Well done on the move Peachy - you haven't moaned about anything which I find absolutely amazing since you have a newborn and the rotten buyer stress! I on the other hand could moan for England about decorators and carpet cleaners but won't (for a change). Tried to post earlier in the week but inexplicably lost it so accept my apologies and sympathies to those who have had a bad time recently. DD is a bit greedy leading up to bedtime (8pm) still and teatime (6.30pm) is the hardest time of day since DS gets a bit hyper then too. I have given up with the dreamfeed since it doesn't make any difference she still wants to feed at 3am. I figure this will just gradually move to 4/5/6 (one lives in hope!) DD is doing great though. Into the 3-6mth clothes this week and loving her baby gym but hating tummy time. We're off on hols tomorrow for a week to Bournemouth where DH is playing tennis so won't be on for a while. Cross your fingers for sunny weather! When we get back I'm going to try to get DS in a bed from his cot and potty train so that'll be fun (unless we go to visit some friends). Hope everyone has a good week!

andyrobo237 · 26/05/2007 08:39

peach - sounds like a great move! Hope your new pad is ship shape soon!

T is now managing to go rom a 10 - 11pm feed through to 4am!! It is still hard getting up then though!! Roll on when we can get up at 6am - I wouldnt mind getting up then and staying up (on a school day!!). He is still not drinkng anymore than 4oz at a time though - he must have a little tum!

We are off to dancing today (DD) and then a party and then a BBQ - hope the weather improves - it is overcast at the moment - could go either way!

SmudgeMum · 26/05/2007 18:23

Evening all. Andyrobo I hope the BBQ is finished already if the weather is anything like here - it's throwing it down! It sounds like quite a few of us are off on holidays. We're counting down - less than 2 weeks to go! At the moment DS is in quite a nice nighttime sleep routine so I hope the plane journey and time diff don't mess it all up. Peachy - sounds good to be in your house now but what a palaver! Anyone doing anything nice for the bank holiday?

peachygirl · 26/05/2007 21:02

Hi things good here DD has gone to bed at 8:30!!!
on the house front our toilet was runnning and we got the plumber round and he has to hack a hole in the bathroom to access the cistern(it was all built in) It looks at right mess but we have a friend whose DH is a carpenter so we will get him to have a look at it.. I have been very stressed and upset about the move but just haven't complined about it on here.
My pair of crocs arrived today... mmmm

OP posts:
suzi2 · 26/05/2007 21:15

oooh, what colour are your crocs? I'm a VERy recent convert (my Red Mary Janes arrived on Thursday). I used to think they were ugly and was very sceptical about the comfort thing but I'm in love with them lol.

Sorry to hear about your loo...

Bienchen · 26/05/2007 21:38

Hi everyone - tried to catch up with what I have missed but there are a hundred posts!!!

We had a really great holiday - one dodgy day and a difficult evening. DD has slept through every night. She is now on formula for most of the day. I only breastfeed morning, lunchtime and evening. She is taking about 5 oz at every feed. We are getting lots of gurgling and "talking" now and she is a much happier baby.

Will try to catch up with posts over the next few days. Hope you have a great weekend despite the weather!!!

babydriver · 26/05/2007 22:10

Hi, just catching up after being on holiday for a week. We stayed in a cottage in Rye and had a lovely time, even with parents in tow. DS1 thought it was great - steam trains, castles, beaches etc, and DS2 took things pretty much in his stride, daytime at least. At night he's decided to wake at around half one (and usually be settled wihtout a feed) and then wake again at about 4 for a feed, and a poo if I'm really (un)lucky. A bit annoying as he'd got through to 5am for two nights before we went away, but I think now that he's teething and he also has a cough so all bets are off for now.

I haven't read all the threads in detail since last weekend, but a few comments on stuff I noticed...

marmitemad, we used a samsonite bubble for DS2 - very small and lightweight. Got it on kiddicare.com for £45. I was aiming to get one secondhand but am glad I didn't as the design of the mattress means you can't put a sheet in it. I safety-pinned a muslin to the head end instead.

peachy, glad you're in your new home now. As for bedtimes, not sure what to suggest, but what we did for DS2's 'dreamfeed' - and I'm contemplating for DS1 - is to give him a bottle of expressed milk at around 10:30, which he would chug very quickly and i could be sure he'd had a good amount. I'd then go downstairs and express for the next night. A bit of a faff but worth it if you get the sleep.

And for anyone having a bad day, (..week..month) a book I read last time and found really supportive was "What mothers do" by Naomi Stadlen. Makes you feel OK about spending all day on the sofa feeding, if that's what you have to do.

Looking forward to your website moosma, hope you have a good break.

andyrobo237 · 27/05/2007 20:56

i reckon we are teething here - lots of red cheeks and dribbling - i had jsut bought in some teething gel and Ashton powders and stocked up on Calpol as we are off to Center Parcs on Friday for the weekend - didnt want to pay their over inflated prices of baby medicines (if indeed they sell them!!). I need to get some form of teether for T tomorrow as my finger is not the most hygenic idea! It is a little early for teething, but his sister had her first tooth at 16 weeks.

The BBQ was ok yestreday - no rain but a little cold, and T was off his m ilk but enjoyed lots of cuddles with my friends mum! There was a 3 week old baby there - like a little doll - she was born 6 weeks early (!!) and is now 3 weeks old and weighs 5 13!!! Over protective parents wouldnt let anyone hold her (quite understandable and I wouldnt have fancied having a go as she is far too delicate) - she was also an IVF baby so is very precious. Seems to be thriving though!

Maazaa · 29/05/2007 21:57

Evening all

Much teething activity here. Dentinox much in use and sparingly using Calpol. I've heard the ibuprofen version works well for teething but not tried it yet.

Jacob is five months this week! Can't believe it how time has flown. He's weighing nearly 15 pounds. We've been trying a little baby rice this week - just a couple of spoonfuls at lunchtime. I know the new ruling is wean from 6 months, but I want him on pureed food by the time I go back to work in July. I'm only in for 3 weeks before the school hols, but I want to be the one to wean him, otherwise he'll be 7 months.

We're off to Cornwall for a week in ten days time - very much looking forward to it - hope the weather picks up. Your holiday sounded lovely babydriver.

Well done on the move, Peachy!

suis · 29/05/2007 23:34

Our weekend away at the wedding went abolutely splendidly. After all that worrying about outfits and going without DP it was all fine. I had a team of 6 friends also there who were falling over themselves to help, DP had bought the most lovely outfit for DS, I had finally sorted out a reallly nice dress that hid all the lumpy bits, looked fashionable and let me bf.. all for £12 in Primark. DS was a total star.. he slept through a 4 hour car journey with only a brief feed stop, he slept in the bar that night, he slept through the ceremony and the meal, was quietly bfed during the speeches, played with everyone during the first half of the ceildh and slept through the second half, and didn't even stir when he was carried upstairs to our room at 1am. He slept from 10:30 to 7:30 both nights we were away, smiled at everyone and wasn;t even sick down his wedding outfit (well.. maybe a wee bit). He has been pretty cranky since we got home but I think it was just the excitement over the weekend catching up. All in all a very successful weekend..

peachygirl · 30/05/2007 21:48

suis sounds like you had a great time at the wedding.
I'm interested in you having the baby rice Maazaa Like you I am going back for three weeks at the beginning of July but I'm going to try to wean in the summer holidays.
DH is having Babypeachy for these three weeks (give or take a few days) and I don't want to give him more to stress about.
We went to john lewis at the weekend and spent lots of money on lampshades. I bought two lovely things for BP
thisand this she is enjoying them lots especially the bunny.

Long time no post... my excuse being that time is even more stretched since I am now officially a single mum - SM? I'm not sure if there is an anacronym for a &%@"&#! so I shall just report that 'he' has gone off to live in another country (and we're not talking Wales). As it's been going on for a while I'm now in a nice routine of feeding, bathing, dressing, mopping up the surprise 'sprinkle' (which happens so often just as I'm getting the nappy on it's no longer a surprise), strapping Don'tCallMyMummyYummy in THE GODSEND (bouncy chair) with his black and white images cloth book before I put my porridge on a super-low heat, do my Olympic sprint to the bathroom, shower and be dressed and breakfasted before DCMMY has realised the Milk Factory has left the room.
I don't know if there are any other SM's out there but if so could you offer some advice? My family aren't here but visit often and I do have a fantastic network of friends who come round and cook and help out - one friend went to the loo and took so long I thought she must have eaten something wrong on the way here but it turns out she was cleaning my bathroom! My friends rock. So we're doing just fine and one day &%
@"&#! will realise just how much he missed in these early never-get-em-back-again months. Today me and DCMMY are going to a local One O'Clock Club - a free playsession in a special little building in the park for children under 5. Am going to wear my PLEASE BE MY FRIEND tshirt in order to woo me some local mumchums, I need to, the girls at my local baby shop are starting to wonder if I've moved in.

marmitemad · 31/05/2007 22:26

Hi everyone,
Am feeling much better now but DD still has a snotty nose. We have had a really busy week here so haven't been on the computer much.
Saturday was the in laws surprise 40th anniversary party which DH masterminded. Went very well, yummy dinner and I had several glasses of wine as DH was driving . My sister looked after DD and we picked her up on the way home, I was a little worried but all went ok.
Sunday was the actual anniversary day and DHs birthday so everyone came to our house for indian takeaway. Very miserable day but somehow we managed to fit everyone (20 people - I had to borrow plates and cutlery!!!!) in our house as we couldn't go outside.
On Tuesday I went back to Rosemary Conley class to the dreaded weigh in. Enjoyed the exercise but was very distressed to find I have only lost 1/2 stone since giving birth, must stop eating so much especially now I'm not BF
Finally ordered a travel cot today, went for this one as it folds up really small for flying.
Am very excited tonight as I am going for afternoon tea at Claridges tomorrow with the girls although this is not good for the waistline . Last year we went to the Ritz and I could not stop eating chicken mayonnaise sandwiches (I must have had about 15 ) but I was about 1 week pregnant and didn't know it. BTW have you seen that there is already a Feb 08 ante-natal thread , time is going so quickly.
On Saturday we are going to Stratford upon Avon with DHs family so DD will have her first night in a hotel, hoping it goes well
Suis - glad to hear the wedding went well
DCMY - Sorry you have been having a bad time, sorry no advice but I'm sure you are doing a great job.
Peachy - Good to hear you are finally in the new pad despite the hiccup, whereabouts is it? (if I'm not being too nosy!)
sorry for the rambling.....

Bienchen · 01/06/2007 13:49

Hi all, I have given up reading the whole thread, just done the last few days.
DCMY - sorry to hear about you being a single Mum. I was one for about 10 years (started when DS was 8 months), so have a pretty good idea what life can be like being on your own. Have no family in this country, so that did not help either. I think your attitude is great!

MM - enjoy the day!!

Suis - glad you enjoyed the wedding.

DD had her first night in the cot! The mattress was promptly delivered by John Lewis and after a good airing we put her in the cot to sleep. She woke twice briefly at about 5am but I managed to settle her again and she slept till 7:30

I should be studying now that she has gone down for a nap but we are having a new roof for the house done next week and the scaffolding is going up, a bit noisy!

MoosMa · 01/06/2007 17:39

I'm back from holiday, DD2 was brilliant and DD1 had a whale of a time!

Glad your wedding went well Suis and others having trips away etc.

Sorry to hear your news DCMY, I hope you find your feet soon and enjoy your singledom.

My site is nearly ready, just need DH to look over it tonight and check my spelling! I shall open for business tomorrow morning...

hairycaterpillar · 01/06/2007 19:56

Well most of all these well behaved sleeping at night babies. My Ben is reverting to newborn status and is dreadful at night just now waking hourly...sometimes every half hour. To make things worse he's just had a cold and the only way he'd sleep was upright on my or DH's chest. I feel more tired now than in the weeks after he wa born . On the positive thugh he can be a real smiler and loves attention with lots of gurgles and chuckles...especially for his big bro and sis.

DCMY - hope your ok sounds like your a strong type and have good supportive friends around.

Moosma - glad to hear holiday was good. eagerly awaiting your website opening will there be a champagne reception with yummy canapies

Snugglebumnappies - I am LOVING my new nappies they are fab and sooooo absorbant am a total bamboo fan now! Thanks!

peachygirl · 01/06/2007 21:24

Hi all, sorry to hear your news yummy But it sounds like you have some great friends.
Marmite have a lovely time at claridges. I've been to the Ritz for tea too and Fortnum and Masons is very nice. We have moved to Purley another part of Croydon which is much nicer... I knew it was right when on Sunday pm I heard someone practicing a musical insturment. Previously I had heard youths arguing!!
Stratford is lovely. Hope you have a good time.
Moosma, do we need to dress up for the grand opening?? When will the ribbon be cut?

OP posts:
flowertot · 01/06/2007 21:57

DCMYM
I am a SM too. DD(3 years) and I left home at about 34 weeks pregnant. Best thing I have ever done, though obviously very hard. Know what you mean about the dash in the shower, though I normally put DS in his 'godsend' next to the shower so he can see and hear me. Unfortunately DH is not in another country, things may be a damn sight better if he were!
Hardest thing I find is evenings alone. I try to get friends popping in every now and then so I have something to look forward to. DS is still being a pain at night so have decided to start doing a 10.30-11pm dream feed, then instead of feeding him back to sleep every time he wakes, trying to settle him without so that maybe in the end he will give up waking! Washful thinking I guess, but there is no way he needs to feed every 2 hours at night. But because our nights are so disjointed, the hardest thing is now staying awake to do the dream feed!
Good luck on your own anyway. You sound like you are doing just fine

Ohhh I am so excited, Moosma it looks fab, really lovely, can you do e commerce sites?

Hairycatapiller, glad you like them, the quality just seems so much better than the Tots Bots these days.

DCMY, was a single parent for 4 years with DS1 and I loved it, no stresses about anyone else just the two of you. It's great when they are little as you can just get up and go on days out or a weekend away with them without thinking can DP/DH come along and are you being selfish going on your own if they can't. No arguements about parenting decisions and I loved the peace and solitude I had, just me and my LO. You will manage just fine and be so proud of yourself for doing so.

Flowertot it must be much harder with two LOs, I think you deserve a huge pat on the back (and glass of wine) for doing such a good job

Peachy, glad to hear the house move went well and that you are settled

Suis, again, it's good to hear the wedding was enjoyable after the worries of outfits and babies

Hope everyone who is going away enjoys their holiday, it's always good to hear about new child friendly places!

MoosMa · 02/06/2007 13:47

I did a grand opening here this morning but lots of people complained, I got told off and my posts got deleted Turns out I was breaking the rules, so now I've been good and paid up to have a proper advert here

hairycaterpillar · 02/06/2007 19:26

Oh like the site Moosma...is it one of your beautiful DD's on the homepage?

MoosMa · 02/06/2007 20:19

It is, it's DD1 when she was about the age that DD2 is now

forgottenfreetime · 03/06/2007 22:13

Hi, I'm back from hols but DH is now going to work in Norway for a week so I'm going to visit a friend in Felixstowe, so I may not be on for a while again. Our holiday was a mixed bag really. Good idea to rent a house rather than stay in a hotel, gave us lots more freedom. DH was a bit of a pain at times. Somehow he didn't seem to realise that you can't go to the beach for just 5 minutes with a 2.5 yr old. Lots of tantrums as you can imagine when we had to rush off to the tennis! Ruth kept up her usual broken nights but was generally very good. DS is getting a bit better with her so that was a big relief. Glad to hear that things are going well for most of you and sending goof vibes to those coping with probs like hourly waking or alone.

Website looks great Moosma - will try to get my act together to use it when I get back!
