CHOLESTASIS POST PREGNANCY???

DS 2 is 5 months now. Both pregnancies i had cholestasis and i have always been told it is only a pregnancy thing and once you've had the baby there are no further problems.

I am now being sent for further tests and scans to see why my LFTs are still abnormally high 5 months post pregnancy??

Has anyone heard of this or had this?? What could it mean?

Is LFT liver function test? If so, which test results are high?

NOt sure is it the ASTs i mean, i still don't understand it all 2 babies later?

One level is usually about 20's for me but is in high 40's at the moment.

Something else which i think he said gamma G?? is in 100's when shoul be between 7-10???

That result is less of a worry tho it's the first result that is more of a concern??

Does any of that makes sense??

I must first say that I am not a health professional.

AST - tells you how many of your liver cells are dieing off. For children the normal range is 1-50. We all have liver cells dieing off as the liver is a regenerative organ.

Gamma GT - I don't know too much about this, but I believe it can often point to specific part of the liver that isn't happy, and I have a feeling it is the bile ducts - which would tie in with the cholestasis.

The scan will be able to check the bloodflow to and from the liver and will be able to check the bile ducts.

I don't know anything about cholestasis, so I can't be anymore particular than that. Do you have your appointments soon?

been reffered but being NHS who knows. Doctor says it should hopefully be sooner rather than later. Thanks for that advice, i feel very ignorant to have my body go through something that i haven't even bothered to investigate into further so that i understand it.
