Welcome to the chattiest post-natal club on MN!

We spent a year together chatting about all things pregnancy and baby...

...we've tried and tested countless baby products...

...exchanged hundreds of tips...

...talked about all the big things in life, all the little things, the good times and the tough times...

...we had a good laugh together 😁...

...and somehow we now have gorgeous 3 month old babies without looking a day older ourselves 😅 (must be that good laugh!)

@Ready2020 hope they work tonight! And yay for the sleep in, sounds lovely!!

@Magik01 yeh, pain you’ll need to, in the meantime high tog sleeping bag and lots of blankets!

This made me cry happy tears: www.instagram.com/reel/CW4dmyzIihl/?utm_medium=copy_link type of thing that I’d have smiled at before but post baby make me a wreck!

BertieBotts · 01/12/2021 20:27

I do tuck blankets down inside the footmuff as it's a universal one that does up to toddler age so there's lots of space around him in it. I tend to just do normal inside clothes plus a hoodie (I have a knitted gap one which is a fave) and hat. The footmuff is kind of a replacement for the pram suit really.

Daffodil21 · 01/12/2021 20:36

Thank you all for the book suggestions, lots to look up!

We got a footmuff with our push chair but it's really awkward to attach and DS keeps kicking it off so I've given up! Sometimes I put I'm in a pram suit and sometimes with a blanket and hat as well, sometimes his fleece lined coat and a blanket. I went for coat and blanket today as I was going in and out of shops so was worried he might overheat in the pramsuit?

Inmypjsagain · 01/12/2021 21:09

Thanks re footmuff! I’m going to need to figure it out, it’s a bugaboo winter one so it comes with an extra down liner, so it’s probably warm enough. I’ll take spare blankets with me when I next go out and see how he feels. As it’s December he can officially start wearing his Christmas pudding hat 🎅🏼 🎄 ⭐️

Did everyone do 3 calpol doses after 16 week jabs?

Smurf123 · 01/12/2021 22:01

It's been 5 hours since dd has had any but she's asleep so wondering if I should wake her and give it or just let her sleep. She has had 2 doses today already

PurplePansy05 · 01/12/2021 22:30

@Smurf123 I did 5 or 6 doses across two days after, he was pretty bad. It worked out as a dose every 6 hrs for us. It was weird because the fever didn't develop until good 8-10 hrs after the jabs, I initially thought he was fine but definitely wasn't.

We had HV today and he weighs and measures very similar to Rowan @Ready2020, he's 13 lbs 8 oz and 63cm so yes, they seem fairly average. xx

OP posts:
Smurf123 · 01/12/2021 22:36

Thanks @PurplePansy05 she got the vaccines at about 12 but first dose of calpol was about 1245 then again at 515 so it's not quite the 6 hours but we aren't far off it now.
With the 8 weeks jab the nurse had said to wake her if necessarily to make sure she got the 3 doses but today different nurse just said make sure you give a dose when you get home so just trying to figure out whether to lift her or not. If I lift her she's likely to wake up wanting a marathon feeding session

PurplePansy05 · 01/12/2021 22:43

@Smurf123 The advice I was given was if they sleep, don't wake them, give another dose once they wake up as long as it's min 4 hrs after the last one (and not to exceed the total of 4 doses in any 24 hrs) xx

OK I'll let her sleep then she seems content and it's the first time in about 2 weeks shed actually getting some sleep without a stuffy mode bothering her!
Hope Leo recovered OK from his jabs now?

Smurf123 · 01/12/2021 22:48

@PurplePansy05 thanks for the link that's really helpful thanks!

PurplePansy05 · 01/12/2021 23:08

He's ok now, thanks @Smurf123, although I must say the last fortnight was challenging with the jabs, 4 month leap/sleep regression, teething and poo stories - we've had it all from clay poop (slight constipation) to a full on bout of diarrhoea (thankfully gone now!). His digestive system must have gone through some kind of adjustment. I didn't know if we were coming or going tbh but he's been my happy baby today again and very curious of the world, so I welcome this with open arms! He gave me a proper cuddle today too and reached out to touch my face when I was next to him and my heart melted into a giant puddle 😭❤

Also @Daffodil21 @Magik01 I've asked my HV for a MH referral and I'll be getting a call next week to move things forward. She was so kind and even gave me a hug (which was probably very inappropriate in the covid era, but just so very human and felt great). Thank you for giving me the kick needed for this to happen. xx

Aww @PurplePansy05 reaching out to you that's very cute!! Yes we are with you with the 4 month regression and teething also plus the cold now jabs 🙈 well she slept until about 20 mins ago so she's had calpol now and now having a feed. Though she's not particularly happy as it was ds that woke everyone up.. Clearly having a dream as he was in floods of real tears because someone ate his toast apparently 🙈 I promise we do feed the child but no I was not making him fresh toast for bed at midnight! Thankfully he soon woke up enough to listen to reason and is now listening to his audiobook in bed.

Well done for asking for the mh support I hope it helps!

lucyrp · 02/12/2021 02:21

@Inmypjsagain we have a seat liner in oirs which is sheepskin so DD usually has a jacket/coat on over her clothes then we put a blanket over her feet etc then pull the foot muff up over. It depends what kind of foot muff you have. If you have the fleecy kind then you could miss the blanket but ours is just the material foot muff that you usually get with the system and don't buy separately. Xx

wimbler · 02/12/2021 06:59

I think the carrier thing is like most things. Use common sense. Advice is there for obvious reason but as long as you are careful personally I don’t see anything wrong with ds wearing a fleecy onesie in the carrier. I wouldn’t go full blown padded snowsuit unless it was really very cold but this past weekend when it was hovering around 0 degrees I put him in it in his fleecy snowsuit. He was fine and we were outside the whole time.

I was freezing however as my coat doesn’t do up around the Carrier!

Daffodil21 · 02/12/2021 07:31

@PurplePansy05 that's great. Well done for making that step. I'm glad it was well received as well. I still haven't heard back, it's meant to be max 3 weeks and it's been 2 so I guess there's still plenty of time. They say they call you 3 times from an unknown number and if no answer by call 3 they leave you a message and send you an email, then write you off if no response. I had two missed called one minute apart about a week ago so I'm wondering if that was them and they haven't realised they haven't called me a third time (not sure two calls one minute apart counts as two calls though!).

PurplePansy05 · 02/12/2021 08:06

@Daffodil21 Thanks lovely. Call your HV/GP to enquire and explain maybe? Just so you don't have to start afresh?

Also yesterday I had a different HV as mine was on leave. She was actually better and nicer and she's Scottish - which made me smile when I recalled our chat on here, just that little unexpected connection. Fabulous accent too, she sounds exactly like Tosh from Shetland if you've watched the series. xx

@lucyrp thank you- www.bugaboo.com/gb-en/bee-6-accessories/bugaboo-high-performance-footmuffplus-stellar--steel-blue-80214MB01.html we got this one and it’s lovely!!!! So comfy. It’s fleece lined and has a down insert, you can squish to the top bit to make a hood. I’ll layer him and then keep an eye on his temperature, it’s just annoying because the shops are so hot but outside so cold! How is everyone doing after the A and E trip?

@PurplePansy05 interesting you say about poos, we’ve had runny poos and then near constipation poos and it doesn’t make sense to me why! I thought it was a bug or something but I wonder if digestion changes at this age? Glad you’ve reached out for help and hope the support you get is good x

Magik01 · 02/12/2021 11:50

@PurplePansy05 so glad you’ve reached out and asked for help. Do you feel like a weight has been lifted?

If anyone wants some trash TV to watch- selling sunsets has a new series out!

PurplePansy05 · 02/12/2021 12:03

@Inmypjsagain I think it could be a bit of both tbh, maybe aa bug, but I've noticed a difference in him, I said earlier he bf more efficiently but he's also less sick, he barely spits anything out now and we haven't had any incidents of projectile vomiting for several weeks. So my theory is his digestive system is maturing and there's a marked improvement in reflux issues. I think they can go from one extreme to another poo-wise as this is happening before it settles. He's absolutely fine today again, fingers crossed we're out of the woods 🙏

@Magik01 Yes, a bit better now I've opened up. Just hope it leads to something helpful, I feel CBT would help. How are you now? xx

OP posts:
Inmypjsagain · 02/12/2021 12:08

@PurplePansy05 I thought we turned a corner with reflux but then last week the projectile spewing started again so who knows 🤷🏼‍♀️ glad to hear all better now so got my fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼

@Magik01 already watched it 😂 Christine 2 weeks after birth looked insane! How did she do it?!!

Magik01 · 02/12/2021 15:15

@Inmypjsagain probably a paid nanny who literally does everything for her! 😂

@PurplePansy05 I’m doing okay! Had a bit of a nightmare few weeks where everything was breaking- boiler went, then the door wouldn’t lock and needed fixing then DH car broke (literally the day after we spent £400 fixing a different problem with it!!) so felt quite overwhelmed.

Comes in threes I guess, we have now found another car so that’s all good, and managed to get the money back from the boiler from the home emergency cover I have. But you know when everything happens at once and your just like arghhhhhh.

Also the other day I was fuming at DH, he ended up buying me flowers but I had two days where I just cried. I’m okay now though 😂 Just felt like I was doing EVERYTHING in the house, and putting everyone else first and not thinking about myself.

How is everyone else doing? Do we have any teeth yet?! And rollers? Isaac has done none of them lol.

Inmypjsagain · 02/12/2021 15:30

@Magik01 😂 nanny probably but she had abs!!! 4 months after birth and I’m still squishy!!!! Ha! Sorry to hear you’ve had a stressful time, hopefully through the worst of it now? Why do things always have to come in 3s?!

We have lots of rolling going on here, he’s sitting up alot too, probably for a good 5 minutes before he flops on his side. No teeth- lots of drool, pink cheeks and stuff but think it’s probably a bit early for teething? Maybe not 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t why I always thought teeth arrived a lot later?

PurplePansy05 · 02/12/2021 17:20

@Magik01 I so know that feeling you're describing. And sounds like a right nightmare with things going wrong, you're right, it's never just one thing, is it. I feel my tolerance is wearing thin when things go wrong!

@Inmypjsagain I think he's teething, all the signs are there but no teeth in sight yet. He also rolled over a fortnight ago and not since, although he holds his head and can lift his head and upper chest off the changing mat nicely. Definitely can't sit for 5 mins though, he still needs support and slumps quite quickly. Your DS is really tall though from what you said, this probably helps him? Leo is now average size but still has long legs.

Does anyone else feels like you now do endless cleaning/tidying up/washing and yet the house never looks great and there is always a pile of washing still to do? I'm so fed up, I feel defeated all the time 🙄 xx
