happy bday aidan!

does it count as a booze free week if i start today? had a half glass of wine last night so not off to a great start!

jacob is still waking up pretty much every 2 hours from midnight onwards. it's incredibly annoying as he's kind of hungry but not really and more often than not he just needs a cuddle but he can't settle himaelf back on his own. he's also taken to moving around a lot in his cot and keeps bumbing his head.

whoever it was who asked about head bumping, jacob does this as well in the day - does it once when he gets somewhere and then does it again

bloss where are you bloss - have you recovered from 4 days away?????

you will all be pleased to know i am being little miss organised and starting to pack stuff up that we don't really use for the next (and final for a good 10 years!) move.

have a great day everyone and dodge the rain clouds

Aidan 19lb 12oz (10mth today)
Josh 19lb 4oz (10th and 1 wk)
Ella 16lb (10mth 1 wk)
Zack 16lb 11ozs (10 months 2 wks)
Bella - er...dont know was 15lb last time 6 weeks ago. sooo...er...16lb?! (HV annoys me so I stopped going...) (10 months, 29 days)

She eats like a horse tho, so maybe even more? But she is now walking, so maybe less?!!

Yes, on the walking. Not quite on her own but...
She stands up, on her own. HOW COOOOOOL? She pushes herself up now using her legs, not pulling up using arms. She pushes with legs, arms out like a greek dancer (or is it russian?!) stands for a good few seconds now before sitting back down gracefully. She used to fall back on her butt, but now pre-empts it! She walks well with her train, just walks across the floor no problems (rather than 'falling' along with it, like she used to!). And, walking on her own. Sne reached out for my hands, took my fingers, stood up by pushing, and used my fingers as guides only, she took about 5 steps across the floor, not pulling on my hands, not me coaxing her, where she drags very slightly, but actual real, proper baby steps!!! [huge proud mummy emoticon], it was slow and her legs were sort of sticking out as she moved them, was v funny to watch...I cried. We have given it 2 weeks. then we think she will be walking without my fingers there (i really think she just needed them to feel confident).

Happy Birthday Aiden!

Lysette - I read somewhere that night waking with Los at our age, could be seperation anxiety. Apparantly it is common with babies that dont suffer ffrom it during the day. In fact more likely as during the day, there is always someone around, but at night in bed, they are completely alone (unless jacob co-sleeps?). Not sure if this is what Jacob is experiencing, but might be? .

I am quite upset at the moment at stopping breastfeeding. Last night was likely the last night . I had been trying to get DD onto a bottle during the day for a long time, for going back to work, and she never wanted it. Then about 6 weeks ago, or so, she started taking it. During the day only, still topping up with bm too, and morning and night bf only. However, my boobs seemed to go back to how they were pre=pregnancy, and I thought this was fine, just working well, no prob. Mornings tho, DD did not seem to be getting enough milk, and had stopped being interested in bf during the day, so this had become less/stopped, apart from suckling for comfort. So, one morning last week/week before, I gave her a bottle after her morning feed, see how much she would take and she took 7oz! Then she wanted a bottle rather than milk, and within a couple of days I was convinced there was no/v little milk in the morning. Now she is not interested, gets v excited when she sees the bottle . Same at night now. It seems there is no milk. My boobs are now a bit smaller than pre-pregnancy so I know there is no milk. Missed a night before last, and my boobs did not fill up. Yesday she took a bottle, and only suckled a bit on bm.

I am sooooo sad. I did not want to happen so quickly. I wanted to feed morning and night for a while, maybe another 6 months. But my body has decided otherwise. I did not research yesterday, and apparantly it happens that some women's milk supply dimishes when they start weaning from breast. I guess I am one of those, and DD helped by enjoying a bottle so much. DP, of course, does not understand.

Checking in for a quick hello!

Get you and your drunken posts! The weekend was good then?! Mine was boooooring - rubbish weather, girls had lots of homework then disappeared off for a sleepover on Sunday so yesterday I had to handle the fallout of two ratty sleep-deprived grumps while the lucky H escaped to work.

Cripes Pavlov - walking! Well done Bella DD1 walked at 9 months and 3 weeks, but Thomas is on course for about double that, bless him. He's still not crawling - is he the last?

As for his weight, he hasn't been weighed for a month, but he was about 20lb at 9 months and 1 week. This might be why he's not mobile. But he's soooo scrummy and gorgeous with his soft kiss-me cheeks, I love it!

frenchleave · 29/05/2007 10:43

Pavlov - I know how you feel. The idea of stopping bf breaks my heart too. I was talking about this with a friend who has a baby the same age who has stopped bfing like you, because her baby was less and less interested. Don't feel rejected, I think once weaned onto the bottle lots of babies prefer it as it's less hard work, so get frustrated at the breast. But there's nothing stopping you continuing to let her suckle for comfort if she likes it - would you do that?

How many bottles/bfs are you all giving at the mo? Thomas has three - at about 9am, 4.30/5pm and 8.30pm, and two meals (lunch and dinner). Haven't got the faintest what stage we are supposed to be at

PavlovtheCat · 29/05/2007 10:45

Kbaby - lol at your little one btw, he sounds just like DD! She pushes furniture along too, and she moves so fast, I cannot turn around for a second anymore!

PavlovtheCat · 29/05/2007 10:52

French - I have not got a clue either. I am sure we give her too much, but DP and I are in disagreements about food and milk with DD. I made the mistake of telling him once that mantra 'food is fun until they are one' when DD did not want breakfast and was there trying to force her to eat it. Now, when I suggeste cutting down her milk so she eats a bit more food, at breakfast time mainly, he says 'but you said 'food is fun...', make your mind up, you keep changing it, either its important or its not?'! [grrrrr emoticon]

DD has 4 bottles between 5oz and 7oz. Some days she has all 4 7oz bottles, some days she will have less than that. She has 7am, 10:30am (now, am waiting for bottle to sterilise!), 2:30pm ish and bed time. I am trying to persuade DP to cut out both day bottles an replace with cup of milk and a snack of fruit or similar.

She is suckling at night time, and sometimes in the day she wont nap, and then she suckles, but last night she was just not interested in sucling either. She used to until the last few days push down to get to my boobs but not doing that either . My little girl is growing up. I wish she had never took the bottle. I was secretly, well not so secretly, hoping she never took it (would have been tough at work, but I have been off sick anyway so it would not have really mattered whilst I am at home, just did not know that at the time!).
I could happily have bf until she was at least 18 months old

HumphreysCorner · 29/05/2007 11:16

Morning ladies

I was distraught when Sophie stopped BF very abruptly. Wasn't ready for it at all. Should have realised I had no milk sooner-just thought she wasn't interested in milk and was only having 1 feed a day so of course it did dry up. She gets very excited now when she sees me get her sippy cup out and put SMA Progress in it.

Not so wet today. HV rang-she is going to do Sophie's 1 year assessment at my house when she comes to see me on the 5th June. Forgot to ask her to bring the scales.

numpty-have you started your AD's yet?

Lordy-Emma was v. trying yesterday. Not so good trying to keep a tired nearly 4 year old occupied in the rain. Doesn't help that she gets up early and sits playing outside Sophie's room and talking very loudly to herself and waking everyone up in the process. Cue 4 tired people!

Have a good day ladies.

xxx

PavlovtheCat · 29/05/2007 11:23

HC - I remember that actually. It was very hard for you wasnt it? How does she do with the sippy cup? How much milk does she drink each day? Do you give her milk throughout the day in the sippy cup or at set times?

How much water should ff babies drink during the day? DD likes water, and does drink it, but not huge amounts

MaeWest · 29/05/2007 11:31

Pavlov, sorry you're feeling down about stopping bf. It's all so emotional isn't it? Even my boy is starting to cut back (during the day) on the milk as he eats more food, and it's making me feel a little odd and sad. I know that it's good that he's growing up, but...

Have added to the birthday list, DS just squeaked in as a July babe! He's wearing a collection of clothes - too tight too short 9-12 trousers, but tops ok. Mostly comfy in 12-18 month stuff, with some 2 yr things. Sizes seem completely arbitrary as he's not that big... HV weighed him last week and he was 23lb 1oz (9months, 3 weeks). Starting to crawl in earnest now so expect him to slim a little. Tried out his new forward facing car seat at the weekend and he loves being able to see out. Fingers crossed that it helps with the sickness too, as we have a trip to the inlaws at the weekend.

numptysmummy · 29/05/2007 11:40

Hi hc - been meaning to ask soomeone bout the ads. Not sure when to take them so haven't started yet which is really silly i know cos i had a really up and down wkend.Trouble is when i'm good i'm bloody fantastic and i convince myself i'm o.k.
On the giving up bf,my 1st 2 weaned themselves at a yr,ds2 was 16mths and i felt bad about the way it happened (emergency admission to hopsital for me) but i was kind of pleased because he was up in the night to feed and a bit in the day and i was newly pregnant and knackered! It does take some getting used to tho. I guess Ella will keep going til she decides to stop. She feeds at about 6 when she wakes up, has weetabix for brekkie, more boob at 10.30ish and then probally every few hrs thru the day but i think they are more drinks than feeds as she has very little in the way of juice or water.

HumphreysCorner · 29/05/2007 11:47

Pavlov-she has 5oz at breakfast and sometimes 3oz before bed. I must try and give her more but she seems to be OK and has Petit Filous and HIPP yoghurts.

Didn't want to introduce a bottle being as though she wasn't used to them. Also felt that I didn't want her sucking on a teat when she should have been sucking on my nipple. Mean, I know but she is fine with the cup and it will save me weaning her off a bottle as Em was nearly 3 before she would give hers up.

HumphreysCorner · 29/05/2007 11:54

numpty-it doesn't tell you on the leaflet when to take them so I take mine with a cup of tea at bedtime. Does mean that when I first started taking them I woke up in a fog which passed by 11am ish but now wake up calm. Infact, I can't tell I'm taking them now so hope they are still working! When I took AD's 6 years ago I used to take them first thing in the morning-felt woozy mid morning onwards then.

numpty, you must take them. You are having the extreme highs and lows that I had for several weeks/months. On the good days I used to laugh and DH (and I) thought I was better. Then I used to wake up and hit the floor with a thud and was literally on the floor for days before the high came. I did end up going to the Drs on a low day as if I had gone on a high day I don't think he would have believed me.

numptysmummy · 29/05/2007 12:03

I know - been here before TWICE ffs!!!!!!!!
Just hadn't taken these and didn't fancy trying to get kids to school completely off my face!
Got some more up to date pics on profile - ds2 looked like he should have an asbo on the last one Had cut all his hair off to get rid of the baby stuff.
Off to spend obscene amounts of money on plants now. Catch up again later.

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 29/05/2007 12:59

Hi Girls,
Back to work today. Took me ages this morning to work out whether I had to go or not!

Numpty, good luck with the ADs. I know nothing about them, but I guess the sooner you start them the sooner you'll feel better.
HC sounds like they are working for you! How's the head this morning, did you go mad last night on the Blossom Hill? I just had a couple of glasses, and then zonked into bed.

Pav re the bf, but whatever happens, she will be grand. They seem to take on board their own ideas at this stage don't they?
Congrats on her walking though!!! WOW! Fantastic!

Lysette, it counts as a booze free week, if you get through two days without it!!! And that's two days in a row.

Twinklemegan · 29/05/2007 13:02

There are some pretty light babies in this postnatal club then. I reckon that if Aidan's in the bottom 25% there must be a huge lot of humungously fat babies skewing the figures (and I don't mean to imply that any of you have humungously fat babies btw).

KZ - I did it, but unfortunately I did make a fool of myself again by breaking down into tears. But having finally got the stoopid receptionist to book me in with a doctor, it was a shock when I got sent through to the nurse who was just like "oh do you want to get on the bed then?". Erm no, I need to talk to a doctor first please - cue burst into tears.

Anyway, the doctor managed to persuade me to have an examination to see how I was healing and I agreed to have the smear since I was already lying there half naked anyway. Apparently the way they've stitched me makes it more awkward but she managed to do it, bless her, and it hardly hurt at all this time. She's referred me to the hospital for counselling which I think will be a good thing.

Sorry folks for all that TMI, but I'm just so relieved it's finally over with.

Yes, Twinkle-well done girl.

Sophie is trying to pull herself up using my legs and the furniture. Her nose is streaming again.

FirstAtForty · 29/05/2007 14:15

Hi Girls

Emma was 17lbs 4 at 10 months + 1 week ? and seems to be getting chunkier by the day

Re milk, the dietician said they should be taking around 20oz of milk over 3- 4 feeds a day ? that seems quite a lot though, I think lots of babies take less than this by this stage? Emma has a bf at 7am and 11pm, but refuses to bf during the day, so has two day feeds of a mix of soya formula and calcium fortified rice milk (ratio 1:4). Dietician was not happy about the rice milk but I didn?t want to give too much soya because of the potential problems so she has prescribed Nutramigen, though apparently it?s quite unpalatable so she may not drink it. The rice milk actually has more calcium than formula though and I also add vitamin drops, so it?s only really the protein that is missing I think and she?s eating lots of protein in her solids now.

Pavlov ? know what you mean about being sad at giving up bf, I?m dreading it in a way and it could happen at any time, but trying to remember that they only grow more attached to you as they get older (even if the tantruming toddlers and teenagers aren?t very good at showing it lol). Well done to Bella on her walking!!

Annie did the eczema coincide with going onto formula (sorry can?t remember if you bf and when)? I?ve read that can be linked with dairy sometimes, but obviously lots of other things could be a possible cause.

Twinkle ? clothes sizes make no sense do they? WELL DONE on going for the smear , glad the test itself wasn?t too bad.

Will check back later ladies - have good afternoons all xx

AnnieAlcoholLeft · 29/05/2007 14:30

Hi First . I don't know why it has just got really bad on her face recently. She's ff, only bf her for 6 weeks. She hasn't had any big change in her diet that I can think of. She does have dairy, in her cereal etc but always has done. Poor lil thing, it looks so sore.
I could be the manky carpet now that she's mobile perhaps.

HC Well done to Sophie!

x

Beadmum · 29/05/2007 15:15

pav - congrats to bella on walking

french - dd still not really crawling, she can go backwards (helped by wooden floors), she sometimes leans forward really far from sitting and we think shes about to do it, then sits back up again

hc - glad the ad's are working out for you and that youre much better wont be long til sophie is on the move now, well done to her

twinkle - glad you got smear over and done with and it went ok, pity they couldnt have handled it better to save you the stress at the beginning though

Annie - could it be the change in weather? i got diprobase cream for dd from hv when her skin had dry patches, think thats like emulisfying cream so not sure if that would help or not

numpty - great pics, good luck with the ad's, sure theyll help to level out your highs and lows

Aidan 19lb 12oz (10mth today)
Josh 19lb 4oz (10th and 1 wk)
Ella 16lb (10mth 1 wk)
Zack 16lb 11ozs (10 months 2 wks)
Bella - er...dont know was 15lb last time 6 weeks ago. sooo...er...16lb?! (HV annoys me so I stopped going...) (10 months, 29 days)
Charlotte - 20lbs i think (according to my scales - not been to hv for ages either) 10 months 3 weeks

Charlotte not been herself today, crying most of the day, she didnt wake up until 9am (usually 7am), just had 2 short naps, didnt eat much of her lunch. Shes got a runny nose and sounds a bit bunged up but not sure if its a cold coming on or her teeth, hope it passes soon tho. Been worse today cos been stuck in with this rubbish weather

sorry thats my moan over, enjoy the rest of your day ladies xx

pav and hc that's great about the walking and pulling up. pav - jacob does the same thing - tries to push himself up rather than pull up. he's nowhere near as advanced as bella though with walking. crawling backwards well but not forwards. he's learnt that rolling is the quickest way to get around and much prefers this method

jacob has a rash of spots on his right cheek - not quite eczema, but i think it's to do with the change in weather a bit. I am also really careful about makeup when holding him as he has really sensitive skin.

thanks pav for the tip on sep anxiety. i was also wondering what people thought about a cot bumper? we stayed away from them in case they stopped the air flow and he got too hot, but he is moving around so much in his sleep and bumping his head which i think is waking him up a coupe of times (at least it did last night).

getting him weighed at the paed on friday - a check up really as he is still vomitting a little but getting much better - but as he was so prem just want to check he is putting on weight well, and i get so frustrated when i go to HV that i haven't been for about 4 weeks now. but i think he'll be in with a lot of the lo's on here which is really comforting as i was so worried that on his actual age he was small (what we are told by hv's all the time) but he seems to be fairly normal (iykwim) weightwise.

twinkle glad the test was ok in the end grr at your surgery for being so cr*p though.

DH and i had a real talk this weekend - he is worried about me that i seem to be either very angry (in a strop as he says) or upset all the time - never just happy. Although I'm with numpty, when i'm great, i'm on fire! he asked if i wanted to get some help one day a week and all i coujld think of was i'd be failing at what i'm doing. think i should get myself to the doctors - any suggestions ladies? I guess i'm one of these hold it all together for everyone else and always seem totally together and on top of everything but in Rl it's probably a bit of the opposite. sorry it's a miniscule prob compared to what a lot of you on here have been through but wanted to see what you thought.

anyway, should go, jacob is sleeping so i might try and catch up on some sleep
