Pain in one breast - breastfeeding

Today I fed my 8 week old from one breast and then he wasn't hungry for a while/wouldn't feed from the other so it filled up quite a lot. It became really painful, almost like engorgement pain, but only in some spots. Even after he eventually fed from it and the pain reduced, it's still there. I couldn't even pick him up as everytime I touch my breast it hurts. I can't feel any lumps or swelling. What could this be? How can I fix it?

Mastitis? Do you have any red/warm patches on your breast? Just make sure you keep feeding your baby from that side, make sure that its empty (express if you need to). If it's still painful tomorrow, give your GP a call. Mastitis can be really horrible, you may need antibiotics if it carries on.

I had something similar HV said it was a blocked milk duct. Although it hurts try to still feed him from that side as frequently emptying is the only way to get rid of it.

I had this when my baby didnt feed for while after jabs. Could be a blocked duct. Make a gp appointment in case it turns into mastitis but there are a few things you can try too. I had a really hot bath, make sure its deep enough to submerge your boob! Give it as long as you can and then give your boob a good massage all over concentrating on the sore part, I used some massage oil as well to make it easier. Then try to express or pump as much as you can. I found that it did the trick for me and the pain went before turning into mastitis. Good luck!

When massaging try and start from the outside of your boob, before the sore bit, and work your way in towards the nipple
