ok. meal. my gran organised it. i love my gran. we agonised for ages over where to go, decided that a pub where they said we could have the back room to ourselves would be best as then the boys could play without bothering people. My nephew is 2 next week. There are no places with indoor play within half hour drive, outdoor play decided against as my sister is a clean freak (nephew not allowed jam sandwiches as they make a mess). So I make up goodie bags for the boys and my niece who is 11mths. Toys, crayola magic colours, exciting things to keep children occupied. I take the booster seat for the chair as my sister has one but two children so gran asked if I would. It’s only in the cupboard anyway as we don’t need it at the moment. I give the goody bag to sis. She puts it on floor and doesn’t even look at it. Nephew takes one of matthews toys, I tell sis that there is one identical in the bag I gave her, I did that so they couldn’t argue. She says it’s fine, he has his own toys thank you very much. So then I get the seat out. I say that I have brought it for nephew to use when he goes back to granny’s house. Sis says no thank you, we have one. I say but granny said that they really both needed one. Sis says he was fine this morning we do not need it. I say well I’m sorry, gran asked me to bring it so I did. Getting angry by now.

I grin and bear it. Then I am talking to cous about why we chose to go there instead of somewhere with outdoor play. I say that we thought it would be ok as they could play on floor etc. sis butts in from opposite end of table, yes but nephew can’t sit and colour and play like matthew can. I say no, I understand that, that is why we are the only ones in this room and he is welcome to run around if he wants to.

The meal is fab, carvery excellent, everyone says so. Except sis. She moans to gran that the food was so bad she couldn’t eat it and it was very overpriced. They could have got far better in Swindon for less money.

Joma - is your sis a "happiness vampire"? You know one of those people who can suck the joy out of any situation. I have an aunty like this - hoping not to see her this week at gran's. I might say something I'll regret.
