Hi all, a quick query regarding milk - are other LO's still getting bottles through the day? DD still gets at least one 7oz bottle through the actual day as well as one at bedtime and occasionally in the morning depending on what time she wakes up (i.e. 5.30am) Lots of other mums have said that they've dropped all daytime bottles and are just down to the bedtime one. I'm wondering now if that's why she is still waking up at night - too much milk through the day so not enough calories? Once again, I can't remember what I did with DS. If this is your first baby and you're planning more, write down these things! Although every baby's different, it would still be helpful if I could have referred back to what I did last time!

WasWoOndering - LOL about the mystery tour of Caithness . I was surprised too about the appointment of the 'youngsters' to various committees on ACC, but really all they do is chair the meetings, and I don't think they could a more incompetent job than a lot of the previous incumbents from the previous administration...They don't set any policies. I am a bit biased though - the SNP group leader is a very close friend, in fact was best man at our wedding!!!

Hello everyone, my last post was a few months ago I think!
DD will be one on June 13th, she has 6 teeth, sleeps through the night 8pm-7pm, crawls and stands alone but not quite walking yet, eats most things but I do still cook especially for her, cos we seem to eat too many curries/mexican food/sausages/salty things that aren't quite baby friendly.
Foxy We're exactly the same with naps: 1.5hrs in the am, 1 hr after lunch, but getting harder to put her down after lunch so thinking of cutting down the morning nap. I do value that time in the morning for all my "things to do" though!
Finona DD still has a bottle mid morning and mid afternoon, about 4oz each. I've tried to get her onto a cup, but no success. I'm not sure if it's the milk she wants or just the bottle/teat itself. I'm thinking of cutting the afternoon one, and trying again with a cup when she's one. She still has 7oz at night and 6oz in the am.
Sorry for long post!

DD dropped milk feeds during the day a couple of months ago - she just has some fruit as snacks now - the HV's recommend that they don't have too much milk during the day as it can supress appetite. She has about 3oz from a sippy cup with her breakfast and 8oz from a cup at bedtime, but that's it. DD was never really fond of milk anyway (like me). DD also went on cows milk 2 weeks ago and seems to enjoy it more than formula.

funny how hv's give different advice isn't it.

mine said they used to recommend cutting down milk intake to get them to eat more solids but now they recommend leaving baby to drop milk feeds by him/herself. bit like it used to be recommended to feed baby 4 hourly but now they say to feed on demand.

ds dropped day (2.30pm) milk feed last week. Now offer him cow's milk in his beaker but he can take or leave it.

He still has 8oz formula first thing in the morning and last thing at night with water from beaker at all other times. It will be interesting to see if he still loves hs milk as much when it too switches from formula to cow's. I'm going to give it some time before I do away with bottle at night as he just loves it and i still love watching him twiddling with his hair and snuggling in .

Hello Ladies. I hope everyone is well. My DS is fast approaching 1yr old (18th June) and I can't believe it. I've been back at work 3 days a week since March and finding it ok. DS loves nursery 2 days and seeing family 1 day. We have recently moved home, back closer to family, 5 mins walk to families, schools and shops. We love our new home even though it needs a lot of modernising.

I love him so much and he makes me so happy. He's a really smiley cheeky fella and only tends to be upset or have a disrupted routine when he is poorly or teething. At the moment teething seems to be a constant! Poor little boy. He has his top 4 and bottom teeth and I think the 4 big ones must be coming. I wish they would hurry up . Not walking yet but very confident at pulling himself up, very quick at crawling and loves the stairs!

He started a long while ago saying bab-bab then dad-dad now he has just remembered me and started to say mum!

I've been thinking if I should be changing his routine at all now his is nearly 1? At present his routine is:

7am - Wake up, cereal with formula and drinks the rest (60z bottle) & toast.
9am - Nap - from 30 mins to 2 hours!!
11.30 - A dinner, dessert & juice from cup with lid
12 - Nap - sometimes! Varying times.
2.30 - 6oz formula
3ish - sometimes a nap if not one at 12
5 - small meal - sandwich etc & dessert & juice
6 - bath & play
6.30 - 6oz formula
7 - bed

What u ladies think? Also should I have cut down his milk, changed it to whole milk or put it in a cup with lid rather than bottle?

Thanks.

Vbab - I know what you mean about the routine, very little guidance given regarding weaning from our Health visitor so I just made it up s we went along.
DD now is in a routine which is as follows:
7am wakes up, 7 oz formula (bottle)
7.30am nap (30mins to 2 hrs - dep. on what kind of night we had sleepwise)
10.30 am hipp a bisc or toher cereal, fromage frais and water (from a beaker)
1.30pm sandwich, small amount of fruit (banana, orange, melon...whatever is in the house really) and water
5.30pm dinner, fromage frais and water
6.30pm nap
8.00pm 7oz bottle of formula
8.15pm bed for the night

This varies sometimes of course.

I'm still not sure about this baby led weaning business, my Mum said I stopped having formaula when I was 11 months cos I didn't want it anymore. But DD loves her bottles, she'll still be on formula aged 18 at this rate

ds is 26lbs and still rear facing. i'm holding out as long as i possibly can cos its safer for them.

this is his routine:

9am wake, 9oz milk and breakfast

11/11.30 nap

1pm 9oz milk (not always)

1.30/2pm lunch

2.30pm nap

4:30/5pm 9oz milk

might have a short nap somewhere here.

6pm tea

8/8:30pm get ready for bed, 9oz milk

9/9:30pm put down in cot

Wow there's such a variation in times and milk and all that. dd is:

7/7.30am wake up 6oz bottle: may take 5oz of it
Breakfast 8/8.30
Snack eg a bread stick or piece of fruit 10.30ish?
11/11.30 Sleep 2hrs (I wake her if I have to unless she's poorly then let her have 2 1/2)
Lunch 1.30pm
Tea 5/5.30pm
Bottle (or beaker if she's not feeling too grumpy!) 7pm
Bed 7.30pm

DD hasn't been having ANY lunch for 3 days now cos of teething. She just cries but seems ok with missing it. Fortunately I can see it in the gum now so not long till normality (!) is returned!

Think the recommendation is at least 11oz of milk during the day inclusive of yoghurt/cheese etc. ds lost interest in his 2.30pm milk feed. He still gets offered milk at this time but now cow's and in beaker.

Ds routine:

6-7am wake and 8oz formula

8am cereal + fruit+ water in beaker

8.30 - nap of 1 hour (was 1.5 but started cutting it to 1 hour)

11am fruit

12pm lunch (ds has his main meal at this time) normally fish/meat/chicken+veg+potato with hot fruit to follow and water

1pm nap of 1.5 hours

2.30pm milk in beaker - lucky if he takes two slugs

4pm - fruit/tea biscuit

5.30pm dinner - pasta/cheese on toast/cauliflower cheese + petite foilis + water

6.45pm bath

7pm 8oz bottle in bedroom, storites cuddles then bed.

7.30pm - me on sofa!

BIG THANKS to everyone for their advice.

The HV saw DS today and is really happy with his progress. He now weighs 22lb 13oz at just over 11 months.

I asked my HV lots of q's about should DS be on whole milk yet, should I drop the daytime formula feed so only 2 bottles a day and should I put the milk in a beaker rather than bottle.

She said when he's 1 he can have whole milk. If he isn't bothered about milk much in the day then drop that feed so only 2 a day that is the goal. Give him milk in beaker gradually to help him get used to it and wean him off bottles. When 1 and on whole milk no need to measure the oz like with formula just give him as much or as little as he wants.

I'm going to do what I'm told! Also the bottle I am dropping I may offer DS juice/water and fruit as a light snack between his lunch and tea.

Just been reading how heavy everyone elses babies are....my DD is like a giant baby I'm convinced. She's just turned 11 months and weighs over 25lb. My poor arms and back are paying for it as she's only just started taking her first few steps, not even cruising yet. Mummy is her means of transport...roll on walking I say!!!

DS is 1 today! How scary is that - this year has flown by. We have been so busy recently which is why I haven't posted much. We had a fabulous holiday to Florida at the end of April. DS loved Disneyworld and all the rides and parades. DS is now cruising and will walk with the walker. He has 2 bottom teeth.

DS routine is as follows (ish):

7 / 7.30am 7oz milk
8.15am Breakfast
9.30am nap (1 hour ish)
12.30pm lunch
2.30pm nap
4.45pm tea
6.30pm 7oz milk
7.00am bed

His naps are quite flexible. Sometimes he has a short one in the morning and a longer in the afternoon but it can be the other way round (depends what I'm doing and whether I need to go out!)

I'm back at work in 2 weeks which I'm not looking forward to. Once I get back I think I'll be okay though.

We're going out for DS's birthday lunch later so I must get on.

Happy birthdays to everyone who's started having them!
DS will also be 1 on 19/6 doesn't time fly. Would also like to add ds' routine as it helps to know if what I'm doing is ok

5.30-6.15 wake-up. Usually bf but if I'm really conked DH gives a bottle to let me sleep on for an hour.
7-7.30 bf other side and enjoy some morning playfulness
8-8.30 breakfast. cereal with formula/hardboiled egg yolk and toast/or fruity mixture
9.30-9.45 fresh fruit juice and nap about 1 hour
12ish lunch -usually freshly prepared or prepared beforehand & frozen
2.30-3 pm - formula and nap for 45mins -1.5 hrs
4.30-5pm - fresh fruit & yoghurt
7 pm - light dinner which is now usually same as ours but I divide his portion before adding salt/herbs/spices to our portions. He either feeds himself with fingers or I mash it up depending on type of food
then bath and quiet quality time
8 pm latest - bottle and/or bf and he sleeps immediately
He normally sleeps through now since about a month but no matter what we do we cannot get him to wake later than 6am! Very hard as none of us including DD needs to be up before 7.15am.
He has started standing unaided and getting straight up from sitting but still walking with one hand on settee (since 3 months ago!) he just loves crawling so much at top speed.
Sorry for monster post but have been absent so long!

blobsmummy your routine is what I aspire to!! ds still wakes too early (another 5.45 today - grrr) to only need half an hour in the morning at the mo'- hurrumph.

Ds's 'I am 1' t-shirt is hanging in his wardrobe ready for next Wed. sooo cute.

He also got his first pair of shoes on Tues. 'cruising' ones from Clarks. I've been resistant to getting him shoes as I like him in his bare feet/padders but he is walking more and more outside and padders just not substantial enough.

Not had ds weighed since March although we do pop him on the scales at home and he is 1 stone 8 pounds which is 22 pounds I think?

He now takes a full 20 minutes to settle at night. He goes in his cot without a whimper but takes ages to get comfy so I'm doing the 'pick up/Put down' routine repeatedly saying its time for sleep. Can sometimes do it up to 10 times but once he gives his big yawn I know we're on the home straight. His sleeping positions are interesting - sometimes on his tummy with his bum in the air or last night he was on his back with his hands behind his head like he was sunbathing

We paid a surprise visit to MIL at work as its her 60th b'day today - ds carried in his card and she was delighted to see him and promtly whisked him off to show to all her colleagues. Proud mummy moment!

eek, sorry for long post.

Congrats to everyone who's little ones have had or expecting their 1st birthday. My DS is 1 in 2 weeks today. Not walking on his own yet but crawling, into everything and very confident at standing sometimes letting go. At the weekend he started walking with this walker he has got but he is so strong he pushes it too hard and sometimes pushes it over with him following.

I can't wait for DS to walk but he is already into everything so I dread a little what he will get up to!

foxymagoo - Where did you get DS's shirt? I've been trying to find one for DS.

Hello all. Happy Birthday to all our little June babies. DD is 1 on the 16th and I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. Get emotional just thinking about it! She's got her double teeth coming through before some of her singles at the moment and is a grumpy little thing! DD's daytime routine is similar to the other babies - here it is:

6.30-7am wake up
7.30 - 8am - cereal (1 1/2 weetabix or Ready brek and a bottle)
11am ish - nap
12.30 - lunch, & 2 petit filou yogurts and bottle of water (tried her with juice but no go - she just screws up her face and pushes it away!)
3.30pm - 8oz bottle
4pm - nap
5pm - sandwich, fruit and water bottle
7.30pm - bathtime
8pm - 8oz bottle and bed

Does anyone have any advice how to get DD to drink out of a beaker? Have tried her with tommee tippee and avent beakers but she just won't have them. All the weaning booklets the HV gave me says she should be out of drinking from a bottle by her first birthday - she's happy with her bottle for now and I'm happy if she is, but would love to see her start to drink out of a beaker!

trinity1 - Sorry to hear about DD and her teeth. My DS is going through a bad patch, again, at the moment.

Drinking from a beaker... I've been lucky because DS has had juice/water from a beaker for quite a few months now. Over the last couple of weeks I tried him having his milk out of the beaker. It worked after 2/3 attempts with me starting off just holding it for him like a bottle. He now will feed himself from the beaker but at his bedtime milk he will hold it but still likes to be cuddled and laid back when having it.

I've tried DS a number of times with Avent beakers, I bought one to try him with his milk but he refused it. He has this basic non spill beaker that is a bit battered now and loves it. The shiny, new avent one is just sat on the side. Will try it again. The key is to be patient and keep trying I guess. I've used books alot but they can only give you guidelines because every child is different.

Good luck.
