Just putting this on in case anyone wants to catch up? We're all at different stages, so might be able to help each other out?

@Delilah7 @RanchoRelaxo @MrsR16 @thumper59 @trashkitten10 @Bostonfern @crossfitgirl sorry I know I'm missing people, I'm blaming newborn brain!

I'll leave the link on the 'pregnancy' catching up thread xxx

@Fivebyfive2 he was super happy this morning, but we've gone a bit downhill. I think his teeth are really hurting him today... he's just had calpol so hopefully that'll help him settle for his mid-morning nap!

Aw, that doesn't sound fun at all! What time did he manage to get down? Thank goodness he was just awake though - crying in the middle of the night seems to be 10 times louder than it really is!

purplefig · 07/05/2020 14:00

@MrsEG ooo blackout blinds, hadn't thought of that one! I'll see how she goes and then maybe look into it. Just keen to avoid buying MORE baby stuff, I get suckered into everything damn thing Grin. Well done on cracking on with the DR programme - is it too soon to see any improvements? Your 3lb loss has really kicked by butt into action and I've made a little meal plan for next week so I'm not left grasping for the biscuits come 3pm. Glad it's not just M - she constantly has her whole bloody hand in her mouth. I got the funniest video of her today sucking on it and clearly wanting milk to come out Grin.

@Fivebyfive2 Yeah M was like that, but then she suddenly stopped and would only nap on us! Re: waiting until six months, you've just got to do whatever works for you. We're planning to keep M in our room overnight until 6 months, but she takes her day naps upstairs when I'm downstairs otherwise I just wake her up. Ahhh sorry to hear you had such a strange one with Joe's sleep last night - it's crazy making stuff isn't it?! Hopefully once his cold clears up he'll be back to business as usual. Can you get a nap today?

@MrsR16 sorr you're having a crap one, I think it's totally normal though. And a grizzly baby certainly doesn't help! How are you doing today? I've had a bit of a rubbish week and just starting to feel more like myself today.

Well after all my whinging about M forgetting how to sleep upstairs alone, I put her down half an hour ago and she's still asleep. Waahoooo!! I'm hoping it was just her going through leap 3 and we're back to normal now. Hope everyone is doing OK. xx

MrsR16 · 07/05/2020 15:06

@purplefig I'm not doing too great tbh! Could definitely be better... 🤦‍♀️ but I'll be alright 😊 I just get so upset that I don't know what's wrong with him at the moment. But it's just a phase and I'm sure he'll work it out soon enough! We also had the worst poonami since he's been born! 😂 it was horrendous haha!

Fivebyfive2 · 07/05/2020 15:36

@MrsR16, omg I think you and I might actually have the same baby!! On Tuesday he had a giant poonami and went again mid nappy change, I had to bath him by myself for the first time ever, it was an emergency dunking!! Joe's been so up and down since his jabs last month. His eyes, his cold, sleeping badly, fussy when feeding. Like you, it is really getting on top of me now. I'm sure us not seeing anyone isn't helping at all either. I'm trying to get in touch with a hv today to chat about everything; we weighed Joe on digital scales today by me getting on and then getting on with him. Not sure how accurate it is, but it looks like he's really not gaining enough. I'm wondering if I might need to change how we feed, maybe top up with bottles or even look at introducing food now he's starting to sit a, bit with support? I hope Ethan is OK this evening. Xxx

MrsR16 · 07/05/2020 16:39

@Fivebyfive2 oh hun! I'm sorry Joe's not doing too well either! However, you have made me feel slightly better in knowing that it's not just Ethan being out of sorts at the moment! Thank you 😊 I haven't weighed him since before lockdown... I really need to! We have some luggage scales somewhere... xxx

ELW85 · 08/05/2020 17:23

Hi all

Sorry I’ve been a bit MIA - long story short, the docs think Finn’s noises are normal but accept the silent reflux. The Gaviscon isn’t really working but as long as he’s gaining weight apparently it’s ok to let him be in screaming pain after every feed.
Fast forward to today and he’s not taking his full feed and is being super sleepy.
He’s in a leap week but part of me is terrified he’s giving up on feeding because of the pain.
DH clearly feels like he can’t win with me; worrying he’s comfort eating with pain and now worried he’s sleeping and not in apparent pain.
Someone talk some sense into me please!
I’m just so worried after the initial issue with feeding/weight gain. He’d done so well.
And after 4 dirty nappies yesterday; nothing today.

MrsEG · 08/05/2020 20:29

Hi gang! Rotten few days with the boys. I’m sure they’re teething - any other babies already been through it? They’re dribbling all the time, coughing, very very cranky and clingy. It’s just so unlike them both. Had such a trying day with them today, ended up giving them both calpol as they were just so unhappy. Joys!!

Also I got my COVID results back and it was negative! The test was such a weird experience, all run by the army. Good to know I’m okay though!

@ELW85 Ah hun. All I can say is those first 3 months are hard, Conor would cry all the time and I was so worried. He screamed before, during and after feeds. Fairly sure it was just colic now, and he’s just a screamer, but I was always so worried about him. And as I’ve mentioned before, Ruairí is a puker, was always congested, etc. I drove myself mad trying to figure out what was wrong with them and it turns out it was nothing. Obviously, you’re Mum and you know best and if you think there’s something up, stick with it. But it really could be maybe silent reflux, or just newborn colic - Conor literally only just stopped his constant crying like a week ago and it’s pissing started again this week with his teeth. It’s SO exhausting, I often would just sit and cry. Just looking at them like please, for the love of god, let me know what’s wrong. But they just grew out of it (well, for a week...)
If he’s gaining weight and feeding then, and of course only in my own experience, they’re okay. I’d worry about Conor a lot as he wasn’t nearly as hungry as Ruairí and while Ruairí was draining 6oz it’d take me an hour to get 3 in to Conor. But he still gained plenty of weight - babies all have different appetites. When are his jabs due? Maybe have a chat with the nurse then? I really hope he and importantly you are okay. I really remember it so well, all the worry after being in hospital for the feeding problems. It gets better!
Also nappies - after a few weeks of age docs don’t care if a baby goes 5 days without a poo. Conor will often have a day poop-less, just to unleash it all the following day!

@MrsR16 sounds like you’re really having a rough time. It’s just going on so long now, isn’t it? Sometimes I just cannot believe it’s happening. Hope you’re DH is looking after you lovely x

@Fivebyfive2 How is Joe doing? Are you able to see your HV for a weight check up?

@purplefig Oh god yeah I am just buying baby things constantly!! It’s ridiculous. How have you found M’s naps this week? The boys had been nailing it but the teething has taken us several steps back!!

Fivebyfive2 · 08/05/2020 21:06

Hi ladies!

@ELW85, I'll echo much of what @MrsEG said really, it's so hard to know in the early days if something is a full on problem or regular, but still distressing, newborn issues. Could it be trapped wind? Joe suffered with that until about 3 months, we gave infacol before every feed after a hv suggested it at his 6 week check and it really helped him. He used to wriggle and grunt something terrible in his sleep, I remember thinking he couldn't possibly be actually asleep! Again, it just kind of stopped at around 3 months. But if you do feel something isn't right, definitely keep asking questions and don't let people fob you off.

@MrsEG, so glad your test was negative! Must have been so strange with the army and all. It really is so weird to think our kids will probably be learning about this strange time at school one day?! How old are your boys now, just over 3 months? Generally it's a little early for teething, but you never know...one baby from my NCT group was born with a tooth! You could try the Nubby keys, they're good for chomping on, easy to hold and you can put them in the fridge for extra relief! Good luck! Oh and I'm also guilty of buying waaayyyy too much baby stuff, so glad it's not just me 😂

Joe saw the Dr yesterday just to check all is OK as his cough still hasn't quite cleared. All OK! He was going to weigh him, but them said 'looking at him, he's quite chunky so I think he's fine' I'm still going to chat to a hv next week for advice on weaning and possibly stopping breastfeeding around 6 months. Still not really sure on that, but figured I'll get as much advice /info as possible and then I can decide. In other news, Joe is still only able to roll front to back, but is loving trying to sit and also has made a few (rather feeble, but super cute) attempts at commando crawling!

@MrsR16, how are you today? Hope Ethan has let you have a breather!

@cupcakesandglitter @purplefig, how are you both doing?

@thumper59 @stormtrooperjulian, you ladies that are a bit ahead with babies on the move, when did you first start baby proofing?? Xx

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 09/05/2020 09:16

@ELW85 oh I hope you're getting on ok! Joy of being a mummy - you end up worrying about everything! Remember when we were pregnant and thought the worrying would stop when baby was here? 😂 you're doing an amazing job though and you should be proud of yourself!

@MrsEG it has been really rough over the last few days... I ended up calling 111 a couple of nights ago, because he was so upset and just wasn't really himself at all. They think he's suffering with colic, which is a pain as they don't suggest anything other than what we're already doing! However, he was much happier yesterday... until last night... he woke up at half 9 and stayed awake until we eventually got him down at gone midnight! He then kept waking up crying so neither DH nor I have had much sleep at all! 😂 it's a good job we can't do much at the moment! I'm glad the test came back negative - you could definitely do without that at the moment!

@Fivebyfive2 hopefully today will be better! My parents were on the verge of ignoring the guidelines and coming up to help me out - I was in such a state because I didn't know how to make Ethan feel better! It just absolutely all got on top of me. Last night, however, was the hardest night we've ever had with him! Very strange but he seems happy enough this morning. He had an incredible poo while having morning cuddles which means that my bedding is in the wash... 🤦‍♀️ massive poo explosion! Hehe! Joe's doing amazingly well! Ethan's still not interested in rolling over yet! Just wants to sit up all the time 🙈

MrsR16 · 09/05/2020 10:43

@Fivebyfive2 I tell lies... Ethan rolled from front to back this morning! Neither DH nor I saw it though - he's been practising in secret!! 😂 that's made me happy today!

Fivebyfive2 · 09/05/2020 11:06

@MrsR16, woooooo!! That's awesome 😀 I'm really sorry you've been having such a hard time recently. Thought we were in for an easy ish night, then Joe was wide awake 3 till almost 5!! His new favourite way to be calmed... Feeding from me whilst I walk him around 😕 I feel like I should be doing more to help him get back to self settling, but he wakes so often and sometimes it is hard enough to get him back to sleep with the crutches, I just don't have the energy to let him lie wide awake for however long only to need to help him get to sleep anyway... Does that make me a crap mum??? I feel like it does!!

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 09/05/2020 11:21

@Fivebyfive2 not at all!! You're not a crap mum - you're doing the best by Joe and that's all that matters 😊 I don't like letting Ethan cry it out at all so I sit and cuddle him until he's settled. I'll try and get him down before he actually falls asleep but sometimes that's just not possible! He won't want cuddles forever so I'm making the most of them while he does!

Fivebyfive2 · 09/05/2020 12:55

@MrsR16, same!! We'll get there, just try to do one day at a time. Hopefully it won't be too long before we can see family and get some more support.

In the meantime, here is Joe, fresh from his bath today 😀

@MrsEG, how are the boys doing?

@ELW85, hope you are doing OK!

@MrsR16, how was Ethan last night? Joe decided to be up from 1 till 3 and also had quick wake ups at 11 and 5.30 so I'm knackered again. He's a bit all over the place today, but not too bad. I'm not sure if this will help, but here are a few random things we try when Joe is going nuclear, maybe they could work with Ethan? Stripping him off; high risk because if it doesn't work I need to dress him while he is kicking off, but when it does work it's like he's instantly happy?! Put him on his back, lift his legs a bit so his knees are up and put the soles of his feet together; we call it Buddha Baby, it can calm Joe down sometimes and chanting 'Buddha Baby' makes him smile 😂 Carrying him on the shoulder; that works more for dh than me for some reason. Stroking his nose... Very random!

Are we all eagerly awaiting Boris at 7pm?!

OP posts:
MrsR16 · 10/05/2020 15:55

@Fivebyfive2 oh, look at little cheeky Joe!!

Thank god, Ethan actually slept through last night! I didn't hear him stir until 5, but he was still asleep until nearly 7! Joe's 1-3 stint doesn't sound fun, bless you! My poor sister had to deal with her LG waking from half 3 till half 5 this morning! Ethan's obviously been chatting to his cousin 😂

I will have to try Buddha Baby! 😂 should claim the rights to it haha! Ethan loves his nose being stroked... sends him to sleep when he's in a good mood!

I'm counting down till 7. Don't get me wrong, i do not want lockdown to be lifted because I think the British public will just take the mickey and we'll get a second peak. However, I would love if we were allowed to visit immediate family!

cupcakesandglitter · 10/05/2020 16:42

Hey @Fivebyfive2 thanks for thinking of me 😊 I'm doing okay thankyou - Dina is putting some weight on and I feel like I'm getting the hang of it all now (finally) she's smiled at me a couple of times but has refused to do it since 🤦🏻‍♀️ I can't believe she's already 7 weeks, the time really is flying... how're you doing? Joe is getting so big 🥺 hopefully he gets a better nights sleep tonight, does it seem to be improving? I'm with you on waiting for Boris!

@MrsR16 I'd like that too, I think a gentle lift like just family would be great (maybe even a friend 😂) but you're right, the more he lifts, the more people will just ruin it for everyone and then the numbers will increase all over again. Glad Ethan had a good nights sleep, how're you doing?

@ELW85 I'm really bad at keeping up on here but how're you doing? How's Finlay doing? Is he in his second leap now? X

@MrsEG @MrsR16 @purplefig how're you all doing? X

MrsR16 · 10/05/2020 16:49

@cupcakesandglitter oh, aren't smiles just the most amazing thing ever?!? How is Dina 7 weeks old already? We're doing ok! Feeling much more human than I did yesterday 😂 in actual fact, feeling much more human than I have for the past few days, which is wonderful! I'm glad you're ok! I still love having this group on here, even when I disappear for a while - the support's really good from all of you lovely ladies!

thumper59 · 11/05/2020 07:58

Morning ladies! Hope your all well, I've got really behind again!

OH is back at work again today so it's just me and Freddie again now. He was 6 months last Thursday! I can't believe how fast time is going.

@fivebyfive2 Freddie doesn't get too far, but he can spin himself around on his belly and rolls all over the place! So for now I just make sure the dogs are away from him if I'm not sat with him ( they're pretty good at doing this themselves 😂) and that nothing he can bump into or grab that he shouldn't is on the floor within reach, but not really had to change much yet! I have changed his changing table back to just a set of drawers though as he rolls about to much for me when on there!!

Fivebyfive2 · 11/05/2020 09:15

@thumper59, thanks I'm probably thinking too far ahead! Freddie is such a little dude 😎

Joe had his best night for literally weeks!! 8.30 till 5.30 with one wake up for a feed at 2am...he was back to sleep by 2.30 😀

OP posts:
thumper59 · 11/05/2020 10:19

@Fivebyfive2 they can cover some distance rolling both ways though! Freddie ends up at the other end of his cot upside down 😂 aw that's amazing go joe!! Hope it's the start of better nights for you

stormtrooperjulian · 11/05/2020 13:02

@Fivebyfive2 nice going on the sleep!

@thumper59 oh he's so cute! He looks so big now too

@MrsR16 sorry to hear about the colic, that must be really tough. He will grow out of it though, just get through it however you can

Dex is 7.5 months now, and he's learnt to crawl and to pull himself up in the last week. He's so active all the time, never stops moving. We spent last weekend baby proofing the house, fitting stairgates and cupboard locks etc. I'm really glad we bought a playpen a few weeks ago, it's really useful having somewhere safe to put him now he's mobile and constantly looking for things he's not allowed. He took my cat's food ball to play with the other morning, my cat wasn't impressed at his breakfast being stolen 😂

Fivebyfive2 · 12/05/2020 08:12

@stormtrooperjulian, that's amazing, go Dex... Now the fun really begins 😀😂

Joe slept OK last night, 7 till 6 with a wake up at 9 for a clean nappy and a feed, then again at 2 where he was up till gone 3,but we've had worse! He's 5 months today, I can't believe it!! He's doing very well with sitting, he can hold the position himself for a good few seconds before going forward and face planting! Always seems happy while he's at it too 😀 Hopefully he'll just get stronger and be able to sit up himself more and more as we go along. Haven't got a pic of him sitting independently yet, but here he is in his sofa corner this morning 😍

How's everyone doing today? Xx

@Fivebyfive2 Oh what a gorgeous sleepsuit! Glad you’re having some better sleeps! Check him out sitting up. The boys still have such wobbly heads haha!

@stormtrooperjulian 7.5 months where has that gone!! That’s it now he’s on the move - you’ll be moving everything off bottom shelves haha!

@thumper59 Ah Freddie is so gorgeous. Hope you did okay without OH yesterday!

@cupcakesandglitter 7 weeks already! Isn’t it mad how slow pregnancy could go at times and once they’re here you blink and the time just disappears!

@MrsR16 I hope you’re feeling better lovely?

Well what do we all think to Boris? I think these new ‘guidelines’ are just so confusing. I can’t see my parents at their own home but my cleaner can come back - my mum is my cleaner!! I felt so deflated yesterday. I just feel like I’m gonna spend my entire maternity leave in this weird limbo.

The boys are doing fab though! Conor is still a really colic-y baby he cries a LOT for no real reason. It was really, really getting to me the other day but I spoke to the GP who assured me they really do grow out of it. I just need to be patient and try not to lose my mind in the process haha! Thankfully Ruairí is the most chilled out placid baby ever.
They’re also sleeping great, we’ve had a few 7:30-7:30 recently. Conor will go all night no issues, Ruairí sometimes has a fuss around 4am but he’s easily settled again. I can’t believe how well they sleep. It makes all the difference on the really bad days!

Hope everyone is doing well x

thumper59 · 12/05/2020 09:20

@Fivebyfive2 aww he is so cute!! Yay for better nights. Freddie's are still a bit inconsistent and he is 6 months!!

@stormtrooperjulian he is such a big boy! Would love to know what he weighs now... a lot! Haha

@MrsEG It was ok thankyou! I too find it weird, and sooo contradicting. I don't see why it's ok for my OH to go back to work, but not ok for me to see my parents who haven't been out of the house except for shopping the same as us. Also that I could have a childminder/ nanny but Freddie can't see his grandparents 🤨 it seems to be just what suits them now - it's ok to get the economy moving but it's not ok to see family, it's very strange! But I will not be staying at home on my own until July that is a fact! I don't want to go to the park, I want to see my family! We are from a very small city in Yorkshire though, so maybe we just haven't seen the full effects of it like places like London etc I'm not sure!

Fivebyfive2 · 12/05/2020 10:29

Agree about Boris, it's kind of all over the place really. It's basically the worst of both worlds to me; go out as much as you want and return to work even if the safety policy is not worked out yet, but don't see family?! Rubbish ☹️

@MrsEG, glad the boys are sleeping well and hopefully Connor settles down soon, bless him.

Also, does anyone else bath the baby in the normal bath? Joe is getting a bit big / heavy /wriggly for the baby bath, so wondering if anyone has tips for using the main one, possibly bathing together? Only thing that worries me is our bathroom is really small so not much to manoeuvre!
