Ok, I can THOROUGHLY recommend making the MN lemon drizzle cake. Its lush. It makes loads though. And the recipie which is on the thread about it made one loaf tin drizzle cake and 12 fairy cake ones. And did I say...its LUSH! Too bad no one lives near me & could pop round for some cake..too bad my boyfriend won't be home till 7pm...hope there is some left for him then! x

GIVE ME CAKE!!

(i am the cake princess)

JodieG1 · 13/04/2007 17:24

Congrats to your friend.

Liz - I hate lemon cake myself but I make one that's virtually the same from a recipe book I have and everyone likes that.

Lizzzombie · 13/04/2007 17:26

Dear Cake Princess,
Please find below recipe for cake which will make you happy instantly..well, after about 40 minutes of baking. I am LizzZombie - domestic goddess!

INGREDIENTS
9 oz sugar
9 oz butter
12 oz self-rising flour
4 eggs
3 t baking powder
6 Tbsp milk
grated rind from 2 lemons
juice from these lemons separately

METHOD

Preheat oven to 325 degrees/Gas Mark 3/170C/ Mix all the ingredients together in the mixer except for lemon juice. Bake in 9 X 11 (or 13) baking dish. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until knife comes out clean. While the cake is baking, squeeze the juice from the lemons and heat for 20 seconds or so in the microwave. Set at least one tablespoon aside to drizzle into the cake when it comes out of the oven. Take the balance of the warm lemon juice and add icing sugar (confectioners sugar) to consistency you like. As soon as you take the cake from the oven, prick cake with fork and pour over the reserved warm lemon juice. Next, spread the icing over the cake to finish it off.

Z had his 2nd lot of jabs this morning, he was giving the HV lovely smiles and then she jabbed him in the leg and his little face just crumpled! then he'd just about stopped crying and she jabbed him in the other leg!!

anyway, then he was grumpy and shouty and running a temp of almost 38, so i dosed him up with Calpol (twas easy - just tilted his head back and poured the stuff down!) and let him sleep on me. but there was a point when he was proper miserable and there were real tears. it was awful.

congrats to your BF EAH. we'l want name/weight/time of birth, the lot (i love details!!)

OMG chatter chatter.......you all been here waiting for the news from EAH's bf? Congrats to her btw EAH. Bet you're glad you can buy blue stuff!!

UD - hope Z's ok this evening. Two down, one to go (well, of this lot anyway). What does SWMNBN mean? I was going to award myself a 4 out of 10, but sorry to be dim but can't work out what this is. Hope your roast was nice last night!

Lizz - why do you always talk about nice food? Each time I see your name now I just dribble (take after my daughter). And to make matters worse I've run out of Easter Egg and have no lemons in the house. Chuck us a slice please.

Jodie - AP looks really heavy going. Not heard of it until Lizz mentioned it.

You all got busy nights on MSN? I may have to talk to DH this evening

Dragonhart · 13/04/2007 19:46

Id say I am probablly a 2. Love my routines too. I have to say though, I agree with some of the things on that web site but just not how to get there.

Mind you my MIL told me I was a hard mother this weekend. It is really anoying the way she molly coddles (SP?) my nephew though. If L falls over I say something like 'oopsy daisy' or 'up you get' (as long as it is not REALLY bad). But if nephew falls it is the end of the world and he has to have loads of cuddles and crys for about half an hour.

He ran down a grassy hill and fell over and hurt his finger and cos of all the fuss ended up whinging in his buggy for the rest of the walk. God I hate whinging! They even talked about going to A and E about it FFS!

I think maybe I am hard

Dragonhart · 13/04/2007 19:49

Congrats to your BF EAH!

Nemo2007 · 13/04/2007 19:50

grrrrrrrrrrrrr coming for a rant ladies sorry..but bloody Dh is annoying me. He has been going on and on about when are we putting C in with DD1. So tonight decided to see if I could settle them together. Took me an hour as DD1 was all excited at seeing C in her room etc so of course was in and out of bed. I just came downstairs and he asked why I was settling her in the bedroom. Told him how he had been going on etc, he completely denied it. Then he went upstairs made so much bloody noise that now both of them are awake again. So have told him they are his responsibility until 7am and he now has a face on and is trying to get C to settle. Although I think he is now in our room with her!

ellieandhattie · 13/04/2007 19:54

aww congrates

annieapple7 · 13/04/2007 20:05

Congrats to your bf, EAH....God I am glad I never have to go through that again!!

Not really into attachment parenting. Like routine and my 3 are perfectly content because they know what's coming next. And carrying you baby around in a sling does not mean you love them anymore!

ellieandhattie · 13/04/2007 20:14

his photo is bottom on my rofile how cute is hatties toyboy?

LadyTophamHatt · 13/04/2007 20:27

becks5109 · 13/04/2007 20:53

dragonheart - i too am hard mummy! i am exactly same as you and say oh dear you'll be alright but MIL always goes over the top and then DD milks it! Last time we saw her she cut DD's labels out of her clothes as she said they were scratching her - now DD constantly goes on about her labels asking me to cut them out - no way am I getting into doing that!

DH has gone out tonight so had to put them both to bed by myself which was a bit of a challenge but at the mo all is quiet so i'm enjoying being able to MN for a change!

Wilkie · 13/04/2007 21:04

Oh dear - attachment parenting is defo not for me. Would drive me insane!!!!! Love my little routine with J and like you said Annie, he's happy cos there are no surprises. But of course, each to their own. I would say I am prob a 2-3 on the scale

Totally agree about not glossing over any mishaps. My sisters twins are always bumping themselves and we just say 'Never mind, up you get' and carry on. I find if I make a big fuss they seem to cry for the hell of it.

J been a little sweetie today. HE ROLLED OVER!!!!! Put him on his front for some tummy time, he lifted his head and shoulders off the floor, pushed with his left arm and rolled over. He look really proud of himself and grinned at me Aw bless my boy, he's growing up. He is also making loads more sound including blowing raspberries. Hee hee.

I'm having an MSN free night tonight so someone else will have to be bar manager.

EAH - Eddas LO is gorgeous, as I said on my text please tell her massive congrats.
