Yes probably wise to avoid those types of carrier in that case. But if baby has normal hip development then they're not going to do any harm. People got really snobby about those kinds of carriers a few years ago :o personally I find that they tend to be uncomfortable. But that's really personal preference.

I'm so tempted to put the heating on already 😦 anyone else?

PurplePansy05 · 09/10/2021 21:48

I have heating on @BertieBotts Grin First/second weekend of October is when I'm officially allowed to put it on and DH doesn't complain Grin

Thanks all for the baby parking thoughts. I actually don't know what I'm asking about, I have the Bjorn bouncer which I'm told should be ok until roughly 7 months old, although DS is tall, so we'll see. I just don't know where to park him after that 🤣 thought TT would be good. I will definitely buy a playpen at some point too, so he should be able to play there under my supervision, I think my pets will stay away from it.

@Magik01 Flowers I'm sorry to hear you've had a panic attack. Virtual hugs Flowers Sorry if it's obvious but have you tried warming up the milk under hot water to room temp? My DS won't touch my milk straight from the fridge. Just a thought, but it sounds more like a teat problem xx

@BertieBotts we started putting out heating on a couple of weeks ago 😂

sarah13xx · 10/10/2021 00:34

@notinthestarsigns my push chair seat is the same and I have a nice fleecey footmuff for it so I’m going to use it in lie flat mode when it’s really cold! I fear the dog may take more notice of him in that, right now he walks beside the pram but doesn’t take any interest in it.

sarah13xx · 10/10/2021 00:35

Thanks to whoever said about aldi doing premium nappies. They do indeed and they have the colour changing stripe on them in size 3! Not even 50p more so going to get them instead now 😊

lucyrp · 10/10/2021 04:33

What are we talking about in terms of legs in carriers ?? Never knew that you could have legs in? And now I'm worried as we have a baby bjorn mini and have used a couple of times but DD has had to go for a hip scan and we are going back for a rescan. Maybe I shouldn't use it ?

@sarah13xx I think with the nappies sometimes you have to swap and change as they grow. I remember with my eldest we used normal Aldi ones then the premium ones then had to go to Pampers then back to normal aldi ones. Currently we're on the normal aldi ones but we're on the premium ones before🙈

Ready2020 · 10/10/2021 04:51

In that light sleep babies have in the morning, if they see are awake ish but not crying can I presume not hungry? And just ignore then? I've been picking up and giving a feed and trying to resettle. But she's not crying out for the feed so I wonder if I'm just getting her into the habit of it rather then her needing it.

Smurf123 · 10/10/2021 05:00

@Ready2020 I'm not sure.. I try to ignore for a little while but I've just lifted dd for a feed and resettle too she wasn't crying as such but tossing and turning and the odd wee cry like literally single small noise then looking like back asleep and settled for a minute or 2 before being unsettled again. But she hasn't feed done 9pm either so I'm hoping this just helps her style for a couple more hours of settled also. Was wondering the same though as whether to lift her or wait.

Ready2020 · 10/10/2021 05:05

Hmm see DD fed at 1am. I've left her as her eyes are closed now. I gave her dummy which I think settled her though she's spat it out.

She seemed to settle when I was sitting near her and opened the side of the snuz pod. I really think it's too narrow for her as soon as I opened it she stretched her arm out.

Hmm
PurplePansy05 · 10/10/2021 05:12

Hello to the 5am club 👋

@sarah13xx I doubt your DS will be bog enough/wriggly enough in the footmuff for the dog to be very interested in him now, he'll probs sniff around and then ignore. Once DS is bigger/it gets warmer, he'll be used to the new seat. Are you switch because the baby is tall for the carrycot? I'd probably get your other seat out and into position before you start using it on walks so the dog can familiatise itself with it at home first. I reckon you'll be totally fine.

What are these carriers where you put the legs in and the M position? I have zero imagination sorry, does anyone have a photo/illustration? xx

See now DD is silent and not even doing the usual rolling about so I'm inclined to go prod her to make sure she's breathing!

I'm going to get a photo of DD in her 2 carriers I have and post them here as I'm confused too!

www.tuttibambini.com/nova-birth-to-12-years-complete-highchair-package-black-black.html

I've just come across this high chair in our early morning feed which looks interesting!

BertieBotts · 10/10/2021 07:23

It depends on your carrier, some of the newer Ergo ones for example are legs out right from birth.

This is a good demonstration of the M position (named because the knees are higher than hips)

sheenslings.com/2018/01/14/the-myth-of-the-bad-carrier/

More wordy but the Hip Dysplasia society's take on it (they say you can use narrow based carriers for short periods even if your baby has hip problems)

hipdysplasia.org/baby-carriers-other-equipment/

This explains the in/out thing - it seems it's probably outdated, which would explain why it floats around the internat without being properly explained.

wrapyourbaby.com/newborn-legs-in-or-out/

Now I think about it, I never had DS1 legs in but DS3 was really curled up for his first few days so he did seem to fit better with legs in. This was in a stretchy wrap.

dirtyfries · 10/10/2021 07:43

@Ready2020 @Smurf123 ref the grunty early hours

Out of desperation I co slept all last night. DD had been awake for 13 hours in the day Shock with only 5 minute cat naps here and there. We were all exhausted.

Whether it was the bed sharing or complete exhaustion, we didn't have any flailing or grunting at all. It meant we all slept better. She still woke at her usual times in the night to feed but rather than being awake for the day at 5am she went back to sleep (and is still down!)

Co sleeping really wasn't a route I wanted to go down but there comes a point where sleep is the priority over freedom.
I'll report back as to whether the grunting returns tonight 😂

biscuitcat · 10/10/2021 08:18

Is there a way to safely put babies in the pram seat rather than the carrycot if they're under 6 months? DS isn't very happy in the carrycot if he's awake which is a pain so the seat would be really handy!

We took Rowan on his first flight yesterday! Apart from the taxi out to the runway, where he screamed bloody murder for about 15 minutes, he was amazing! As soon as the plane took off he just chilled. Though got grouchy again in the car when we arrived as my in laws were so hopeless that we faffed for ages and he got overtired instead of sleeping in his car seat 🙄 AND he slept from 9:30/10-ish until 5:30! Amazing, I feel like a new woman! I'd love to think it's a new era of sleeping through but it's probably just because yesterday was so busy

BertieBotts · 10/10/2021 08:18

Oh I came to report back that Pampers (the sensitive variety can't remember full name) in size 3 have the wetness indicator.

I don't think any brand have this past size 3 though I can't be 100% sure. But really you only need it when they are tiny as you get to know what a wet nappy feels or looks like.

Maybe I'm being grumpy but there is no way that Tutti Bambini chair would be used by a 12yo (or anyone over about 3) it looks too flimsy. Weight limit of 15kg isn't very high (my 3yo is 16kg) and IME once children have associated a chair as being a high chair/baby chair they stop wanting to use it. The Tripp Trapp types don't quite have the same stigma because they look like normal chairs.

BertieBotts · 10/10/2021 08:21

Depends what pram you have biscuit - does it lie flat? If it lies flat you can use it any time, you don't need to wait until 6 months. If it's one of those moulded seats prob best to wait until 3/4 months or so.

lucyrp · 10/10/2021 08:40

How does a TT work as a normal chair as the seat part looks far too hard and small for a child's bum to actually sit on ?

lucyrp · 10/10/2021 08:42

For anyone interested aldi seemed to have their version available again but only online. £52! www.aldi.co.uk/mamia-grey-wooden-highchair/p/703539512117200

sarah13xx · 10/10/2021 09:08

@PurplePansy05 he is very tall, he was 62cm last week so I don’t think he’s got much room left in the carrycot but going to keep using it til we’re right into the winter and once it’s cold I’ll use the seat. Yes I’ll need to, he might not even notice it or will pay more attention when he’s actually sitting up in it making noises 🙈

I have the ergobaby carrier and it has the m shaped leg thing. It just means his bum sinks down into the carrier like a little seat and his legs come up and out so it sort of looks like an m from the front

sarah13xx · 10/10/2021 09:09

@BertieBotts the aldi normal ones (which I thought was the only ones they did) only have the wetness indicator in sizes 1 and 2 but the premium ones have it in 3 as well 😊 they also don’t seem quite as big and baggy as the non premium version but it’s hard to tell

PurplePansy05 · 10/10/2021 09:17

@biscuitcat Some brands do stroller inserts which make them suitable from newborn or at least they're good for the transition period when your baby grows out of the carrycot. I've just been looking it up after @sarah13xx posts as we're likely going to be in the same position. Although I am going to leave buying another item until he is actually getting close to outgrowing the carrycot. I'm hoping if we make it till Christmas he'll be 5 months old and I'll just switch him to stroller seat without any extra inserts, there's no point in buying them for a month of likely rubbish weather and short walks.

@lucyrp I was looking at that one from Aldi. Saw them on Marketplace and they don't seem as big as TT which makes me think they don't have TT's longevity? But it's a similar design, definitely xx

OP posts:
lucyrp · 10/10/2021 09:19

@sarah13xx the premium version is definitely shorter or smaller, which is why we've moved from the premium to the normal ones to bridge the gap between size 1 and 2

BertieBotts · 10/10/2021 10:04

Yes the Aldi, Hauck etc copies of trip trap last until about age 5 but don't have the full adjustability.

They do fit a child's bum fine and the wooden seat is no less comfy than a wooden dining chair or bench. You can get cushions for them but at some additional cost of course!
