Have a Virus and looking after new born :-(

Does anyone have any advice as to what to do?

For the last 48 hours I’ve had

  • headache
  • fever (going from red hot to freezing cold and shivering)
  • muscle cramps in legs and arms
  • feeling dizzy like I am going to pass out
  • feeling sick and loss of appetite

My LO was 8 weeks yesterday and had her immunisations, she was crying for a solid 8 hours afterwards which I think made my symptoms worse. My mum has come round today to help out in order for me to get some sleep and hopefully recover.

I’m just worried that this will continue and I won’t be in any fit state to look after LO especially if I’m on the verge of fainting, I barely have the energy to pick her up :-(

How have other people dealt with illness and looking after little one, is it a case of powering through? I feel a bit daft asking but any advice would be greatly appreciated

Xx

No advise, just hope your mum helps you out and you feel better soon. My anemia didn't disappear immediately after birth so I was dizzy and had cramps but didn't feel ill. Maybe see if you can get a blood test from gp or midwife incase of anemia. I suppose don't be afraid to ask for help, my mum said she had a virus when I was newborn, she just spend lots of time in bed breastfeeding with my dad taking me when she fell asleep, and friends looked after my sisters.

Aww thanks, it turned out to be mastitis! It cleared up after a few days and a course of antibiotics, but it felt like I had been hit by a bus! X
