evenin' all. Hope you have all been out enjoying the sunshine.

DS and DD both slept 12 hours again, but YET again, I was awake all night. Have a raging sore throat and fever - sod it!

We all went to the lake to feed the ducks, lunch, snooze then we all went swimming. Hope it is ok to take dd into pool at 5 months, I'm sure we took ds earlier than that though.

Why do we need a car packed to the brim just to take two trips?
Finished up with burgers, as we had free vouchers, but they were so stingy.

mmk · 15/09/2007 19:51

I know some folks are totally into re-usable nappies, but I can't face the hassle, even though i'm dying to be convinced. Are they really better?

StealthPolarBear · 15/09/2007 19:54

mmk, sorry to hear you're ill
sure nutty will be on soon to convince you of the benefits, she's always trying to convert me!! I know she's right and if I could be bothered i would do it - just too lazy

weeonion · 15/09/2007 19:56

mmk - i love mine and have tried out a load of different types to see which i like best. i think they hold poo better - definitely noticed this on days out when we have had to use disposables.

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:09

oh don't anyone mention poo! ds (5 months) made her first trip to the swimming pool today, and totally disgraced herself. We had one of ds old swim nappies on her, but she discharged a bum bomb, and it shot out the side, only to be caught by the elastic....I was left standing there, dh and ds on the other side of the pool, no spare hands, just wondering what to do.

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:09

I'M HERE I'M HERE

mmk - Reusables are fab. Great at containing poo. No more work really tbh. I find I can get away with about 2 washes per week (I do a wash every 3 days - tho with the many many nappies I've got I could probably last a week ). Even with my total addiction to buying them they are still cheaper than disposables. Erin's bum looks sooooo cute in them. I get quite a few comments when we're out and about too. People are always saying how lovely they are. DH manages them perfectly well too. If you do fancy giving them a go and want to know any more about them feel free to email me hazeldover81 "at" hotmail.com (That goes for any of you )

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:10

wo do you agree with mumsnet on which are the best? which do you prefer? what about all the washing and drying?
I did think it would be better for ds to wear re-usable at night, since I know disposables have all sorts of terrible things in the gel.

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:11

OMG I've just realised I could actually go 2 weeks with all the nappies I have

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:14

mmk - I have a tumble dryer that I can use. You can also line dry them or over an airer. If you don't have many drying facilities it's best to go for a quick drying nappy, such as one made from microfibre (fluffles and bambinex teddys). If you have good drying facilities then bamboo is a lovely fabric and very environmentally friendly too. For reliability I find Motherease Sandy's best.

I should probably point out I tend to use 2-part nappies (ones which need a wrap). Best wraps are Motherease rikki or motherease airflow, tho I find Nature Babies wraps suit Erin very well.

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:14

ds has the cutest, fatest botty ever, so she will look as cute as ever in re-usables, hadn't thought of that.

liath · 15/09/2007 20:14

Impossible to beat cloth for poo containment IMHO - both mine are in cloth and it really isn't too much hassle. Ds does some really explosive poops and I haven't had a single leak in cloth. Dd is in a dispicable overnight but I'm quite proud of myself that ds is also in cloth at night too. He's never had nappy rash yet either.

Ooh, I love my nappies

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:16

What I mean by reliability is that the Motherease Sandys are very flexible with the fit (poppers to adjust the leg fitting and poppers to adjust the waist iyswim so they always give a good fit thus no chance of leaks.

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:16

thank you nappy, your advice is really helpful. Do you find that the legholes make sore marks on the babies legs?

weeonion · 15/09/2007 20:17

nappynutty, CD, maveta, liath and octo will be along to give their votes as well. sorry to have missed any other clothies out! no doubt there is loads more - please dont be offended!

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:18

The main downside of reusables is that when you get as addicted as me you'll do silly things like buy a nappy at a baby show and in the car park go "I've got a new nappy, wowieeeee, it's so cute and snuggly, I just want to cuddle it" and attract strange looks

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:18

ha ha! choice of poppers, that will confuse poor old dh. He is the only one I know that can get a baby vest on back to front, or do the poppers up in reverse.

weeonion · 15/09/2007 20:19

xposted - i knew cloth chat would bring them running!!!

liath · 15/09/2007 20:19

I love sandys too, my favourite. Bamboozles are very good overnight and fluffles are so cute. I don't find the wrap marks the legs - use a motherease wrap & they are very good.

Weeonion - how much do you want for the sleeping bags - I'd be interested in the 2.5 tog one and one of the mothercare 1 tog ones??

weeonion · 15/09/2007 20:21

i agree - dd has never had nappy rash! no really bad marks on legs - it all depends on teh wrap i find and how tightly you do it up. dd is in a cloth overnight - lasts 10hrs with no leaks / dampness. my favs - hmmmmmmmm - cuddlebuns at the mo - for cuteness but i like kooshies at night with boosters.

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:21

WO how funny! I had no idea there were so many clothies.

It will be nice to buy something for d. All our baby stuff is from ds, and we got sackloads of clothes. I'm dying to buy some baby stuff, so nappies it is.

Of course, one of you will have to come and take dh through it step by step. he is the most wonderful father to our children, but he only knows disposables...

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:21

Regarding the legs, the nappy part never leaves marks. I do sometimes find the wrap does but I think it's more how dh fastens them!

weeonion · 15/09/2007 20:21

liath - u want to email me??

mmk · 15/09/2007 20:25

right {{{ wanders off to make a table of recomendations, then to find a suitable website flogging aforementioned gear)

How is our Ancient Greek scholar doing tonight?

I bet lots of you out there have fascinating stuff to tell, so come on, don't be shy

nappynuttynormabutty · 15/09/2007 20:25

A lot of people find dhs prefer pocket nappies (basically it's an all-in-one nappy which you stuff to increase the absorbancy) as you can stuff them all once they're dry and then they are just like using a dispoable in terms of fastening them etc. I find a 2 part nappy is more reliable tho and would compare it to putting 2 disposables on...a nappy and a waterproof iyswim.

liath · 15/09/2007 20:25

Will do WO, tonight or in the morning!

MMK some men do require a lot of training in the Mysteries of Cloth. DH is pretty good but still inclined to want to use disposibles if we're out and about. He's a bit sqeaming about dealing with poo but is keen from the environmental & money-saving point of view.
