@melissa112 I've been for lunch / dinner with my partner and separately with friends. Our car seat is a lie flat one so I tend to just put that on the pram. Other than that we just tend to do normal activities - we've been for walks round local parks and taken him to the Trafford Centre / Ikea etc

MistakenHoliday · 22/04/2019 10:20

@melissa112 like @BadBadBeans it's completely normal. I remember being gutted when DD1 did this at times. Then I realised that it meant I wasn't required and could do something for myself on my own for a change

And one day you'll be able to laugh at the 0-1 best spat, and put it down to post baby madness.

@Sheeni I'm sure it's just a blip and the dummy hasn't done any damage. It's such a rollercoaster being a mum, isn't it?

We're off to a fair and dog show in the local park today, then meeting DH off the train this afternoon. We're all very much looking forward to him coming back!

melissa112 · 22/04/2019 10:43

@WhatALearningCurve do you have to ring ahead and check there's space for a pram etc or only go to a pub type place where there are likely to be other kids? I think I'm overthinking it all maybe!?

@MistakenHoliday i guess that's a good way to look at it. I haven't left him with DP yet since the week i had him when i went to the doctors for 10 mins. Its not that i don't trust DP to do it all properly or a conscious decision really but maybe i should start to nip out to the supermarket instead of DP and it'll not become a big deal then.

Oo have fun today at the dog show! Are you taking your dog or spectating? Can i ask how you keep the little one cool in this weather? We've been hibernating til early evening but would be nice to get out! Have a lovely reunion with DH Smile

MistakenHoliday · 22/04/2019 10:59

@melissa112 it's nerve-wracking to do at first isn't it? I always worry about whether my boob will be required then get home and everything is fine Smile Plus, the supermarket is so much easier to activate when you've not got to tussle with a baby too.

Our dog is definitely not allowed at the dog show! He's a lovely thing but shows how happy is by barking at everything in the vicinity, especially other dogs 🙄 I think it's a terrier trait... He's out on a walk with his dog gang now and is amazing off lead but loses his mind when he's on the lead. He's still young, so we're hoping we can train him out of it 🤞🏻

I'm not sure we're doing the right thing in terms of keeping DD2 cool... yesterday I just had her in her short sleeved bodysuit and a hat with some sun cream on. Her pram has a bamboo lining thing that I think helps regulate temperature and I put a big muslin over the front to keep the inside cool. When we were in the park we just sat in the shade and she was fine. I'm completely winging it here though!

WhatALearningCurve · 22/04/2019 11:02

@melissa112 well they're all places I went to pre pregnancy so I'm familiar with them? If it's somewhere I know we have to book I just make sure I tell them it's "x amount of adults and need room for a pram as well as he's not old enough for a high chair". I think you may be overthinking it slightly but I can completely understand why, I think you just need to try and remember seeing kids in places before you were pregnant. As long as you're not taking them in a cocktail bar / fancy restaurant at night then your absolutely fine!

In terms of keeping him cool, we had him outside in his vest and short sleeve / short leg romper yesterday (24 degrees near me) and tried to keep him in the shade. There was no breeze around 4pm but was still incredibly warm and that point just had him in his vest (which is what he slept in last night too). We've just been following his cues. Both his dad and I run really warm and it seems like he does too because when he's warm he fusses a lot and calms down when we strip him off

WhatALearningCurve · 22/04/2019 11:04

@melissa112 we did also try a hat on him but it seems he has a tiny head and no hats fit him so they just end up falling down his face and he thinks someone's turned the lights off 😂

melissa112 · 22/04/2019 12:34

@MistakenHoliday oh bless him. Our German shepherd used to bark at other dogs and being as big as she is it was hard to convince others that she wasn't aggressive. She did eventually come out the other side with training on walks using a clicker and lots of treats for even a second of no reaction at first and we just built up the time she was calm for if that helps Smile she's fine now but will still bark at collies Hmm hope you have a lovely day! Your pram sounds fab, i think i shrunk all my muslins as everyone says they are good for things like this but ours are like 10cm squared size!

@WhatALearningCurve haha the lights turned off comment made me laugh! Ill have to have a look for a hat and some rompers now you mention it! And yeh you're right, i never gave kids in restaurants a second thought before. We've decided to bite the bullet and go for lunch tomorrow while DP is off.

WhatALearningCurve · 22/04/2019 12:37

@melissa112 do it! The idea of doing it is much scarier than actually doing it. Tomorrow is a good shout because either a) schools near you will still be off for Easter therefore there will be kids everywhere and one more baby won't even be noticed or b) everyone will be back in school / work so it'll be super quiet and it'll be really calm for you

melissa112 · 22/04/2019 12:43

@WhatALearningCurve yep those were our thoughts too. Definitely agree that the thought is worse than the doing, I've found that with most things, especially when DP is at work and i need to take him out alone.

Wineandchoccy · 22/04/2019 16:34

@melissa112 I have a 4 year old as well so most places we go are soft play, parks etc but today I put Lois in the sling and we went for a walk in the woods as it was cool under the trees. The best thing about this age is they are portable so you can carry on pretty much as normal as long as you are not taking them clubbing Grin
With regards to keeping them cool they don’t recommend sun cream for babies under 6 months as it can block their pores and they can’t regulate their temperature properly. We have a shade a babe for the pram which are really good.
Lois has been in a romper with nappy and socks today and is now in a sleepsuit due to a poonami

HidCat · 22/04/2019 19:10

Hi everyone, I hope you've all had a lovely Easter weekend! We're chilling with the baby asleep and DS having a relaxing evening having been away with his grandparents over the weekend. Just waiting for baby to wake up for her feed. I've managed to keep breastfeeding but having some issues with latch due to fast let down and also having vasospasm so boobs can be quite painful. It's getting better though so going to give it a bit longer as I don't want to switch to formula yet as I want to feed her myself as long as possible.

MistakenHoliday · 22/04/2019 19:23

@Wineandchoccy god, I wish you'd said that about the sun cream yesterday Confused Luckily, I was quite slapdash in my application (it was a spray and I managed one side and a dab in her nose) so all was well. Good to know for the summer though!

KarBB · 22/04/2019 20:54

@HidCat How can you tell you have a fast let down & Vasospasm? I have a painful let down several times a day & my boobs feel really uncomfortable if they experience sudden colder temperature. They also sting & burn a bit sometimes & the feeling is quite internal- like a 'tugging' feeling - it's very peculiar !. I can't feel any blocked ducts & latch is improving (DS has posterior tongue tie). It's strange as sometimes his sucking is painful to begin with & other times it relieves the discomfort & feels good. And the whole area is strangely hot & sensitive, but not painful. This feeling has been coming & going for several weeks & im 7w pp today. Is this normal?

Gronk27 · 23/04/2019 00:01

Aaaand back in hospital with another bleed. Been waiting to be seen by a doctor for over five hours. A is with DM. This is a fun first date night.

Wineandchoccy · 23/04/2019 02:02

@Gronk27 hope you are ok and they get to the bottom of it.

Gronk27 · 23/04/2019 02:40

@wineandchoccu thanks, they're being thorough. Blood tests, examination and booked in for scan and I’ve got a prescription for antibiotics. Had a funny turn when the doctor was trying to take blood. DH said it looked like I was dying bless him, gave him a shock. Think I was just tired and hungry and hyperventilated a bit. I’m not good with needles at the best of times and I went faint but then felt really awful. Apparently my lips were completely white! Nice to know I can leave Adela with my parents though! Didn’t worry about her at all just missed her.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/04/2019 05:50

Sorry you're suffering again @Gronk27 - I really hope they find a cause so they can make it better!

Regards covering the pram - please don't! Well use an open shade - putting a muslin or blanket over the whole opening makes the inside really hot instead of protecting them from the sun.

Regarding feeding/sucking all the time - completely normal when bf. You would sip a drink when you're thirsty, it's just what they are doing as well as comforting etc.
DD likes to suck without milk though, so we spend a lot of post feed time with a finger in her mouth - she probably would benefit from a dummy but my mum was so against them and I can't do that just because she is gone, so we will stick to a finger. She doesn't need it once she is asleep, just to help her settle as she is very bubbly

Jenfur · 23/04/2019 07:53

@Gronk27 Hope you're ok and have some answers soon.

My 3 year old has had diarrhoea during the night (obviously waking us up between baby feeds rather than conveniently at the same time!) So won't be going to nursery today or tomorrow. My first full day with both of them and one is going to need the toilet more than usual (a huge battle already lately) and the other has started our day with four feeds in 45 minutes. Wish me luck!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/04/2019 07:59

Good luck Jenfur! I would definitely recommend a sling if you have one for dealing with both.

Jenfur · 23/04/2019 08:02

@SquirtlesMumAgain I don't have one. I've been a bit nervy about putting him in wrong or somehow dropping him so didn't get round to looking into any 🤦 currently letting Peppa pig do my parenting 😂

shiny888 · 23/04/2019 08:20

@HidCat I also have Vasospasm so I feel you're pain!! Is yours painful when you're not feeding aswell? I often get really bad pranging pains when I'm not feeding too.
I went to see a breast feeding consultant and she suggested warmth on the nipples. Extra layers on your boob, warm flannel, them little heat packs you click and they go warm.
Iv been putting extra layers and it's definitely been helping Abit!
I hope yours clears up quickly!

HidCat · 23/04/2019 08:23

@KarBB when the let down kicks in baby reacts to it - clamps down, lets go or splutters and she clicks / squeaks during the early part of a feed. With vasospasm I would have a look at your nipple when you get pain between feeds - if it's white then you probably have vasospasm. The tugging within the breast may be related (I have this too), I'm going to ask the doc at my check up.

@Gronk27 I hope you're doing ok this morning.

@SquirtlesMumAgain I had to correct DH on the Muslim thing. I put it covering the side where the sun is and remove it when we change position. That way she is shaded when needed but still has plenty of air (downside being that the Muslim flaps in a breeze).

@Jenfur you'll do fine, I'm sure but I don't envy you! Good luck!

Hermagsjesty · 23/04/2019 11:38

Just catching up with thread...

@jenfur hope your biggest little one feels better soon!

@melissa112 is it today you and DH are going out to lunch? Have a lovely time!! This baby gets dragged out with me everywhere but I remember being really nervous taking DD out at first - I found the idea of it was definitely more intimidating than the reality though. Enjoy!

I have my 7yo DD home with me today too, we went to a water fight on our street last night to mark the end of the Easter hols. She slipped and went over on her ankle, right at the end. She now can’t put any weight on the foot at all. Took her to the GP this morning and the GP said to take her to A&E for an X-ray as can’t be sure the foot isn’t broken Shock - so waiting for DH to get back from a meeting so we can take her (can’t manage carrying her and the baby solo). I really hope it’s just an ankle sprain as it’s been less than 24hrs and she’s already really frustrated at being immobile!!

Jenfur · 23/04/2019 12:03

Oh no @Hermagsjesty I hope your Dd's foot isn't broken, fingers crossed for you!

Wineandchoccy · 23/04/2019 12:32

Fingers crossed that it isn’t broken @Hermagsjesty kids are so accident prone my 4 year old is permanently bruised or covered in plasters Confused
