@melissa112 I would love to tell people to change their clothes as it does bother me that much, but I don't have the balls🤣🤣. Instead I just try to stay away. I'm lucky that nobody in our circle smokes but if the situation arose where I had to go into a smokey house I'd make a point of keeping Elliot out of the way of it. I'd probably go as far as to not bring him and I'd tell them why. People these days can't really say much with everything we know now about the dangers.

Brobot · 18/08/2019 13:35

@Footymum81 last night Elliot took over an hour to settle on the boob (normally a max of 20 mins) and then when I moved him upstairs I put him directly into the cot. Within 20 seconds his eyes pinged open and he looked around him in panic so I had to move him to the bed and settle him again. 🤦‍♀️

WhatALearningCurve · 18/08/2019 19:26

Does anyone here have a Groegg?

WhatALearningCurve · 18/08/2019 19:27

I bought one yesterday because we needed a new night light - it's currently saying it's 21.6 degrees so technically too hot but I'm really cold so I'm trying to work out if maybe there's a fault or if my body's just being weird today ha

Sianlouise432 · 18/08/2019 20:52

@whatalearningcurve tell me about it! Our Ideal smart thermostat and the thermometer in my bedroom sometimes say about 21 degrees but my skin feels cold to the touch!

kee80 · 18/08/2019 21:05

@WhatALearningCurve mine never goes below 20-21 even though it feels cooler to me

HidCat · 18/08/2019 22:10

Sorry I've been MIA ladies.

@Brobot so sorry to hear the news about your brother. Lots of love to you all. xxx

melissa112 · 18/08/2019 23:37

@Brobot ha I normally wouldn't have the balls to, I think I might have even got my mum to tell my dad about it.. so not as confident as I made out haha.

@WhatALearningCurve we have both the older and newer versions of the gro egg. One upstairs and one downstairs. OH always says he thinks it reads too hot. I did put them side by side downstairs when I got the second one and they were within 0.1 degrees of each other at the most but mainly the same so assume it's right. Or both wrong ha. But I agree that it feels colder than what it says. I go by the gro bag what to wear guide, its 22.3 upstairs and it tells me short sleeved or no sleeved vest and 1 tog grobag and I'm here snuggled in my 10 tog duvet! He never feels too cold or too hot though so guess it's ok!

melissa112 · 18/08/2019 23:40

@HidCat how are things going?

Has anyone hit leap 5 yet? It says we'll start to see signs from tomorrow.. two in particular stood out to me 'sleeps worse, sleeps less, eats less' and 'is displeased with many things' 🤣 cant wait! The past couple of days he does seem hard to please, gets bored easily of a toy and moves onto something else and then gets quickly bored and whiny so maybe we've started early.

@BadBadBeans I hope you get some answers soon from the surgeon with some positive news too!

Which travel cot are you using if you dont mind me asking? LO has grown out of his moses basket which he uses for downstairs naps and I dont want to have to carry the snuzpod up and down every day. We need one anyway for when we go to Cornwall in a couple of months so hoping to do daytime naps in it until he can go upstairs alone.

I think that it's ok to leave them if they have rolled themselves onto their front as they have the neck strength to move themselves out of trouble if they need to.

cardboard33 · 19/08/2019 09:13

@badbadbeans good luck with both the bottles and the surgeon call!

I can't remember who was using reusable wipes, but would you reccommend? What brands are you using? I'm considering getting some for home now I feel like we've got into the swing of being a parent. Ideally I'd like to use reusable nappies at home but want to change the wipes first. We started using cotton wool when he was first born but as the poos have got thicker they've not been as good.

@wineandchoccy you were right about the pushchair liner ... I've had SO many compliments on it.

WhatALearningCurve · 19/08/2019 09:49

@melissa112 we have the Aldi travel cot for when he's at my mums. He loves it. He slept through in it on Friday. Never done that for me haha

Brobot · 19/08/2019 10:36

😣😣😣 Last night I stealthily moved Elliot into the cot after he was asleep and then tiptoed to my bed like a ninja. 5 minutes he lasted. Had to bring him into the bed. I know this isn't going to happen overnight but I just can't see how he will get used to not sleeping next to me. When I wakes he puts a hand out to feel me and goes back to sleep.

Sianlouise432 · 19/08/2019 22:10

@brobot in the exact same boat so keep updating if anything works! I actually feel dread when I imagine LO as a 2 year old screaming at me to sleep in bed with me :( it needs sorting before he develops the habit.

ballanj · 19/08/2019 22:36

Hi everyone 👋🏼

Been so busy that I'm still catching up on all your news. Thinking of you all though and will send some proper replies tomorrow. Didn't want to read and run but wanted to check in to our new thread, can't believe we're on number three already.

Am I the only one thinking how quickly this year is going by? I remember us all talking about our pregnancy woes at the end of last year heading into the new year and now it's nearly September.

Sheeni · 20/08/2019 08:33

Thanks all for making me feel like I'm not the crazy one again!
DH spoke with MIL and they will be washing and airing most of their flat before our arrival and are planning to smoke either in the outside hallway or from the kitchen window with door closed.
Still, if the LO seems like it bothers him, I'll take him to a hotel, whether they like it or not.
Honestly, I'm the last person I'd call a people-pleaser, but my relationship with MIL is difficult enough as it is and if I can avoid making it worse, I have to at least try.

Brobot · 20/08/2019 10:51

@Sianlouise432 last night he was restless so there was no point in trying to move him so I turned away from him so that he was at least sleeping away from me but he instantly started reaching out and scooching into me lol. It's absolutely adorable lol but I too am terrified of the thought of a 2 year old still being in the bed. They say it's supposed to create confidence and independence but he seems to be becoming more clingy to me! The older he gets the more difficult it's going to be. Also, it's taking a toll on the sex life!! We've had sex ONCE since I became pregnant and that was about 3 months after the birth and it made me so self conscious because we could both feel a difference (due to the newly qualified midwife's stupid stitching job) so I've been reluctant to even attempt it again. But now the option isn't even there as Elliot is right beside us. I think my husband would be happy enough to try stuff with him beside us but I just cant!! I'm in Mum Mode when he's near me so I am on high alert. 😣😣

melissa112 · 20/08/2019 11:21

@cardboard33 watching with interest about the reusables..something I wouldn't have thought of originally. I'm going to have a Google, if I find anything useful I'll post it.

@WhatALearningCurve oh brill, it looks like the baby bjorn one! I'll have a look. Yay for sleeping through!

@Brobot could you resettle him once he wakes in his cot? Maybe lie on the floor with a hand resting on him so he can feel you. Does white noise work at all? We're lucky in that he'll sleep in his snuzpod but if he wakes we do have to unzip it and hold his hand so eventually need to also work out a way to avoid that as I cant do that from another room. It's hard isnt it. Just read your update and oh my, his scooching into you does sound absolutely adorable!!

@ballanj hi! Hows it going? Did you say youd starting weaning LO? I know, how fast is it all going! I look at him sometimes and cant believe how big he is. DP is away this week with work and we video chatted last night and he thinks hes massive but he only saw him in real life the previous day!

@Sheeni I'm glad that your in laws are taking some steps to make sure it's as smoke free as possible. But if you do feel uncomfortable then definitely opt for the hotel.

We've just bought a load of 6-9month stuff. Hes already in them as he's quite long but just wondering how many sleeping bags of each tog to get in the next size? His feet are at the very bottom of his 0-6 ones but the grobag next size seems to have a minimum weight of 18lbs and he won't be that for at least 2 months I reckon so not sure what we can do. I have one 2.5 tog in 6-12M and will buy another but just wondering how many 1 tog ones to buy? Its hard not knowing how mild it's going to be in a couple of months. Our bedroom is always pretty warm! Where does everyone get their sleeping bags from? The grobag ones are good but so expensive!

melissa112 · 20/08/2019 11:49

Also meant to ask. Is it ok to re use sleeping bags? My friend gave me her daughters 6-18M one. It's been washed by her and I'll wash it again but just unsure as its something that's been used every night for 12 months? Am I just being silly?

Sheeni · 20/08/2019 20:16

@Brobot I'm in the same boat as you, except we haven't even attempted sex since birth. The longer it is the scarier it seems. I've had issues before even getting pregnant as I'm very prone to infections, so I'm just worried it will hurt.
But also, there's never an opportunity. My LO sleeps on me. Even during the day it's either on me, in the carrier, in the car seat or in a moving pram. I don't think I'll ever be desperate enough to do it while he screams in the cot. I don't even think I'd be able to do it.
It's so rubbish as we barely had any sex during pregnancy as I had several UTIs and didn't want to risk more. But at least we could do alternatives. Now even that is near impossible.
Fingers crossed we'll both be able to get this sorted soon. I'm planning to get a sleep consultant once LO is 6 months. The cuddles are lovely, but I haven't had a proper sleep since he was born and I don't think he's resting that well either. I'm very bone-y, so lying on me must be very uncomfortable.

BadBadBeans · 20/08/2019 20:50

@melissa112 it's a hauck cot my dad got from Aldi years ago for when his nephew and their baby came to visit. It had only been used a couple of times so he passed it on to us for our eldest. Hands down it is the best gift he has ever given me. It's heavy, but it's solid and trustworthy and it packs away nicely. We bought a foam mattress for it from Amazon when DS1 got a bit bigger as he seemed to find the padded cot base uncomfortable on its own.

@cardboard33 Thanks! Bottle feeding actually went well today. He was more interested in chewing the teat at first. It took several attempts, but just at the end of the two-hour window (when I would have had to chuck the warmed breast milk) he drank the lot down. Whew! The way it fell meant that I went 7 hours today between feeding him. I was feeling quite uncomfortable by the time I had to pick up DS1 from nursery! Caught 130ml in the haakaa with the next feed.

I'm a reusable wipes person! I use the Cheeky Wipes. I got their kit for DS1, then got a load of extra wipes for DS2 so we have about 60 wipes all together. I LOVE them.

Jenlou1992 · 21/08/2019 21:26

@Brobot@Sheeni...I'm over here only having DTD once since having my LO. I still don't feel I have my drive back either. It's ok for men ...nothing changes for them .

On other exciting news ...I am finally moving into my house this weekend. Only waited 8 months ..I'm actually more excited for the fact that when my partner is off next weekend I can get an extra 2 hours in bed in the morning as he can get up with rose once I've fed her at about 7. And that excited me more than anything ..

Think we are turning a corner on the sleep front . Rose was waking at least 5 times a night. Every time I was giving her the boob . It had been like this for about 3 weeks and I just couldn't take it anymore ..I was exhausted . So as i know she has gone 4-5 hours before at night time I tried a different approach ..I fed her about half 9 (her usual bedtime) then when she woke the first time i just put a dummy in and she settled of back to sleep. The second time she woke I fed her ...the third time I put the dummy in and so on ... which worked . Now 3 days of doing that and last night She only woke twice in the night 3-4 hours apart and I just fed as they were lengthy sleeps for my LO . And she got up at 7.15 . I'm excited to see if this improves even more. She was definatley just waking and needing comfort/reassuring . No more 5+ get ups . Well I don't want to speak too soon . Rose is 5 months next week on Thursday ..1 more month till weaning . Excited much .

Sorry for this long ass message .. I'm thinking of weaning of the boob as well as onto solids . After looking after rose on my own this whole time has made me feel I need to get my me time back . However I just don't know where the he'll to start . Or wether Its even worth it . I may feel different when I get in the house and get some help of the OH. If he helps that is .

Hope all is well with every one

Jenlou1992 · 22/08/2019 09:19

Well take back what I said about the sleep improving .. lots of wake ups last night and wouldn't settle unless had the boob . ... ahh well those two days were good whilst they lasted

HidCat · 22/08/2019 16:28

@melissa112 we're doing ok. Had a bit of a rough week though as both hubby and I have had a tummy bug. By some miracle we managed a date night last night though my poor in laws had a very unsettled baby who wouldn't take milk. We think it was a mix of separation anxiety and teething as she's been warm with flushed cheeks today.

With regards to sex post birth. We've been back in the mix a while but I have very little pleasurable sensation. The doc said that my episiotomy hasn't fully closed so I can request that they redo it if things don't improve. I figured I'd give at least 6 months before exploring options. It doesn't hurt, I just don't feel much.

@Jenlou1992 congratulations on the new house! And great news that LO is starting to sleep better, there will always be bad nights so don't be disheartened. Keep trying the dummy and it will soon be more normal to have longer stints. I'm starting to transition to formula in the day as I go back to work on Oct 1st and she's not been taking a bottle very well of late, probably as she only has it once a week And needs more practice.
