Baby screaming after baby gaviscon

Hi we were given baby gaviscon today by the doctor for our 6 week old who has reflux.

I just gave one sachet in 4oz and he is screaming in agony. Has anyone else had this?

Hi. We use gaviscon but haven’t ever had that. Bless him.

Are you putting it in every feed? as you need to. And give it a really good shake.

I’d call your HV / gp as you may need to up it to two sachets per feed.

Hi, yes I agree with @Gettingonabitnow, you may need an increase. I’m sure I remember with my DD that it can take a bit of time to start working too (which I could never understand because adult Gaviscon is immediate).
It might mean that you need something stronger. GP’s use Gaviscon as a starting point because it’s gentle but after 12 weeks they might consider omeprazole instead. I got the impression from DD and DS that Gaviscon may not taste too great as neither took it too well at first but it got better over time.
I also tried Infacol before a feed incase they had a bit of gas in their tummies. It’s awful because it’s trial and error and exasperating when you are in the middle of it.
Long term, I took DS to an osteopath but can’t do that at the moment with DD obviously because of the Coronavirus xx

@LouH1981 we actually switched to anti reflux formula the next day and it solved everything! Was amazing!
