Mucus from birth

Hi,

My son was born on Friday and is having trouble laying down/sleeping as he starts to gag/cough. Midwife has said it will be mucus left over from the birth as it was quite a quick one, we are trying to keep feeds up as much as possible to help 'flush' it either way and also doing loads of burping/winding but he's really struggling.

Has anyone had this with their new baby? How long realistically can it take to clear them?

I hope they have it right and it's not something else.

We had this with DS, I found it really worrying at first as I thought he was unwell but was assured this is quite common. From memory it lasted for about 5-6 days for us so it will hopefully clear up for you soon. Do check with your health visitor/ midwife if you're worried, they won't mind and should be able to ease any concerns you have Smile
