My Dd has an obsession with shoes which is unfortunate as DD1 kicks hers off at the bottom of the stairs and they are always muddy. DD2 likes to lick them

Olihan · 24/10/2007 19:41

Hello, can't remember anything I read yesterday so I'm very sorry, this is going to be all me, me, me!

Had a fab holiday, first one where I've felt like I've had a bit of a break, rather than home life relocated to a different house, iykwim. Back to reality with a bump though as ds2 and dd both went down with a virus on the plane on the way home and spent 3 days a piece with very high temps, horribly snotty noses and all the disrupted nights that go along with bugs.

Then we took one of the cats to the vet for its boosters, I was moaning about the fact that we just couldn't seem to rid them of fleas this summer and he suggested that it was probably a problem in the house. Dd and I have been bitten terribly since we moved and I assumed it was mozzies but the vet said it was most likely fleas . It seems that the previous owners' dog has left us a little housewarming present in the shape of a hefty flea infestation so I've spent 2 days de-fleaing my house. Nice.

How many of you are itching now?

And to top it off, ds2 has developed oral thrush and passed it on to me, well my nips. So it's all fun and games in our house this week .

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 24/10/2007 19:43

olihan - Glad you had a nice break! We had fleas. get Acclaim flea spray and treat the whole house as well as the cat.

GodzillasHorriblyHairyBumcheek · 24/10/2007 19:49

Glad you enjoyed your break Oli...but for you about the fleas. Haven't owned a cat or dog since i moved out of my parents' house 13 years ago - but my mum at one stage was adamant that there was no need to de-flea our cat because she never had fleas. Until i insisted that she was being silly as i had seen them, and we had to de-flea the entire house . Not a pleasant experience.

Elibean · 24/10/2007 19:55

Ah, Oli, what a shame to have the good of the holiday followed by the pain in the wherever-they-bite of fleas! Glad the break was good, and hope the thrush and fleas go fast

FGS, another thing our dds have in common: throwing/licking shoes.

Thanks, Indith, you make me feel a teeny bit better about my lack of organization/time (though some of the other Facebookers have the same configuration of LOs as me, so I have no excuse, really).

I do love the way our crawlers/rollers do naughty things then beam - dd2 picks up small inedible crumbs of god knows what from the carpet (which is going to be steam cleaned on Monday, before anyone reports me to DSS) turns to grin at me, then crawls off at top speed still clutching her ill gotten gains. Impossible not to laugh, though

Olihan · 24/10/2007 20:15

Am LOLing at all the cheeky babies - isn't it amazing how much personality they have already? Ds2 is another shoe fetishist, and has developed a mean shriek and death grip when I try to take something off him!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 24/10/2007 20:19

Dd2 also rocks backwards and forwards in her booster seat when thirsty. A bit like Arthur Fowler used to do in Eastenders. She bangs her head on the back until you give her a drink.

Olihan · 24/10/2007 20:22

Margo, have found your facebook thingy.

accessorizewithbabysick · 24/10/2007 20:25

Oli fleas!I do feel a little itchy now...I remember ds1 getting bitten by a friend's dog when he was 7 mo and nursery wouldn't let him come until I had a dr's certificate stating it was fleas! Grrr.
FGS, milk sounds fine, I think they really pick up a heck of a lot of calcium from other sources eg cheese, spinach, figs and tofu all have more or less the same amount as milk. Hoummous is a good option too, I think as chickpeas are packed full of it. I do luv me hummus I do tesco organic, gorgeous!
DS2 has ear infection and came out in almighty rash all over his body today as a reaction so is on anti-b's and antihistamines. Still smiling though, bless.
Despite illness, I am finding this age wonderful, he's doing and discovering new things every day. I banged the baby piano with a stick, handed it to him, he did the same and the grin on his face .
FGS, I do kinda feel the same way about work, I feel frustrated I can't do more at work in many ways, I have to leave on time and the hours I can put in in the evening are limited after I've done all the chores etc (must go mop my dining room floor!). I found maternity leave great as I could spend loads of time with ds2 and then do all the chores once he was napping, now there's never any time so I do it whilst I've got both of them.

weirdbird · 25/10/2007 00:23

Have sent a message to Margo Sbeenplaying from me as well!

Calm and I are friends on facebook too, it makes me feel like we are still keeping up!

Oli, with 2 cats and 2 dogs I have to be really vigilant when it comes to fleas but we still occasionally get an outbreak. Its notnice. I would definately get the spray from the vets for the house. Its great.

Erm.... thats all I can remember reading about Its 6.45am and I have been awake since 5.45 and ds1 has been up several times in the night

He is another shoe licker and often picks up bits that my crappy hoover leaves behind
His favourite thing at the moment is crawling at top speed for the dtairs when one of the kids forgets to shut the stairgate

weirdbird · 25/10/2007 12:02

Magnolia - You have the male clone of my Hannah though we do have less kids to leave the stair gate open!

Would not be suprised if she grows up with a thing about shoes though, she just loves shoes and peoples feet..

OP posts:
magnolia74 · 25/10/2007 12:08

ds1 loves feet too but normally when he is trying to bite them!

Indith · 25/10/2007 12:51

Gah, fleas and thrush Oli! Glad you had a god break though.

I used to get fleas growing up. My cat loved to sleep on my bed and occasionally would gift me with a companion. Somehow I managed never to have to spray my room though, just spent ages shaking all my bedding out of the window.

Why the Christmas already? Not even past Halloween yet? Christmas should not be allowed to start until bonfire night has been and gone!

That said, all the babies had their footprint taken at bumps and babies this week so it will be tea towels for all the grannies/great grannies

Hugs to your spotty ds AQ

Continental market is on. I accidently bought tasty stuff

Going back to my lack of wanting to get a job. I have just calculated properly what I would take home on £18000 taking into account tax, student loan, travel, childcare and loss of tax credits.

about minus £150

I think I'm going to be a SAHM

babypowder · 25/10/2007 13:31

Oli, I do hope you don't suffer flood, drought or any other Biblical curse on top of your pestilence and disease

Indith, I so, so envy you. I wanna be a SAHM too

At last the cause of my bad back has been identified! I have diastasis - my abdominal muscles have separated, and are more than 3 finger-widths apart. If I had been checked properly after I had DD2, or if the practice nurse had maybe checked, or the doctor, or anyone, I could have been on the road to recovery much sooner. There's a huge list of things I can't do -like hoovering and swimming - and I have to accept as much help as I'm offered. I have the most incredibly gentle exercises to try to stablise my core, and once that's a little more stable they're going to try to determine how badly I've damaged my back. I dream of a pain-free day.

DD2 has a wee pal coming over after school today (her BF moved away a few weeks ago, so this is a huge step for her) so I'm off to make chocolate chip flapjack!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 25/10/2007 13:35

OMG BP! I remember the midwife checking my stomach muscles. Surely that is supposed to be standard? My friend's split in two and she had to wear a corset type thing but that was straight after birth.

I have to say I love being a SAHM. Didnt fit in with my original plans at all but I'm glad I'm able to do it.

weirdbird · 25/10/2007 13:56

DD loves to suck on your feet, but she has only just started getting her first 2 teeth so the biting may start.

I think the hats are all black for Halloween

OMG BP - Really hope they are able to do something to help you, I can't believe no one checked! Well I can, but thats just as terrible.

OP posts:
Elibean · 25/10/2007 15:55

BP, ouch, and frustrating that they didnt' spot it earlier by checking - I remember the doctor checking mine (vaguely). Hope you get lots of help! re dd's new friend, though - my dd's BF moved away last summer, it was a huge deal. She still asks for her for special occasions, adn they make each other cards from time to time, but mostly she's got lots of new friends to keep her busy. Hope you got some of your choc chip for your poor tummy

Indith · 25/10/2007 15:59

DOH! I thought it was just the uni computers making them look funny. They sort of almost look dark red

BP that is really disgraceful. But glad you have an answer and can begin to do something about it.

I am glad that I am able to be a SAHM after the degree is done but having the sums there in black and white is a bit odd. Some people are forced to work because they need the money, I would lose money if I did! How is that anyway? Those of you who do work, if we may be candid, how much childcare do you pay and how much of your salery do you actually take home each month? Tell me to sod off if that is too cheeky.

An hour til I have to pick ds up from creche...I suppose that is enough time to prepare for my only lecture tomorrow. Operation Organised Indith starts now! From now on all time when ds is in creche and I am not in classes is to be spent working in the library on penalty of failing my degree.

babypowder · 25/10/2007 16:11

Indith, I will be paying £150/week childcare when I go back to work. I honestly can't remember how much that leaves me with, but its enough to pay the bills & mortgage.

I love the way looks so witchy with the black hat on!

Elibean · 25/10/2007 16:13

Ah, but it must be sooo tempting to use that time for other things, no? I know how I feel when dd2 is asleep, dd1 is at pre-school, and all the chores/bills/phone calls are tapping on my shoulder.....but the house is quiet and empty-feeling....[Elibean drifts into fantasy land]...

Indith, welcome to SAHM-dom, and I agree - its odd how sums work out. But I hear it again and again, daft eh.

Indith · 25/10/2007 19:21

Strangely I find myself using that time to clean and make my house look like a home instead of a bombsite. Mind you, that was classic work avoidance pre-ds too!

Currently much justified MNing though as am eating my dinner, ds is asleep and dp is at rugby

Feels odd though this whole work thing, sort of wrong to borrow money to do a degree then not work and pay it back because the government is giving me more money

weirdbird · 25/10/2007 19:43

Thank you whichever of you has added me on Facebook, will try and work out who it is now...

OP posts:
Indith · 25/10/2007 19:48

That'll be me, I added the other person who Margo sent a message to!

FunkyGlassSlipupandyouredead · 25/10/2007 19:49

I just sent you a message saying who are you but now I know I'll add you too
