Expressing breastmilk

My DD will be six weeks at the weekend and we've made it to the 'golden time' (according to Health Visitors) to start introducing a bottle, boobie milk to start with then eventually lead onto formula. I am totally clueless on what I'm doing.

In my head this is what I'd like to happen; the last feed of the day (done about 11pm) done by my husband, not too much to ask is it?

my questions are; if I express twice a day can both amounts be added together? What do I do once I've expressed it, does it go straight in the fridge? Or does it need to cool? Does it need warming up before we attempting to feed baby? How do I warm it up? Put bottle in jug of hot water?

Do you think it's doable my idea? What do we do if she doesn't take the bottle? She won't entertain a dummy at the minute so that's panicking me.

We have a 4 year old little boy who never had a bottle and I breastfed him for 14 months, I do see my role as mum as the one who feeds baby so in a bit of a way I'm scared trying the bottle is gonna put her off the boob.

Please share any positive combination stories or any tips to try or avoid
Many thanks

I mixed bm expressed at different times of day.

It can go straight in the fridge.

It will need warming - hot water is fine - as the fat will separate out in the fridge and needs warming to melt back in.

If you just swirl it around, the fat will mix back in but fridge cold probably won't be very appetising.

Hiya! I exclusively expressed for just under 6 months in both of my pregnancies so I can help here!

Use the 6 6 6 rule for BM

It's fine 6 hours at room temperature. 6 days in the fridge. 6 months in the freezer.

You can mix it together from different sessions as long as it's less than 6 days old.

Give me a shout if you've got any questions x

I am bf my 16 wk old and my husband gives her a bottle on a Sunday afternoon when I am at work.

I don't get on very well with expressing so I express a little bit each day over the week with a nutrabond silicone breast pump. I get an oz or 2 while I'm feeding on the other side. Stick my little contributions in the freezer and then put them all together on a Sunday. Job done with very little interruption to bf.....
