Thought it was about time!!

Sounds good suis. Just give me a couple of weeks notice and I'm usually about
Peachy, I'm very sweaty when I'm bf or after I've had kids or something. And all deoderants seem to smell weird on me. I'm now using mitchum which is heavy duty and I think it really helps.

We're also thinking about potty training with DS. He's 2 next month and is great at telling me (with a point and grunt!) that he's about to do a poo, and often about to do a wee. But do you think I can coax him to sit still on the loo or potty? Do you get ones with harnesses to strap them down lol. He's hit the terrible twos and it's really scary

MoosMa · 07/07/2007 16:50

suzi2 I often give DD some junk mail or free catalogue or something to keep her occupied for a few minutes if she's got the fidgets!

Oh how nice it is to have a bit of sunshine, I actually enjoyed my walk today

marmitemad · 07/07/2007 17:51

well we are back from a very wet (but not flooded) Lake District. Had a lovely realxing time, cottage was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by stunning views and sheep and cows which dd loved talking to.
we did manage a quick trip to the beach at Seascale but it was very windy.

I need some advice now if anyone is about?

First few days away were okish with nights and the different water but on Thursday morning dd was very unsettled and wouldn't feed, normal temp but after 1 hour screaming we gave her some Nurofen, she eventually took 4oz carton milk (normal feed 6oz), rest of day was still unsettled, with screaming fits and intermittant feed rejection. She ended the day with only 4 feeds and 24oz milk (normally 5 feeds and 30oz).

Friday more of the same behaviour, 3 feeds and 19oz

So far today she has had 3 feeds and 16oz but slept most of the way home.

I did wonder if it was teeth bothering her and was not too concerned at first but its now been going on for 3 days and the milk consumption seems to be getting lower. Still no temperature though and she has moments of being perfectly happy. I think I will ring the dr on Monday if there is no change by then but any advice from the more experienced out there would be much appreciated.

Pechygirl - glad work and childcare is going well, I have had a letter from work about my return and it suddenly looks very scary.

Hello to everyone else, I will try to catch up more tomorrow.

MoosMa · 07/07/2007 19:34

Marmitemad, DD2 did this when we went on holiday too, I also panicked and went to the dr. He said there was nothing wrong and told me to wait and see. Since then she's gone almost back to normal, having 4 feeds (30oz) rather than 5 feeds (37oz) and is growing fine. It may have just been the disruption that's thrown her, I should give her a few days at home to settle down and see what she does...

andyrobo237 · 07/07/2007 21:29

Marmitemad - We are going through the same here - he has been a pain to feed for the last three days - taking 2 or 3 oz at each feed (nirmally has 4 or 5oz) and then refusing another feed three hours later - today he had 4oz at 4am, he drank 1oz at 9am and i had to syringe 3oz into him (with a 5ml medicine syringe - took aged!!), of which about 1oz must have dribbled out!! he drank 5oz at 1.30pm, 1.75oz at 5pm and then 6oz at 8pm - totals 20oz - usually has 30 - 35oz. He has a little cough and a unny nose - sounds like a cold, plus I think he is teething as well!! Poor chap - ws ok in between until 4pm then was a grumpy beggar - maybe the weather is affecting them all!!! Spoke to the pharmacist - all they could offer was Calpol - he doesnt have a temp, but I have been giving it for his sore throat. Hope tomorrow is better!

Babydriver - interesting about the dreem feed - we have been giving T a bottle at 10pjm or 11pm when he is asleep - which he drains, but still wakes up at 3 or 4am. We had jsut discussed dropping it to see what time he wakes up - he has only managed to sleep through once and he is now 20 weeks - so it is getting a bit wearing!!

We also had sun here today - made a refreshing change! Hope everyone else is ok and has a fab weekend!

babydriver · 07/07/2007 22:01

I think the babes are communicating telepathically! DS2 was quite unsettled last night and through his naps today, and has not bfed for as long as usual. For us, I reckon it's teething given the amount of dribble down his front and his fingers permanently stuffed in his chops. Some people reckon that the act of suckling irritates or hurts the gums so that's why teething babies drink less. DS also gets a bit of nappy rash and a bit of a cough with all the extra dribble going down his throat.

Haven't started weaning yet, but we have been putting DS2 into his highchair at the table while we eat and he seems very happy to be up at our height.

Hope all the LOs have a better day tomorrow.

peachygirl · 08/07/2007 17:08

There must be something going on!!! DD has been just like this too the last couple of days and has been bad during the night.

OP posts:
marmitemad · 08/07/2007 20:27

good to know its not just us suffering .

Today has been a little better with the feeds and we have increased to 7oz to see if that helps to recover some of the losses.

My mum started saying that she is probably ready for weaning if she is refusing milk but I really want to hold out for as long as possible.

We are going to HV baby group tomorrow so will get her weighed and have a chat with someone.

Sallyallyally · 09/07/2007 10:17

Just had a weekend at the beach. Went out for dinner on Saturday (like a blinkin' travelling circus!)at yacht club. Henry has been very happily enjoying his spoonfull of apple/pear/banana/carrot (not all together). Was sat on my lap during dinner whilst i attempted to eat soup (leaning off to the side so nothing hot went over his head.) He had been quite grumpy, so was pleased to see he was sitting happily sucking his fingers...or...one second...that's not his fingers...arghh....so as well as fruit purees Henry has also eaten half a piece of garlic bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now before you all shout at me...surely that is a prime example of baby led weaning! .

daizydoo · 09/07/2007 20:36

Can I ask you all to talk quieter please? All this talk of babies being upset and unsettled - I think my LO has been listening to you all!!! Last night he was screaming unconsolably - thankfully Calpol saved the day! Either he's got my cold or more likely he's teething.

I'm feeling quite sorry for myself as I've had a stinking cold and conjunctivitis and to top it off today the mortgage company will reduce their mortgage offer by £28,000 if I go back to work part time. So I've got to work full time . Thankfully (I think!) I can work 12hr shifts so it'll still be 3 days a week.

I'm still chuckling at your little one sallyally!

forgottenfreetime · 09/07/2007 20:42

LOL Sallyallyally, not sure Garlic Bread is in the first finger foods category! But hey he won't get bitten by midges on the shore!
DS is 2 and 5 months Moos, actually I was probably a bit premature in my last post. Since then he has had to be bribed to sit on the potty and no action has resulted, so back to just suggesting it. And the old reverse psychology "No, no, you shouldn't sit on there!" said jokily seems to do the trick. Would be nice to be done by the end of the summer but no rush really. Your daughter seems to be well away with things though if you get most poos in potty and wees on demand. Can she pull down her clothes? That is something else I need to work on with DS.

SmudgeMum · 09/07/2007 20:43

Evening everyone. W've only just got back from our holiday as we ended up having to stay an extra week and a bit because DH had an ear infection. There are worse places to be stuck than the Caribbean (especially when we heard about all the floods in England!)
I would be up for a meet up if I'm not too late. I'm in Newcastle but used to be in Nottingham so might be able to make it down there. Dominic is getting very quick at rolling over and creeping. he loved swimming in the sea and drinking lots of sea water. I think I've just about caught up on everyone's news. Glad everyone seems to have retained their sense of humour despite the sleepless nights. We're at about 4 wakings in the night at the moment because he has got used to that from the hot weather!

forgottenfreetime · 09/07/2007 20:46

Colds here too by the way, DS is having lots of tantrums with his but I must admit DD is an angel (just a very snotty, snuffly one)!
Daisy are you sure you can work 12 hour shifts - I do 8am to 6.30 with half an hour for lunch (x 3 days) and I think I'm really close to the limit with EU rules. It works out to 4 days FT equivalent. But can't you also go back to work full time to get the mortgage and then request PT hours?

peachygirl · 09/07/2007 21:06

daizydoo we had uncontrollable screaming too last night and we also resorted to calpol!!
I also went for the formula for the dream feed and she slept for an extra hour on top of what she has done the last week or so.

Its good to hear I'm not the only one with a screaming baby - but have you noticed how much louder their screams are now, or do I just have a really loud baby?!

Where I work we are employed to work 150 hours a month and I choose to work 12hour shifts, as do many people I work with. I vaguely remember signing an opt out for something - cant remember what though!! I can't work anymore than 3 days a week as my childcare wouldn't work out. I just want to get the wretched thing sorted out seen as we are already on our 2nd house!!

My LO is currently fast asleep, which is virtually unheard of this early - so here's to a quiet night for everyone

suis · 09/07/2007 23:30

Daizy.. Sandy has discovered shouting too... "I've got a loud voice and I'm going to use it" style... even when he's perfectly happy.

suis · 10/07/2007 00:26

suzi2 - we are heading off to Grantown for a wee holiday next week, but we must sort something out for after that.... I'm pretty clear once that's out the way..

marmitemad · 12/07/2007 09:50

Feeding back to normal here, thank goodness. Usual short upsets but nothing that Dentinox/Anbesol/cuddles doesn't sort out.

Had dd (20 weeks)weighed yesterday, 14lb 10oz, and still following the 50% line.

Also spent morning at nursery yesterday and am now confused again about which to go for, thought I had decided on CM but the nursery is really lovely and fun.

We got the seat unit down for the pram last night as dd is getting bored not being able to see out in the car seat/carry cot. It says do not use until 6 months but I reckon its probably ok now as long as I keep it mostly reclined? (will put a picture on my profile for anybody interested - I love looking at other pictures)

Have also arranged to go and look at a Maclaren Quest from a MNetter next Friday, only £30, so feeling quite pleased about that.

Sorted out dd's wardrobe yesterday to sell some/return some as she has far too many clothes to wear, its quite embarassing to see the excess.

Sallyallyally · 12/07/2007 10:33

Husbands. ARGHHHHHHHHHH .!!!!!!!!!! Thats all. Too wound up to type.

marmitemad · 12/07/2007 10:41

Sallyallyally - Have some chocolate or gin

forgot to say - dd is also sitting up for approx 5 mins if we get the bum position right!

suis · 12/07/2007 12:09

Sally...have both !

I'm sure we've all been there at some point in recent months (although shouting PARTNERS ! AAARRGGH ) doesn't have the same ring to it )but we can all sympathise.

Sallyallyally · 12/07/2007 12:56

Hic!!

SmudgeMum · 12/07/2007 15:12

Sallyallyally I hope the gin and chocolate worked and that you have sorted him out!!
We've had a tough couple of days as DS started being sick on Tuesday night and was then sick every 15 mins for the next 3 hours. it was quite scary and NHS direct became our best friend. He's on the mend now but wanted to have full feeds straight away and got quite upset when I wouldn't let him feed for longer than 5 mins at first. He's now got used to it so hoping he'll change back to longer feeds soon. My boobs were about ready to burst as my breast pump had broken and a friend was sending me hers so I didn't want to go and get another one. Anyway, it arrived today and I no longer look like Jordan (boobs wise obviously!)

Isn't it lovely that our LO are taking more interest in everything. Anyone know how to bottle them and keep them litte?

SmudgeMum · 12/07/2007 15:16

Marmitemad, meant to say that if DD is starting to sit up then I'm sure it's fine to put her in the seat bit of the pushchair but maybe not for long periods yet. I know what you mean about the clothes. DS has nearly grown out of his 3-6 month stuff so I'm just cracking open the next box of clothes from DSIL. I can't believe how much stuff he's got. Saying that, we used every one of his babygros when he was ill so maybe a good thing! Anyone starting to think about high chairs? We've not started weaning yet as he's quite happy on milk but he does like to be at our level. Any hints, tips or advice from second timers?

MoosMa · 12/07/2007 16:28

I have used a booster seat instead of a highchair when they're tiny, I found they stay sitting up better as you can push the tray up to their tummy and it keeps them in place! We've got two a bit like this.
