Babies born July/August 04

Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Hello everyone, sorry not to have been around much recently!

DS3 going through a really unsettled spell - can't decide if it's wind or teeth or both - he's really grizzly all day and waking up lots at night. Quite tiring. My mother seemed surprised today that I hadn't organised a Halloween party for the older DSs - yeah right!

DS3 was weighed yesterday - 15 lbs 6oz now. Is anyone else's baby already wearing 6-12 month vests and sleepsuits? I think I am going to have to get some for DS3!

hermykne · 29/10/2004 18:43

hi dino
my ds is in 6-12mth, hes 16/8.
and bit unsettled with wind too - extremely tiring, dd v busy as well.
i got invitated to a halloween party!!

MrsEvs · 29/10/2004 19:20

hello, I'm new too Mumsnet too, had Phoebe on 27th July though so really great to read how others are getting on at her age and stage.

hermykne · 29/10/2004 20:43

mrsevs
hi and welcome, your dd is 3 days older than my ds. hows it been? is this your first?

Quackers · 29/10/2004 20:51

Welcome again to new Mumsnetters!! Great to have you here!
Dino - you;re back!! Good to hear from you!

Well I've been very lucky and G has slept 7-6.30 the last 3 nights and fed like a trooper in the day. Carwillin, like your little gem she won;t sleep much in the day and feeds 3 hourly but hey what the hell if the nights are good. I've had a bag tummy bug though so been up all night anyway, hoping I'll feel the effect of this full night thing unless she decides to revert back for a while. That's fine though, she's only 11 pounds so it;s a bit early to expect no wakings yet! Think it must be the Calpol for the teething!

MrsEvs · 29/10/2004 21:14

Yep she is my first and I'm loving it. She has been a dream, slept through the night from 3 weeks old and has only woken me twice since then.

Hasn't all been easy, she wouldn't BF (tried EVERYTHING) so have had to express for her all this time, then at a week old we found out my husband had to move for work, so spent the first few weeks on my own during the week while he spent Mon - Fri in Washington DC. Moved there when she was 6 weeks old and have been living in a hotel ever since!! Have found a house but there have been delays getting in. Hopefully be in on Monday. Hate moving house, have to find new doctors etc

Think having a good baby was my reward for all the other sh*t I've had to deal with!

HelloMama · 29/10/2004 21:24

dinosaur, we are going through exactly the same stage as you. Ruben has suddenly become grizzly in the day - feeding every couple of hours (including through the night as well). I think this is my punishment for being quite smug about him sleeping so well recently My boobs dont know what to make of it all so have become engorged again which has made feeding painful and me leaky all over the place. Its like being back at the beginning again.... Has made me feel quite down in the dumps.

MrsEvs · 29/10/2004 21:31

Poor Hellomamma

I'm sure your boobs will soon adapt again though and the 2 hrly feeding won't last - prob just a growth spurt.

Hope you get some kip tonight

HelloMama · 29/10/2004 21:41

thanks MrsEvs. am just feeling sorry for myself as am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired. never mind [keeps repeating 'its just a phase' mantra as she shuffles away to bed]!

MrsEvs · 29/10/2004 21:46

Good night, God bless

sweetkitty · 30/10/2004 11:31

Aww sorry to hear you are so tired HM, DP took Abbie this morning so I could get an hours extra kip (bliss).

She must be so tiny compared to your boys, she not even in 3-6 month clothes yet, think girls are a bit smaller anyway. She's loving her baby massage now but still a bit of a nightmare to get to sleep. She gets very grizzly you know she's tired but she won't go off to sleep (unless you hold her) once she gets there she's usually OK most nights she goes from 12-7am. We get a great day then a bad day with her.

Am starting to lose the plot with the house move another buyer never turned up last night

sponge · 30/10/2004 13:33

What giant babies you all have.
I weighed Harry this morning and he's about 13lb7oz, bang on the 50th centile at 12 weeks, but still only just creeping into 3-6 month stuff and the 0-3 still works. Onto size 3 nappies though!
He feeds at least 3 hourly, often only goes 2.5 hours without a feed during the day, but so far we haven't had more than one wake up in the night for ages and he settles quite easily - touch wood.
He's also started to laugh recently. So cute .
Yesterday my in-laws took him for a few hours and I went out for a girly lunch - with wine and everything. Bliss. I felt almost like a normal adult for a wee while .

milklady · 30/10/2004 21:38

Hi all

Thanks for your reassurances re feeding.

Gosh they are big babies! Callum was 13/4 yesterday but is in some 3-6s now as he's too tall for 0-3. He has been going through a grizzly phase as well. He's dribbling everywhere and constantly sucking as many fingers as he can cram into his mouth (even in preference to my boob sometimes!), so we think he's teething. However, I have only recently discovered (thanks to MN) that the grizzling is because he's tired - he never used to sleep during the day before. If he doesn't get enough sleep in the afternoon he gets really cranky and can bawl for Britain in the early evening.

He generally cries less now and is really quite chatty making loads of unbearably cute noises. The only downside to this is that his old hunger cues have gone, so I'm having to relearn to spot when he's hungry - otherwise he gets fed every 2.5 - 3 hours now.

I'm jealous! For those with babes sleeping through:
1 - are you breastfeeding?
2 - how many times do you feed during the day?

Quackers · 30/10/2004 21:43

Hi, not breastfeeding now. I'm starting the day at 7 to 7.30 and getting 30 ounces into her up to 7pm. It seems to work well for us!

tangerinecath · 30/10/2004 22:31

Hi everyone!
I posted much earlier in the thread but haven't been back for a while, I'm a bit of a habitual lurker but am trying to be more sociable now!
dd is now 17 weeks and is 15lb 14oz, she's breastfed and is sleeping though the night, she has been since she was about 4 or 5 weeks, I must be the luckiest Mummy around !
Like Milklady's ds she's making loads of cute cooing noises, sometimes I think she's trying to have a conversation as she'll gurgle, then wait for me to talk to her, then she'll gurgle again.
She's also dribbling a lot and she chews her hands, my Mum said that I wasn't much older than her when I started teething, so I'm keeping an eye out for those little teeth - but she soesn't seem to be in any pain so I don't think anything's happening yet.
I'm off to bed now - mustn't forget to change the clocks before I go!!

MrsEvs · 01/11/2004 06:42

Milklady, I am breastfeeding to a fashion (see my note below, I express every feed). Phoebe isn't an early morning baby (lucky me ;)), wakes up just after 10 and feeds every 2.5 to 3 hrs in the day, so usually has 5 feeds occasionally 6 if he's having a hungry day. Goes down about 7.30/8 but wakes again at 10 for a last bottle, then goes through the night.

She is also the dribble queen at the moment! Her tops are constantly soaked and she is chewing anything she can get her mouth near. I thought that at coming up to 14 weeks it was too early for teething but sounds like lots of you are having the asme experience, which is always reassuring

SpringChicken · 01/11/2004 07:04

We have just got a new puppy and me and the puppy are awake but DD is still fast asleep in her cot! Was banking on the dog waking me up before DD did.

DD has got her 2nd batch of injections next week, she was meant to have them about 3 weeks ago but has had a really bad cold so hasn't been able to.

What i though was a tooth seems t have dissappeared now but DD is still chewing on anything possible and dribbling loads - i have to take a change to top out when we go anywhere cos she gets into a rigt state.
She is getting so big now - her features are changing virtually every day - she is gettng really porky in her face.
I just want to squeeze her and eat her - i find myself having to put her down sometimes as i get a bit carried away

SpringChicken · 01/11/2004 07:04

Wasn't banking on the dog waking me up before DD!

See, it's too early for all this lark!

Eshay · 01/11/2004 08:50

Hi all,

I'm not new to Mumsnet but I only discovered this thread yesterday. I did, however, meet some of you a while ago at a London mums meet up so it's good to read how you are all doing.
For those of you who weren't there: My ds was born 8 July (edd 24 June) and he is dribbling and trying to chew on everything like many of your babies. The past 2 nights we have had to put some Calgel on his gums in order for him to be able to settle. I keep trying to feel for teeth but I'm not sure how easy that is. He's been doing great, usually waking up once per night. Last night he slept straight through but I woke up every 2 hours worrying if he was okay. Other than that, he always wants to stand!

SpringChicken · 01/11/2004 09:19

Hi Eshay.

My DD is the same - if you put her in any other position apart from upright (apasrt from bedtime) she screma her head off! Think she is just nosey like her mum

littlerach · 01/11/2004 09:29

Good morning, we have had some excellent nights again, going 10 til 7, however, DD1 has a nasty cough and has been up at 4am the past couple of days!

Evie is dribbling loads, seem to remember DD1 did too. She has 5 feeds of 6 oz a day, doesn't always empty the bottle. She weighs 10 14, on the 20th centile.

sleeplessmumof2 · 01/11/2004 13:01

Hi everyone, hope you dont mind me joining you now, > hopefully better late than never. my ds2 was born on 14th August great birth but all sorts took over and never got round to writing and announcement have from time to time read the thread and great to hear how on the whole everyone is gettin on fine . Can anyone give me any advice about getting ds out of his cockeyed night routine. He is currently sleeping from 7/8pm till 1/1.30am and then wakes at 5 ish for 1-2 oz but really just needs a cuddle and ends up in bed with us till 7am, not really moaning but would love to get the timings right, waking him at 11pm doesnt help just seems to make him wake at 3 or 4am and again at 6.am any clues would be really appreciated. thanks

littlerach · 01/11/2004 14:42

We carried on with the dreamfeed, and it was only last week that it worked. Took a couple of weeks for it to take effect.

sponge · 01/11/2004 15:01

Sleeplessmum have you tried a dummy for the 5am wake up? He might just want the comfort of something to suck on.
Springchicken I'm like you with wanting to hug and kiss Harry all the time. I was watching him sleep the other day and actually started crying because he looked so beautiful. How soppy is that .
Reading all the posts it seem that chewing everything and dribbling is maybe just something they do at this stage. I can't remember with dd but they can't all be teething really early surely.

Eshay · 01/11/2004 15:31

On the subject of chewing:
I just came back from baby yoga and the other babies there are all around 5 months so a little older than our little ones. During a relaxation exercise I was listening to all the noises the babies were making, all of them seemed to be chewing their fists as hard as they could. It sounded a bit like a slobbering dog at times. None of them have any teeth yet so this seems to be something that they will do for quite a while yet. It was nice to see other babies behave just like my DS and some of them are even louder
