Won't let me put him down!

My ds is 5 weeks old today and I'm at my wits end as he screams whenever he's put down. I've tried lying him down to sleep and he screams, I've tried holding him til he falls asleep and then putting him down - the minute I do, his eyes ping open and he's wide awake again. He just fights sleep constantly to the point he's overtired, pulling at his ears and really upset. I've tried everything but nothing seems to work. Don't get me wrong I love holding him but I have another child and things I need to do so I can't hold him all day every day.
Does anyone have any suggestions before i totally lose my mind?
Thanks

Sounds difficult! Could you get a sling?

My LO screamed blue murder when she used to get put in her bouncer. It took time but I had to have a shower and place her in it. They get used to it, it’s not a pleasant learning curve but they get there.

Hi, persistence is the key. I’ve had the exact same with my now 5 month old.
Firstly, don’t forget he is only tiny still so he would much prefer to be next to his Mummy. (Worth googling 4th trimester if you haven’t already)
The sling will definitely help.
Secondly, babies have a Moro reflex which startle them when they feel like they are falling. It’s a protective measure from Mother Nature and means some will wake just from the action of lowering in to a cot/crib. Until they start to roll, swaddling is good and tends to prevent it kicking in.
Thirdly, one thing I find helps is white noise. There is a 10 hour vacuum video on YouTube, works a treat on mine. Replicates the white noise baby was used to in the womb which is comforting to them.
It’s hard with your second because you NEED them to give you that time. I definitely think the sling will be a game changer xx Good luck, I know how exasperated you must feel.

Coming to this post a bit late, but I wondered if @ifeeltheneedtheneedforsleep had seen any improvements since you made this post? Would be really interested to hear how things change as I currently have a 5 week old baby with a similar issue . X
