Hi everyone

My 7 week old hasn't slept properly from about a week old and isn't settled. Originally treated for colic then when nothing worked she was diagnosed with silent reflux (no tests or anything they just put her on gaviscon)

The gaviscon the first night worked amazing, she slept for 7 hours! Then the next night wasn't so good, then the next day worse then back to normal!

She's now on day 6 of omeprazole and she is screaming in pain at night and I can hear the big bubbles in her stomach. She arches her back and screams that much she can barely breathe, I'm obviously heartbroken and writing this in tears I hate seeing her like this.

Doctors have said I need to give this 2 weeks to kick in.. I can't do it. I feel so helpless.

I've now been diagnosed with post natal depression because of this and I've had 3 hours sleep in 3 days. I am desperate for some answers can anyone help or advise?

She isn't sick after feeding or worse after a bottle and it's all at night time 💔💔💔

Hi,

We had the same issue with our little boy. At 4 weeks something changed and whenever he was awake he would cry in pain. His legs would curl up to his stomach, cry until he was red in the face and couldn't breath and produce real tears. We tried comfort formula thinking he could be colicy, infacol, colief infant drops, we also tried a different brand of formula. The gp then prescribed gaviscon which made him worse and wouldn't poo as often.

We eventually spoke to the paediatric ward at our local hospital and without even seeing him they said the symptoms described sounded like he was either lactose intolerant or allergic to cows milk and said to get the gp to prescribe cows free milk.

We have been using it for about 2 weeks now and have seen a massive improvement. His cries are not a cry in pain anymore, more like demanding something now. We have also been referred to a dietician to see whether the formula is best for him so we'll see how that goes.

My husband and I were pulling our hair out and really not enjoying our baby to the point we were upset, tired and didn't want to leave the house. Unfortunately because babies can't talk, they can't tell you what's wrong and rely on us noticing their symptoms and it is a trial and error until we find the best solution to have a happy and comfortable baby. I would definitely keep going back to the gp until you get the right solution and hang in there, it will get better.
