Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@PurplePansy05 I feel like I can spend 2 hours tidying my living room and blink and it's messy again especially with the amount of toys!
So my 2 week stay with the on laws has turns into a 4 week stay and we are due to go on Monday now. I don't even know where to start. Had planned on making pizza for dinner tonight too but dd still fussy after her jabs and I haven't been able to put her down to make the dough.

No rolling here yet. She will spending slightly longer on the mat now before getting annoyed. I think with the reflux she's happier sitting in the bouncer though

Inmypjsagain · 02/12/2021 18:15

@PurplePansy05 teething does not sound fun! Bless him! Does bonjela help him? I think the roll once and lose interest is quite common, it’s like I’ve done it so I can’t be bothered to do it again! 2 of the nct babies are similar. I just think mine genuinely enjoys it, especially on the changing mat because he likes to make nappy change time challenging 😂 oh I’m not sure if sitting up makes it sound more advance than it is- he’s not straight backed upright, he sits quite forward supporting himself with his arms on the sofa. Sometimes he’ll lean too far back or to the side and then slow mo flop back but he’s doing it himself without me. But it started when he’d be sitting on your lap and would do what looked like a sit up (obviously wasn’t though) to upright position where he’d wobble about. Imagine height helps?

And I sooooo relate to the never ending washing up, tidying, putting away etc I said it To my husband earlier. I just can’t keep the kitchen clear and I don’t know why? We did a lot of online Christmas ordering at the weekend so a lot of the packaging from those deliveries don’t help the mess! Genuinely think we’re in a worse state than when we were the newborn days. The clothes washing is never bloody ending

Inmypjsagain · 02/12/2021 18:18

@Smurf123 4 weeks with the in laws??? Bloody hell. The whole festive period? Impressed you were going to making pizza properly! Most we do is a pizza express pizza in the oven!

Smurf123 · 02/12/2021 20:22

@Inmypjsagain yes the entire time 😫 they live in eu so we were supposed to be travelling for 2 weeks. Then ryanair cancelled our return flight and put us on the next one 4 days later so 2.5 weeks.. Then omnicron was announced and they plus dh are all worried about borders closing so pushed for us to go early. If only he wasn't off on parental leave then we wouldn't have been able to. I was guilt tripped into agreeing with the well if you hadn't seen your family in 2 years you'd be going too. (I can't really argue with that)
But I'm dreading it. Ds will be missing 2 weeks of nursery school, his first Christmas Carol concert/play, Christmas party etc. I will miss my family for a month. Im worried we will have to isolate for 10 days on our return. (Both due back at work the day after we return) and we have had to pay a ton of money to have the dog in boarding for a month. Also they speak a different language which I don't speak (they can if they choose to speak near perfect English!) grr sorry for the rant.

Re pizza ds is the fussiest eater on the planet but he will eat pizza.. So homemade pizza and a choice of toppings. So far he's actually ate pepperoni and chicken on his pizza, tried ham too but less fussed on it. But he will not eat or even try any meat otherwise so it's the only way to get protein in him 🙈

lucyrp · 02/12/2021 20:42

@Inmypjsagain looks lovely! Whenever I take DD out in the pram j always wish I could get in there! Looks so comfy especially when it's raining with the rain cover on😍 yes we're all good thank you! Hoping DS will be a bit more careful around her now 😅

lucyrp · 03/12/2021 05:21

So ladies I'd thought I'd share my victory on here... after a tough start and feeding with breast shields for 3 months out of the blue yesterday Evelyn has started feeding straight from my nipple! 🥳🥳🥳 I hope it's not short lived as we've gone from not being able to feed without shields to doing every feed yesterday and through the night without them!

PurplePansy05 · 03/12/2021 08:33

That's wonderful @lucyrp, such a huge achievement and well done for perservering for so long Flowers I never knew how challenging bf can be until DS arrived. Blows my mind that we still have to go through obstacles now, it's just they're different to the early ones.

Only yesterday he wouldn't settle for bf at all late afternoon and had to give him a bottle instead. I'm really struggling sometimes with positioning, we'll have 4 good feeds a day and randomly the 5th one (at various times of the day), he'd be fussing, crying, get cranky etc, for no apparent reason. I think he gets windy still. He also gets easily distracted now. I will be trying to feed in a quiet, darker room perhaps, but what to do if he still has some digestive issues? Any tips for this cause it's getting impossible, he gets upset and I get even more upset when he rejects me 😔 xx

Smurf123 · 03/12/2021 08:40

Amazing @lucyrp that's great news!

@PurplePansy05 dd is a bit like that too atm but I think it's because she's annoyed that there's other stuff going on around her. She usually eventually settles or tbh I occasionally take her off and try again in 5/10 mins

WolfMother326 · 03/12/2021 13:00

@lucyrp that's amazing! I'm still using t he shields despite trying frequently to take them off. But I've decided not to worry as my supply seems to be going up lately rather than down which is the worry of course. Well done to you and Evelyn.

@Smurf123 I feel your pain having spent 5 months in Wales with my in laws during first lockdown. We went to help them as they're quite elderly and we could work from home but it was sooooo difficult. I hope you have an easy time and that they help a lot with the kids to compensate.

lucyrp · 03/12/2021 13:02

@WolfMother326 I know you probably have but have you tried the flipple latch and sandwich hold ??? That's what I've been doing. Letting her feed for 4 or so minutes then taking it off in the middle although I haven't really done it much only started the last week or so so wish I'd tried harder sooner, although I'm wondering if it's because her mouth has got bigger now she's older as they say that can be the issue.

Thanks everyone I feel chuffed 🥳

WolfMother326 · 03/12/2021 13:03

Has anyone who had a c section started exercising again? I'm 3.5 months pp and have been swimming a bit the past month with no pain. Would like to do couch to 5k but bit nervous to start. The incision doesn't hurt but occasionally I still get an uncomfortable tingling sensation in it at night time. My gp seems to have no opinion and didn't even touch my scar/check for issues at 8 week postnatal check up. Thoughts?
PS my DH will watch Alasdair during runs I know he's too little for a running buggy.

WolfMother326 · 03/12/2021 13:05

@lucyrp yes we've tried that no luck. Recently seen an osteopath too. Alasdair has a small mouth too. I will keep trying. Thanks for the inspiration!

biscuitcat · 03/12/2021 13:09

Fab news @lucyrp! That's the same technique my lactation consultant showed me when she helped me get Rowan off the shields, and he's been feeding like a trooper since. I think you're right that the bigger mouth also helps.

@WolfMother326 I'm back up to doing normal length dog walks now, so an hour/hour and a half, over relatively bumpy ground (Rowan in the carrier as sadly the buggy won't hack it!), and haven't noticed any pain/tingling. I haven't considered running though as every time I've tried it in the past I've hated it! My mum has told me that when she's exercised really hard she still sometimes feels a sensation in her scar and that's 30 years old now, so it might be something that just hangs around

Daffodil21 · 03/12/2021 13:10

@WolfMother326 my exercise has always been on the more gentler side 😳 if I was a runner then yes I would be happy going to at least test the waters. I've done swimming and lots of hiking about, plus some steps up and down on the stepper, which I know isn't the same as running but that's the most energetic as I get! I did recover really well though and it doesn't feel like I had a section at all

@lucyrp good going!!!!!

@PurplePansy05 sorry for the late reply - it wasn't done via the GP as it could only be a self refer thing. I'll give it the full three weeks and then I'll start to chase x

PurplePansy05 · 03/12/2021 13:54

@WolfMother326 I'd say if you feel like it, go ahead. I'm doing C25K now (started last week) even after my longer post-CS recovery and it's been fine. I might not crack on with it around Christmas, but wanted to do something to warm up before doing it properly from January. I've also signed up for an outdoors mum & baby fitness class starting next month and will be doing a dance class with my mate, we're hoping to try next week. I've really missed exercising and I need it for MH too. xx

WolfMother326 · 03/12/2021 14:40

Thanks everyone, I'm going to give it a go (gently). It might take a few days to start as I have to find a running bra that fits my much larger chest and also see if shoes still fit etc. Excited to get going again. Well done @PurplePansy05 @Daffodil21 and @biscuitcat for getting started with some gentle fitness... really hard to make the time with my little boob monster but I've loved swimming when I can.

lucyrp · 03/12/2021 15:06

Sick question.. ladies who are BF are your babies very sicky? Evelyn is sick after every feed and then continues to "spit up" for ages after every now and again

PurplePansy05 · 03/12/2021 15:07

@WolfMother326 Bralette bras all the way here! They are the only ones that stretch enough to fit me now and I didn't want to spend £40 on a Bravissimo sports bra that won't fit me in several months' time. I'd recommend that! Easy to fit in breast pads too 👌 xx

PurplePansy05 · 03/12/2021 15:10

Haha @lucyrp Leo was sick over my boob yesterday whilst feeding 😂 But he was too greedy to stop 😂 I think he was meant to burp but it's gone too high up, bless him. Gross, I know! He is normally a bit sick immediately after and will spit out more within half an hour after a feed. It's not awful anymore but it means 10 bibs on the go with his constant drooling as well! xx

RandomCatGenerator · 03/12/2021 16:52

@WolfMother326 my scar has been quite uncomfortable for the last week or so. When I touch it it feels fine, but the whole area is sensitive?

Those who has c sections - is this normal?

RandomCatGenerator · 03/12/2021 16:55

@Inmypjsagain sadly this is not too early for teething! The discomfort can start from three months.

I recommend Sophie la Girafe but he way. DS doesn’t have the motor skills to hold her to his mouth but when we put her legs in or near his mouth she gets happily and enthusiastically chomped.

WolfMother326 · 03/12/2021 17:03

@RandomCatGenerator I think its nerve damage, but if its really uncomfortable you should get it checked.

@PurplePansy05 thanks that is a good tip. What are you eating by way of healthy snacks for runs? I am still insatiable and trying to make better choices...

I just went for a brisk walk with baby in the bassinet attachment on the pram frame and I broke into a tiny jog. Felt fine. The surface was even and baby seemed not to notice or bounce around as lsying flat. Is this safe? I expect my 'runs' will be slower than most people walk but dont know if its ok to tske him with me sometimes?

Ready2020 · 03/12/2021 20:13

@lucyrp my DD has thrown up on me about 4 times today. General right after a feed but also sometimes a while after. I think she gets a lot of milk all at once so it can be a bit much and a burp turns into a sicky. Was a lot today though. Had to change my top a few times. I just wear leggings and a BShirt at home and put a dress over it when going out so a few stains don't usually bother me but I was soaked today!

We're getting a last minute Christmas present together tomorrow with an early appointment to get DDs foot and hand print in clay. It takes 2 weeks to dry apparently so we're cutting it fine. I usually nap a bit in the morning but we need to be away so I hope we have a good night tonight.

lucyrp · 03/12/2021 20:16

Thanks for the feedback on sick, I'm wondering if I have a reflux baby as she is very windy and we get a lot of screaming, sick and she goes so straight you can't sit her up to wind her for ages

biscuitcat · 03/12/2021 20:20

@lucyrp DS seems to be getting more sicky recently - but at random times, it's not after every feed or even every day. Like yesterday, I think we went through 5 outfits as he just kept getting milk on them, but today has been nowhere near so bad - totally unpredictable.

I wonder if we might have some teething here - Rowan doesn't seem really uncomfortable, but he's had a pink cheek on one side for a few days and has been super dribbly, plus having his hands in his mouth a lot (though he did that anyway and that could just be he likes his hands!)
