Tell me about it - DH has a nasty habit of taking my house keys to work with him so I can't go anywhere. When he did it when I was 8 months pg he helpfully told me to "jump" over the 8 foot gate at the back to get in and out of the house for the day

FunkyGlassSlipper · 13/08/2007 12:24

just got back from the hospital. My DD1 needs glasses. She's only 3.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 13/08/2007 15:10

poor thing

LowFatPumpkinJuice · 13/08/2007 15:21

Hi All,

Congrats on the sleep Magnolia!
I have taken the tip about a comforter in the cot for when we go away in 3 weeks. which reminds me to ring my cousin to see if I can still borrow her daughters travel cot when we get there.

DS had his first swim at the pool today. The instructor was amzaed how relaxed he was. And I was pleased that he loved it so much as I was dreading being at Butlins where the pool is the big attraction and him hating it.

He also had his first bottle without a Gaviscon in it and no food directly afterwards and he did'nt bring any up!

We still have his heart monitor in the cot, which went off 3 times in the early hours. The third time I was in his room, listening to him breathe gently, so either he's too big and moves of the pad easily or breaths too shallow for it to monitor. Must try to wean ourselves off it!

Indith · 13/08/2007 19:26

Well done on the sleep Magnolia! Long may it continue.

Your poor dd FGS

I need to get ds to break my glasses properly so I can get some new ones. He has greabbed them so much that they are all wonkey and fall off when I lean over/sneeze/push my hair back.....

Not been chased by angry geordies wanting their door paying for so I assume they got their insurance to cover it/realised that actually reversing through a door with a pram does not normally break it.

We have gone back to early bedtime for ds. Having it later just wasn't working, he wasn't napping anymore, was getting me up a million times a night then not really waking for the day til 9ish, was generally irritable amd would get so annoyed with his food that the only way he would eat it was while being carted around on my hip. So I kissed goodbye to my grand ideas of being able to eat together and after 2 days of having his evening meal at 5 then bed about 6.30/6.45 he has been transformed back into my happy, giggly boy who naps for an hour a couple of times a day and is back to enjoying food. Last night he devoured courgette and chicken like a pro. Today though he hasn't been too into solids but thought that spreading hummus around while playing drums with sticks of pepper was fantastic fun

babypowder · 13/08/2007 20:58

FGS, I needed specs when I was 4 - its not so bad . As long as she doesn't have to wear the big, black 'My name is Michael Caine' things I wore.

I've been AWOL for a couple of days as I have been stricken by sinusitis. I honestly have never known pain like it. I couldn't even string a sentence together yesterday, and kept waking up in the night crying. I begged DH to come home early today just to give me a break. I have been prescribed penicillin (which I loathe taking), and resorted to cocodamol tonight. Hopefully the antib's will kick in tomorrow.

DD1 starts school tomorrow. Off to learn how to tie a tie (we didn't wear such things in Canadian schools)

jabberwocky · 13/08/2007 21:06

Aww, fgs, so sorry but at least you found out sooner rather than later that she needed them. I'm an optometrist you know and 3 is an excellent time to get started for certain eye problems. They wouldn't have prescribed them at this age if she didn't really need them. Did they discuss anything else about her vision? Is one eye better than the other? I'll be happy to talk off-board about it if you would like.

Indith, glad things are sorted out with ds's sleep time. They definitely have their own schedule, don't they?

BP, how are you feeling today? Sinusitis really sucks doesn't it? Feels like your head is going to explode.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 13/08/2007 22:35

Thanks everyone. I know she'll be fine but it is just a bit sad to think my baby needs specs.

Actually jabber I do have some questions which I'd really appreciate talking to you about. Do you have my email address? Or could you CAT me?

jabberwocky · 14/08/2007 02:06

Sure thing. Have sent you a CAT.

babypowder · 14/08/2007 11:24

Thanks, jabber. I'm feeling a bit better today - combination of antib's and cocodamol seems to be working. I feel like such a wimp, but honestly yesterday I could understand why people with bad toothache have been known to try to fix it with a shotgun.

DD1 went off to school today, looking very grown up in her pinafore and tie. Awww.

FGS, hope you didn't think I was making light of your LO needing glasses.

I need some ideas for feeding DD2. My normal creativity has escaped me. What are you giving your LOs for lunch?

Olihan · 14/08/2007 13:05

Glad you're feeling a bit better BP. I had sinusitis years ago and I know just waht you mean about the shotgun! Can't help with the food though - I rely on your ideas on here for ds2's lunch .

Ds2's sleep is still all over the place, sometimes he manages 6 or 7 hours, other nights it's back to 3 horly. It's driving me mad now. I just want a bit of consistency.

FGS, I know you're about dd1 but littlies do look adorable in glasses and there are some gorgeous frames around. Make sure you show us a pic so we can see how cute she looks!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 13:23

I promise I will do Olihan.

Hope the sinusitus goes soon BP. Its horrible isnt it.

magnolia1 · 14/08/2007 13:37

Awww shame she needs glasses FGS, but sure she will look adorable in them and obviously she needs them but hard when they are so young. Dd1 needed hers from the age of 8/9 and now wears them all the time.

BP, hope the sinitus clears soon xx

Ds1 went to bed at 8pm woke at 1.30am, 5am and then 7.30. I can cope with that

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 14:09

I had a terrible night. Went to bed at 10.45.

DD2 woke for feeds at 11.15, 3.15, and 4.30.
DD1 woke at 5.00 asking if it was morning. 'NO' said I, so back to sleep.
DD2 woke at 6am for the day.
The DD1 wet her bed.

weirdbird · 14/08/2007 14:47

Afternoon all,

Am also exhausted after a few nights of very broken sleep.

Hananh is now full on speedy at the crawling thing and stair gates are in full operation!

Oh and Calm, am not sure Bushy is going to be an option in the current weather! Its meant to rain non stop for the next few days...

Let me know whether you want to re-schedule or try and find an alternative venue! Would need to be somewhere that will keep my 5yr old entertained!!

accessorizewithbabysick · 14/08/2007 17:39

fgs, sounds like horrible night and wb - hope tonight better. BP, I've had sinusitus, it is godawful I'd prefer to have my leg cut off but the drugs do work very quickly (I've had it twice this year) so sure they will kick in for tonight.

My ds1 also got me up at 5 squawking about swimming pools (he'd wet the bed) at least he didn't insist it was morning, I get that a lot too!

As for LO food, ds2 had potato and sweetcorn mash-style thingy for tea yesterday, tiny pasta with bol sauce & banana/mango coulis for lunch and has just squaffed butternut & orange soup for tea again followed by apple and prune porridge. Some naan bread on the side too. He really likes soup, but it's such a pain to feed him it! I'm giving lots of soup to ds2 for the impaction - thanks for the tip, jabber! I'm using the Organix cookbook a lot, bought it for ds1 but never used, it has stupid 1 serving portions but other than that lovely recipes and ds2 loves them all.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 17:50

sympathies to those with sleepless nights too

DD1 is going arouns saying "Don't even think about it" in a slightly Frank Butcher-esque growl at the moment. Cant imagine where she has got that from

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 17:51

PS Jabber - THANK YOU for replying to my email. Feel much better now. Have sent you another email with the prescription details on.

Took DD1 out today to look at glasses and we saw some shiny pink glasses she loves. Have to show them to DH this weekend and hope he agrees

jabberwocky · 14/08/2007 19:47

You're very welcome AQ and FGS. I'm at work today so will check email tonight.

Ds1 had his first accident at preschool yesterday. I did not know until they called that they do not clean them up He had to sit in poopy pants until we could pick him up!! I cannot understand why no one told us this when we discussed his colon problems with the teacher On the flip side, maybe it will motivate him to control it when he can but b/c of the impaction issues sometimes he can't

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 19:52

I've heard of pre-schools not changing nappies and calling parents but I think it's a bit rough if he has a medical problem to leave him sitting in it to be honest ! Poor little mite...

Indith · 14/08/2007 19:53

Oh BP you poor thing. I suffered from sinus problems until about 19 or so. Used to get a bout of sinusitis every month like clockwork. Gah, seriously contemplated scraping my face off with a knife a few times. Pop as much sudafed and paracetamol as you can and drink lemonade, stuff that is all fizz but no cloyingness, goes down much more easily than water

WB don't scare me about crawling and stairgates! I'm attempting to believe that we won't need one! ds is desperate to be on the move but not there yet which results in lots of frustrated screaming. He is doing some very cool uber press ups that end up with his hands and the tips of his toes on the floor and everything else in the air. Conclusion, my child is odd

Health visitor next week, missed the 6 month check in all the house moving and she has finally caught up with me. It isn't the new student who seemed to be vaguely workable with either I seem to have the incredibly annoying earnest one back. Ho hum, should be fun. She's coming about lunchtime, hope ds will put on a good eating show for her to prove that he will not in fact choke and die on finger foods before a year old!

jabberwocky · 14/08/2007 20:33

Lol, indith, ds2 is doing "uber" push-ups too. He can also make it up the stairs in about 5 seconds so you're days of relative quiet may soon be at an end We do have a baby gate but dh has always thought it was good to let them practice going up and down while supervised so that it might not be so awful if one got away and up the stairs somehow. So ds2 has the hang of going up but hasn't grasped down yet.

Thanks for the sympathy support on ds1, FGS. I don't know what to think about how to deal with future episodes. Guess we'll take it one day at a time.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 14/08/2007 21:00

My DD is crawling everywhere and pulling herself up to stand. She is crawling to the tv stand and biting the glass shelf. You hear her teeth scraping on it

babypowder · 14/08/2007 21:50

Crawling? Teeth? We are so far behind so many of you - and immeasurably grateful for DD2's apparent slothfulness

Thank you all so much for the sympathy. I am feeling much better now, and I can certainly understand how people become addicted to codeine. What a great drug!

Of course, I have to be feeling better, as DH has come down with something, is running a temperature, and is in need of round-the-clock nursing and mothering I won't even rant about it. Bl*dy men

Jabber, I can't believe they made him sit in it. That's horrific. What has made our society so squeamish and risk-averse? It's a SMALL PERSON, for heaven's sake, not a disease ridden rat we're talking about.

Sleep vibes to WB, and anyone else who needs tham.
