy it moves so much more already! We use tommee tippee but I do have a mam we could try, thanks.

Magik01 · 18/12/2021 09:03

@Smallbean27 no exercises given here either. I did read online before we had it done that sometimes it can really be painful for them sticking your finger in their mouth while it’s feeling so if rather not. Like @Fran919 I’m just encouraging him to move his tongue a lot and licking it out.

Another night where the longest stretch of sleep was 3 hours. It’s been weeks now, when does it end?

BertieBotts · 18/12/2021 09:13

Do you want a real answer to that question? D:

RandomCatGenerator · 18/12/2021 14:54

@Magik01 that’s the life I’ve led for the last 4 months!!

sarah13xx · 18/12/2021 15:24

Did a lateral flow this morning and DH doesn’t really buy into covid 🤦🏼‍♀️ But I made him do one too. Mine was negative but his came up positive straight away! We’ve just been for PCR’s, Freddie and I went in my car and he went in another so that we don’t catch it if we’re negative. I had registered Freddie for a test but wasn’t sure about doing it when I got there. In the end up I attempted it but I don’t think it would have been anywhere near his tonsils 🙈 just dreading them coming back positive now and that’s Christmas ruined 😭

Magik01 · 18/12/2021 15:42

Oh no @sarah13xx I’ve also been for a PCR today as I’ve got a cough but think it’s an after affect from the tonsillitis. Just for future reference, you don’t have to do the throat for babies/toddlers, just nostrils. Hope your negative!

sarah13xx · 18/12/2021 16:21

@Magik01 oh do you not?! Well I basically just put it in his mouth then did the nose properly but he’s got such a wee nose and you don’t know how high up you’re putting it so I barely put it far up at all 🙈 Chances are I’m positive but don’t have symptoms because he’s done another lateral flow and it’s positive again. Hopefully yours is just a cough and doesn’t ruin your Christmas 🤞🏼 It’s really not worth going anywhere anymore 😭

Smurf123 · 18/12/2021 16:27

Oh no @sarah13xx hope you are all ok. In uk you just have to do nose on hound child. Here in Denmark it's only throat but they said they don't recommend testing under 2 as close contacts unless they are displaying symptoms. I know it was only a recommendation for pcr tests for under 5 close contacts at home but that may have changed with omnicron I'm not sure.
We have had our third test done today so I'm really hoping we all get negative results from it!

@Magik01 we seem stuck in the never ending sleep regression too. We had one good night this week then back to hourly or 2 hourly wake ups 🙈

PurplePansy05 · 18/12/2021 17:11

The Seraphine 3 in 1 parkas are now on sale, £129, if anyone's looking for a Christmas gift inspiration 😀 xx

@PurplePansy05 yeah I’ll pretend I didn’t see that 🙉

sarah13xx · 18/12/2021 18:13

@Smurf123 hope you’re negative! Seems to be so many people having to go for tests this week 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t think there’s much chance of DH not having it now he’s had two positive lateral flows but I don’t really know what we plan to do if mine and Freddie’s come back negative. The only reason I wanted to test him was so that we could maybe stay elsewhere. We wouldn’t be allowed to move to my mum’s and isolate there (she has a way bigger house and fields for the dogs so we wouldn’t need to walk them) which is annoying but potentially DH could go and stay in their empty flat. He’s had a cold since Tuesday he thinks, although not very noticeable til today. So technically if he gave those dates to track and trace they’d maybe say he’d be allowed out on 23rd, meaning we wouldn’t miss Christmas but I wouldn’t feel okay about going into family’s houses at Christmas now. Ideally we could get out just to walk the dogs and do a doorstep drop off of presents once he’s out of official isolation though

sarah13xx · 18/12/2021 18:28

I could be about 10 years late with this one but at our Christmas party at baby sensory the other day she played this one and said it was a parent favourite. You just hold them against you while sitting and rock forwards, backwards, side to side and lift them up and down. Thought it was really cute ☺️ I played it in the living room there and did it with him and he did the quivering lip like he was going to cry because it was a slow song 😂🥺

PurplePansy05 · 18/12/2021 18:41

Oh this one was played at every single group I've been to @sarah13xx, it was nice at first, but I'm sick of it now 😂 Leo likes it though, so I'm stuck with it! xx

On PCRs, I’ve done a few (required for almost all internal travel in India at the moment). The way it tends to be done here is that someone does it for you, you don’t do it yourself. Last one I had, I felt like the technician was trying to fish out my brain - but the same person doing DS just twizzled it very shallowly into his nose and mouth. Just in case that’s of reassurance for those of you worried tou arent being assiduous enough!

sarah13xx · 18/12/2021 19:26

@RandomCatGenerator oh that’s good to know! Well I definitely did his nose right, just hope the milk/sick in his mouth didnt ruin the test first 😂

@PurplePansy05 I did get the impression I was late to the party 😂

Smurf123 · 18/12/2021 21:09

@sarah13xx I loved that one too when we went with ds. The songs are all on Spotify if anyone is looking them. The say hello to the sun song was a magical weapon for ds. We literally had it playing everywhere the car, bed all sorts. It used to stop him crying almost instantly!

Ready2020 · 19/12/2021 11:34

Lots of messages to catch up on again! I'm doing a craft fair today. Bit short notice but I had lots of stock left over from before baby.

DD had a terrible night from 2am. Awake every hour until 7am where we both slept until 8.30. I've got a cold as well so was feeling awful. Took a lateral flow test just incase but it's fine. No idea what was up with her. I feel like she wants to feed from 2am all the time but not as much during the day. It's not great. Hoping that it'll pass but no sign yet.

The Bible passage thread mentioned there was brilliant! So entertaining!

Gosh I've missed so much!!

We had my sister's wedding on Saturday, it was so much fun - though I felt very lame on Sunday waking up feeling fresh and not even a tiny bit hungover 😂 and bless Rowan he did so well even though he was totally knackered. I told just about everyone who asked for a hold no, and that was so the right decision as I think he'd have been beside himself with overstimulation had I played pass the baby. Just hoping I've not caught covid as everyone I know who's been to a wedding recently has!!

@sarah13xx what rotten luck - keeping fingers crossed for you!

sarah13xx · 20/12/2021 06:16

@biscuitcat aw thank you

@Ready2020 hope the craft fair went well!

We had it confirmed DH has covid 🤦🏼‍♀️ He’s staying in our bedroom and not coming out. I’m sleeping in Freddie’s room with him from now on 🙈 It’s honestly a full time job looking after them all! I spent all of yesterday just sprinting round the house sorting him, Freddie, the dog, the washings and the dishwasher out, while frantically cleaning everything I touched and washing my hands in case I’d touched anything he’d already touched before he went in there 🤦🏼‍♀️ I sat down with a glass of wine last night like omg, what a day 🙈

Freddie fell asleep during his bottle last night. He’d refused to nap and it ended up getting so close to 7pm I just lifted him back out. I put him on his swimming float (on his front) and he swam up and down the bath for a while 😂 The whole time having to hold the phone on FaceTime so DH through the wall could see! So by the time we got to the bottle he was exhausted and fell asleep half way through. He always needs that 7oz to make him last all night so I just knew he’d be up hungry during the night. He’s woke up at half 5 so I’ve just given him a 7oz bottle. He’s downed it and was looking for more but I’ve put him back in. He’s now wide awake chatting away to himself 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I don’t think he should be this hungry just from missing one feed and now I think about it he does quite often his 6oz during the day (he only gets 7 before bed and first one of the day). So I think il need to up the during the day ones to 7 then he might not take so many. I’m sure the same thing happened when we went from 5 to 6 too and I wasn’t sure I should be moving him up at that age but he’s way taller than the average baby I think, he was in 6-9 pyjamas last night 🙈 What are formula fed people feeding just now? How many a day are they having? He seems to have one bottle after another but he’s maybe just never quite getting full

Daffodil21 · 20/12/2021 06:18

@sarah13xx DS is on 7oz now. He doesn't always finish it but sometimes he does. Sorry about the positive Covid test!!
