Hello everyone. My DS2 was born on July 4th and I have been waiting for a "Babies born in July" thread since then, but none has appeared! (at least I don't think it has). So I thought I should start one, I didn't have Mumsnet for DS1 and I wish I had. I thought it should be July/August since almost all of the July babies were/are late! How is it going for you all?

Hah, spoke too soon!! Sat and sun night she has woken at 2am and 5am, yuck yuck!!! Luckily DH gets up early anyway!! I swear that this is because she is finally taking between 5 and 6 ounces per bottle!

SpringChicken · 18/10/2004 20:04

Evening All,

Been so busy haven't had chance to catch up.
Evie has got a terrible cold at the moment bless her - she is very clingy and just wants to be cuddled all the time - i'm a bit like this when i'm ill so she must get it from me. She was due her 2nd injections this week but isn;t allowed to have them at the mo.

We've just sold our house and bought a new one - should hopefully be in before Xmas which will be lovely - much bigger with much more space for the 3 of us.
God, i do chose the right time to do these stupid things don'ti?? Mind you, wasn't someone off the July thread moving whilst just about to drop? Was it you Sweetkitty?

Some of you might have seen my thread on my colleague who sadly lost a daughter on Friday night - she was 2 days old and slipped into a coma - so so sad

sweetkitty · 18/10/2004 22:42

nope wasn't me SC our house is on the market still no sniff of an offer

so sorry to hear about your colleague - doesn't even bear to think what she is going through

littlerach · 19/10/2004 10:06

It was me, SC!!! But we did it, and survived, so I am sure you will manage!! Just make sure that you have lots ofpeople to do it all for you!

dinosaur · 20/10/2004 17:27

Hiya all,

SC I'm so sorry about your colleague - how dreadful

Blake has been going down at 9 p.m. and sleeping a good long stretch - night before last he didn't wake up until 4.30 a.m., last night not until 3 a.m. - it's lovely! Mind you I am not counting any chickens as DS2 slept for six hour stretches for a while and then started waking up at 2 a.m. every night...

He's started laughing too - such a cute sound. He is enormous, has crashed through the 50th and 75th centiles and was on the 91st last time we looked, weighing in at a chunky 14 lbs 7 oz. He's very long as well.

We still haven't managed to get any of his 5-in-1 jabs yet...

HelloMama · 20/10/2004 17:36

hey all. SC, sorry to hear about your colleague - really sad news

we're doing ok. No vaccinations yet. Think I may wait until Ruben is 6 months old, but haven't fully decided. We haven't been to the baby clinic for about 3-4 weeks as things are ticking along nicely and its held between 9-11am on a tuesday and i'm not really that organised to go along at that time very often!

We're also thinking about moving, but looking around at what we can afford it isnt looking that good - I have ideas of a 3-4 bed house with garden, conservatory, picket fence, cul-de-sac - not likely in central london! never mind, we'll keep looking...!

sweetkitty · 20/10/2004 17:39

hiya Abbie officially 3 months old today, it's gone quick and looking back wasn't the nightmare I was told. Everyone says the first 3 months are the worst.

Went to Bluewater today forgot to take change of clothing so she pooed all her clothes, had to buy new outfit in Mothercare - she's still in 0-3 months clothes bless her she was 11lb 6ozs last week on 25th centile neither me or DP very tall though.

Quackers · 21/10/2004 21:00

Good to hear from you all! SC, so sorry to hear that news, I don;t even know them but it does upset me when I hear news like this.
Sweetkitty - do you know I always start my day with G between 7.15 and 7.45am and get in her 4 feeds and around 3.5 hrs day kip and have no probs now getting 12 hrs at night with a waking for feeding, going down around 7.15 at night now. just know my neighbour tried letting DS sleep till whenever and she can't bear the lack of routine now. I had this prob with DD1 and vowed to change that with DD2!!

keren143 · 21/10/2004 23:01

hi, I just found this thread. My ds was born July 17th...17 days late! He sleeps almost 20 hrs/day and as I am not working and don't have many friends (we just moved here (north london)), i find myself bored alot of the time. But I have been looking into baby massage, baby swim classes, etc
can't really have playgroups for a 3 month old. He doesn't really even acknowledge his toys yet. He loves staring at ceiling fans so I figured he would love a mobile. But, it doesnt catch his attention for long.
anyways, i'm babbling

nice to meet you all!!

littlerach · 22/10/2004 11:19

Welcome to MN!!!

Hurrah!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evie slept until 7am!!!!!!!!!!! Fed her at 10pm, hurrah!!!!

Am convinced it was the nit lotion that DD1 and I were covered in - the one day I didn't tie her hair back for nursery and she gets them!!! May have to use it every night!

She is finally filling out a bit. Still on 20th centile, so very dinky! And she is gurgling and cooing so much it is great!

sponge · 22/10/2004 11:59

Brilliant sleeping Littlerach.
Harry has gone through from 9.30/10 to 6.30/7 a couple of times but it's not a regular thing yet. He still mostly wakes up once in the night.
It's so cute when they start to talk to you isn't it? All that grinning and cooing, I love it .
On the downside having been a very unsicky baby he has now started puking after every feed. Not a lot and I know it's quite normal but it's still a pain to spend your life covered in baby sick and smelling a bit rancid (he always manages to miss the muslin) .
I wonder if he might be joining some of you in the early teething department. He has his hands in his mouth a lot, is dribbling a bit and I can see buds under the skinn although they're still well covered. Who knows?

Quackers · 22/10/2004 21:00

Sounds like it sponge poor mite. Georgina has teeth now coming through top and bottom both sides unfortunately. DD1 never had it this bad, we sailed through teething but diff this time. Having to use clpol before 3 months, but it works, there's no way I'm lettin gher suffer with the pain of teething, it's awful for them. Welcome to Mumsnet btw!!!!

HelloMama · 22/10/2004 21:25

welcome to mumsnet keren143!

hermykne · 22/10/2004 21:27

hi all
i've been posting all my problems with big bruiser fionn on other threads, to keep me off this one, he's 12wks today and 16 1/2lb. huge.
wind, no naps in the day, bit erratic from 3am til 6am, a divil. just about coping. dd as well is 2 and a bit cross these days.....

glad to hear everyones babies are doing well and nobody has any serious serious problems.

littlerach · 23/10/2004 08:22

And she did it again!!! Am starting to feel human having had 2 nights of sleep!!!

carwillin · 25/10/2004 08:52

Hermykne - I've got a big bruiser too, he was 10 9 born and at 12 weeks is now 17 13.

He still feeds every 3 hours during the day but is sleeping 7 til 7, so I can't complain although he is really bad at sleeping during the day and only has a couple of catnaps.

It's really nice to hear that all the babes are doing well, since the arrival of ds I've found that the internet has taken a back seat - must be time to get back into it esp. MN!!!

hermykne · 26/10/2004 11:15

carwillin thats big too.
my ds s due to be weighed today, looking forward to it.
he actually fell asleep this morn without the boob, trying a dummy, so maybe he'll get back on track for daytime napping.
wind though is a big problem for him, i can actually hear his tummy gurrgling alot of the time.

HelloMama · 26/10/2004 11:56

wow! we do have big boys! ruben was 9 2 at birth and is now 14 14 (12 weeks), so not quite as big as the others but still pretty hefty! He is a pretty good sleeper and normally goes 9pm to 5.30am and then until 8am after a feed which i can cope with ok. Am just starting to think about what to do about returning to work. It still seems like ages away, but everyone else I know is already getting organised. I havent even really thought about child care yet!

sweetkitty · 26/10/2004 22:41

hi all

Abbie got weighed this morning 12lb 4ozs so dainty in comparison to all these big boys! 14 weeks today as well.

She's a right madam to get to sleep but once there she can go for about 7 hours at night which is great. She is still co-sleeping with us (I know what have I done) I'm actually afraid to tell people she sleeps with us the look of shock I get and theres always someone who knows someone who co-slept and either squashed their baby or they were still co-sleeping aged 10. It's kind of needs must right now we can't get a full sized cot until we move house and she hates her crib!

milklady · 26/10/2004 23:45

Hi all

New to mumsnet and this thread too!

DS is 12 weeks on Thursday (born 5 Aug - 13 days late).

He hasn't slept through the night yet, but is still asleep now since 7pm (last feed at 5pm - boobs are starting to creak now). Oh if only that would happen after his late evening feed! No doubt I'll be up all night.

Only put on 3oz last week having been roaring through the centiles (91st for height but only 25th for weight at birth). He'd not been feeding properly (pulling off, pooing, not feeding outside house, not being happy with me sitting up), so HV suggested baby rice but I held off and have been feeding every 1.5-2hrs as I think he's too young for solids.

Rachael38 · 27/10/2004 06:40

Hi Milklady,
I am new to mumsnet too. I moved back home to New Zealand while pregnant with my boy Harrison (born 10 Aug) and a friend in the UK reccommended Mumsnet to me. I had to respond to your message because your baby sounds so similar to mine with feeding. Harrison too is a 'slow gainer' and at 9 weeks breast feeding was becomming a nightmare - pulling off etc. Please persevere as it is too soon to start solids. I went to La Leche League for breastfeeding support and am now reassured that 'Breast is best' even for my baby, I have seen a lactation consultant. Harrison has a high narrow hard palate which makes feeding harder when I don't have a strong 'let down' esp in the evenings. He becomes very ratty and pulls off etc. I express milk after each feed to keep my milk up and with a supplemental nursing system my lactation consultant gave me, I give him expressed breast milk via a tube which I tape to my breast at the same time as he is breast feeding. He is now a much better breast feeder and is getting enough milk to ensure he settles after feeds. It is a natural reflex for babies to poo while feeding esp at the start of a feed (which can make it harder to get them settled on the breast) and can't be helped. A good nights sleep will come. While breast feeding can become all you think about with slow gaining babies who are hard to feed, it really is for such a short period of their life and has such advantages. Your milk is exactly right for your baby and formular or baby rice is hard for them digest. This is why they sleep longer but it is not necessarily the best for them. Good luck.

hermykne · 27/10/2004 08:33

sweetkitty i sneak ds into the bed with me! much to dh annoyance as dd was in her own room at 8wks!
milklady, he'll settle , those inital 8/10wks are veey unsettlig, i have had it with my ds, pulling on off, not as good a feeder as my dd, but i stuck with the b/f and its not SO bad now!!

lalecheleague as rachel says are quite helpful and only a phonecall away.

Well, it didn't last, have had to feed DD2 at 4am for the last 3 nights!! It was nice while it lasted!!!!

What are you all doing for Xmas pressies for these little ones? Relatives keep asking what she needs, the answer is nothing!!! Ideas needed!!

sponge · 28/10/2004 14:31

I think Christmas presents for a 5 month old are pretty much a waste of time - they've no idea what's happening and it's even too young to find the wrapping of much interest - so I'd ask for things which you need for him/her - clothes etc - or maybe keepsake type things - nice books perhaps or maybe picture frames for all those cute baby photos.
Welcome to Mumsnet Milklady and Rachel38.
