I'm a great believer of routine so be strict with times and now 6mths should easily last 4hrs 7 11 3 630/7 and df if need be so would be 4/5 feeds of ideally 6/7oz

Or every 3hrs and 5oz per feed but ideally 4

You almost need them starving to take whole feed to last till next 4hrs

purpleviolet1 · 27/09/2017 10:06

Thanks blondes but my problem with ds is that he doesn't take enough in during the day. Right now he is recovering so guess that's understandable but even before, regalrdless of whether I offered feed first or solid, he would either reduce milk so much that he wasn't having barely 15oz or take milk and refuse solids. I suppose he might have been under the weather for a while and he was only just settling on the neocate so that may have contributed. Hopefully when he recovers now we can up the intake during the day ....

Maybe it's the Taste of milk. It's rank

Some put a drop or two of vanilla essence in it

Maybe try that @purple

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2017 12:47

Thanks Hugh.
I had a ripe pear so I ate half and cut up the other half for DS. We have been giving him a mix of purée and finger foods, but he does seem to prefer finger foods - plus it keeps him occupied while I'm trying to eat myself! I have got some pouches to try though.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2017 13:18

@coup I find 5/8mins on a thick chunk of carrot works well

Carolann8584 · 27/09/2017 13:34

We have a rocker/walker. before DD could balance herself sitting we would put a blanket rolled up in front of her. She can sit now so no need for the blanket but she does look tiny in the seat as there's so much room

Hugh we've only used it as a rocker so far so the wheels arent down.

purpleviolet1 · 27/09/2017 18:49

Those of you who are using pouches - do you use the same pouch for consecutive meals if it lasts more than one meal? I always feel I should give variety but the paed said to introduce things and wait to see if they cause a reaction before moving onto something new so we can easily analyse.

@Blondeshavemorefun already adding vanilla essence Sad

Don't have a baby walker , just the jumparoo.

Ds is rolling about on the floor now , can do consecutive rolls and just loves it. Not sitting on his own as he just isn't interested in sitting now!

Just re read my messages, consecutive rolls BlushHmm sounds well weird lol

purple
I knew what you meant Grin
We try and use the pouch a few times over two or three days, not every single "meal", but enough to give him a few opportunities to get used to the taste, and to get a bit more out of the pouch! We still throw a lot of it away sadly, he's eating a bit but not much yet.

NameChange30 · 27/09/2017 19:44

(We don't just give one pouch at a time - I do also offer finger foods so he will usually have a couple of different things each day atm.)

troodiedoo · 27/09/2017 19:55

I will use a pouch the next day for lunch or dinner, so try to space it out a bit. Although dd has gone right off solids after initially wolfing them down, so it's kind of on pause for now.

Cool wheels @blonde she looks very cute.

Grin consecutive rolls, that could also describe my chocolate mum tum!

Carolann8584 · 27/09/2017 20:14

We use the same pouch for lunch and tea but she's tried all the individual vegs now so want to start on combinations.

For those who blend your own, do you blend the different veg together or individually then put them in the same bowl when feeding? I've only done individual homemade and now she's having more food I want to keep pouches for when we go out otherwise she's going to cost a fortune lol

purpleviolet1 · 27/09/2017 20:19

It's been 9 days since ds had solids.. last couple days I've not even bothered offering. He was a bit better this morning but still not himself. Will give it a couple days then start again with the solids.

Would it be bad to offer the same pouch / home made purée for all 3 meals so I can work out what he is reacting to, if anything, and also so he gets used to the taste?

I bought some baby rice DD really didn't like it. She's loved everything else she's tried. What can I add to the rice to make it taste a bit more interesting for her?

NameChange30 · 27/09/2017 21:45

We have a pouch of baby rice with banana that DS seems to like, so you could try mixing banana with it? Or another fruit if there's one your DD prefers.

Carolann8584 · 27/09/2017 22:33

We havent tried fruit yet. Might start with some soon

MotherofA · 27/09/2017 22:58

Hey everyone . Loving all the weaning stories . Sorry I haven't read all the way back but when I was doing just veggies I blended them all together. Also I think using the same packet is fine .
DD was really not well today . I am pretty sure its teeth but she was so clingy and tearful all day . She had some calpol, that seemed to help .
She doesn't sleep with her dummy in but several times through the night she cries out and I have to give her the dummy . It's very tiring even though it's only a few seconds ! I don't give the dummy in the day and if this carries on I'll have to get rid of it full stop .
She does sleep through 7-6 now though and has 4oz at 6 then I get her up at around 730 for breakfast .
I hope everyone is ok and your beautiful babies have been letting you sleep a bit at least !

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2017 23:18

I cook a veg a day purée and freeze into pots and decant into bag

But dd has 2 pots per meal so mix and match. Usually will have a green in each meal so cabbage and sweet potato - broccoli I and carrot etc

She's true most things on holiday so will start cooking meals like lasagne fish pie and freeze

purpleviolet1 · 28/09/2017 12:02

Hope everyone had a good night and is having a good day ☀️ is shining, such a beautiful day

Same to you purple . Is DS any better ? I can really feel DD tooth trying to cut through !
Went out to meet a friend and her baby this morning . Put DD in a thick knitted romper suit haha bit warm for that so had to change her when we got back ! This weather spins my head !

purpleviolet1 · 28/09/2017 13:04

It's beautiful isn't it! He is a bit happier but still blocked up.. taking a little more milk but still not himself. Just been at home this morning, dm is over. Think we will get out for a walk after he has got up from his afternoon nap.
