Thought it was about time we started a new thread and this seemed like a suitable time. I am now going to try to link the old one to this one.

It did come back, over a week late. Bugger is that it means I'll now have it on holiday (assuming it behaves itself this time round)

I was wondering about N&T&E too. Hope they are al ok.

Nat's birth announcement is here

Ponka · 12/07/2007 16:03

I'm back now, too. It's nice to hear about Natty. Thanks for linking that.

I've just finished with a massive deadline for yesterday. I decorate cakes and I was asked to do one for a national cake magazine! It was really hard work and really scary but I managed it. The photo shoot for it was yesterday. I was up until 3 on Monday night and 1:30 on Tuesday night finishing the article off. So that's why I've been missing for so long. I think my poor boys are fed up with having a tired Mummy so they'll be glad to have energetic Mummy back after I've caught up on some sleep!

I can see it's been as busy as ever recently, here!

SlightlyMadSpider · 15/07/2007 23:29

Do we not get to see a preview of your creation?

I was about to suggest you come and join us in te MNWI village show (baking contests) but you will probably outshine us all

Ponka · 17/07/2007 20:12

Baking? I can't bake to save my life! I'm going to have to learn if I do go into business or I'll have nothing to decorate. I've heard about the village show and I've even had a look at the photos. I'm very impressed.

I'm not very good at technology either! I've been meaning to ask DH to help me put a photo of my cake up for someone else who asked because I've failed badly at doing it myself!

Ponka · 18/07/2007 20:20

Have managed to put some cake pics up, SMS. I'll keep them there for a few days then take them off again.

SlightlyMadSpider · 18/07/2007 21:12

Ponka - they are fab...I love the 'feel' of hte Christmas cake one. I think something similar could work well as a Wedding cake (from what I can see from the piture)....can I let you know when I am getting married - I'll bake the cake and you can deorate it LOL!!!!

DebitheScot · 19/07/2007 16:18

Wow, those cakes are amazing Ponka. Mmmmm, making me hungry. I like the retro one the best.

Just been for a 3 mile run, feeling very pleased with myself!

i guess i cant complain that this thread is quiet without putting something - so here goes.

DS has now learnt to run, this was found to my horror when he ran from me along the side of the swimming pool whilst on our holidays! We also encountered our first batch of painful teeth coming through.Poor lad wouldnt eat anything but yoghurt for 3 days and generally cried the whole time. However once they were through he became super boy!!!! He has SO much energy to our joy [sarcasm emoticon!] and never stops.

He only has one nap a day now, usually around lunch and still has 2 bottles a day (we were hoping to begin working on getting rid of one, but he's strangely become really needy for them!)

He eats for England and is really into fruit at the moment, he only has to see a fruit bowl before pointing, grunting and having a full blown tantrum if you dont give him some.

Fave toys right now are my ipod, my car keys, my mobile phone, my pens, and in fact anything he can empty out of my handbag!

And me.... well i am at the stage where i am thinking "How the hell can anyone have more than one child?"

EscapeFrom · 20/07/2007 15:07

Hai! We still has a thread?!

Daniel is 15 months old, and will take 3 steps at a time - under duress. When objects stubbornly refuse to do his bidding, by failing to stay airborn, or not being a banana, he rolls around on the floor like a drunken labrador puppy, and screams at them. This often continues for some time because most objects don't respond very fast to this method.

He still has two bottles a day, morning and night, of cows milk. He sleeps roughly 12 hours at night, and 1 hour in the day, generally between 11 and 12.30.

he has 6 teeth, and very curly blond hair.

pepperrabbit · 21/07/2007 14:50

DS2 still can't walk at all - but he has a very similar approach to wayward inanimate objects as yours Escapefrom! Unfortunately he also tries this on DS1 on whom it's equally ineffective in making him do what he wants, but triggers a similar amount of noise/tantrum like commotion!
DS2 has just had his first proper little boy haircut and doesn't look like my baby anymore [broody emoticon]

Ponka · 21/07/2007 22:37

3 mile run, Debithescot? That's brill. I'd be chuffed with myself if I managed a 3 mile walk these days!

Hi Nip and Colditz. Nice to hear from you. We have the tantrum thing here, too.

He's also determined not to go to sleep. Today he just wouldn't and we didn't go out so he ended up falling snoring in his high chair with half eaten scone in his mouth and tomato ketchup up his nose. Twas quite cute and very funny. I have to say he looked rather like my DH after a big Sunday lunch.

DebitheScot · 23/07/2007 14:59

Lol at falling asleep at the highchair.
We're not having sleep problems here (touch wood), in fact this morning ds never woke up untill 9am! He has got a bit of a cold and high temp though so guess he needs it. He's currently nearly 2 hours into a sleep now.
He only has one sleep a day now, usually late morning for anywhere between 1 1/2 hours and 2 hours.

Going to Portugal on Friday. Looking forward to it (except for the very early morning flight), going with the in-laws so will get a bit of a break too.

HI,

Well whats DD3 up to these days.

It feels as though she has been walking forever (even though it is only about 6 weeks). Loves charging up and down the lounge screeching or spining in a circle.
Also loves emptying all the crisps and pots and pans out of kitchen cupboards (its going to be fun in a caravan next week!!!!). The last couple of days she is almost climbing on setee (oh boy). We went to a family party a week or 2 ago and we were knackered following her and recovering her from any open doors. I am dreading the eveing entertainment. Still I might loose a stone or 2 .

Not saying much. In fact her vocab seems to have reduced. She use to have duck, muma, dada, gone, (a)gain, doggy, row row. She now only seems to use Daddeee/dogeee (anything that moves), Bye Byeee (universal greeting/goodbye), gone (I need more food) and row row.
She also vigerously shakes her head and holds her hand out clasping and unclasping when she wants something.

Sleeps a bit random here. She is just about down to 1 daytime nap of approx 2hrs (usually 1-3ish) unless she has fallen aslepp in the car in the morning. Nights are a bit random. She will go down any time between 7 and 10 and get up between 6:30ish and 8ish. And just cos she is late to bed doesn't necessarily mean she will have a lay in.

Starting to refuse any food which is chopped up, mixed in a bowl. Likes things nice and orderly on a plate. But eats really well. She can easliy eat as much as DTD2 (6) some days.

Still as placid as ever though. Even makes me think of having another.....but then I think what if I get a bad one? Seriously though I struggled to convince DP to have DD3 so I think my childbearing days are done .

Anyway must go. Hols tomorrow.

mellow2 · 06/08/2007 22:18

Hello everyone,

I haven't been on here in absolute ages. Dd just started walking properly today at 15 and a half months and I'm ecstatic. I know I shouldn't be but I am.

She hardly has daytime naps and she's constantly on the go. She knows what she likes to eat (especially raw tomatoes) and she won't let us feed her even though she makes a right mess with yogurt and rice.

She talks quite a bit but is pretty slow developmentally on the physical front.

Do you think we need a new thread now that they are all way past a year old?

pepperrabbit · 07/08/2007 21:09

DS2 STILL isn't walking, it's quite annoying me now even though he's perfectly happy, but he eats everything, still loves milk and has a surprisingly wide vocab. We were all sitting on the sofa the other morning and he just turned to me and DS1 and said terribly politely "hello". We almost cried laughing

DebitheScot · 13/08/2007 13:21

pepper I've got a friend who's daughter was born beginning of Feb last year and she's not walking yet. Well she might be now but she wasn't 2 weeks ago when I went on hol.

Had a great holiday in Portugal. Weather was great, hot but nice breeze most of the time. Ds loved the beaches, the pool and the villa. We went with the in-laws which was great. They don't see much of ds so the novelty of playing with him hadn't worn off even after 2 weeks.
Was a really nice part of the world too. Some lovely coves, cliffs, grottos around the coast. Wish we didn't have to come home.

Ponka · 19/08/2007 23:05

I'd make the most out of it, Pepperrabbit. I heard that if they excel in one area, they are not so forward in another and it's all completely normal. It sounds like your DS has got his mind firmly on speaking at the moment. My DS was one of the first to walk and he can only really say a few words. Our conversations go like this:
"Mummy, Da va da da n n n"
"Really, Luke. That's very interesting"
"a ba da ga goo goo m n"
"Yes, I see"
He puts such expression into what he's saying and really sounds like he thinks I understand him completely. Tis very cute.
Scarily though, he vaulted out of his cot a few days ago when he was determined that he wasn't going to have a nap. I had to charge up the stairs because the stair gate was open. He's not done it since but I have no idea what we'll do if it becomes a regular habit.

Portugal sounds lovely, Debithescot. I'm very jealous. Also SMS, where did you go? Hello Mellow! We don't have much daytime napping going on in our house, either.

SlightlyMadStar · 25/08/2007 22:14

Hi, I am back.

We had a week in Burnahm on sea (Haven - when do you go Ponka I vagueluy remember you saying you were going to Haven. Was it Blackpool way?). It was great. The site was walking distance from beach and town centre so for 4 days we didn't even get in teh car which was the best bit.

We have had a hellish couple of weeks since we have been back. DD3 has had an oral herpes infection, which led to about 10-12 blisters & ulcers all over hte inside of her mouth (she caught my coldsore). It was so painful she stoppped eating and virtually stopped drinking. We were told to pack our bags for hosp referal for iv fluids at one point but she didn't need it. She seems to survive on a an amazingly minimal volume of fluids. Then she passed the infection to her (sucking) thumb which also ended up with a bacterial infection. Which led to her being on a foul tasting hideously difficult to swallow antibiotics. THEN she got blisters on her back which we initially thought were chickenpox. But she hasn't got any more so we think it is a harmless viral infection called molluscum - but may be more herpes. All I can say is that I never knew a coldsore could be so nasty.

Pepper - agree with Ponka - a baby brain only has so much capacity for development - your DS sounds if he is excelling in speech and walking will catch up. DD3 seems to be a bit more balanced in that she walked about average and is probably talking about average. Bah Bah (bye bye) and maarah (more) seem to be her favourite phrases at the mo.

About the pole vault training - I guess if he does it repeatedly you can either take him out of a cot and put him on a mattress (where he will probably run around his room all night ) or just put lots of pillows/duvets next to his cot to soften his fall.

Secreteater · 28/08/2007 14:21

Hello All

I Literally have not been on here posting since, possibly, before our DD arrived. she was 13 days late, arrived after a 28 hour labour, by emergency cessarian. It was not what you would call a smooth arrival. Motherhood knocked me sideways, post natal depression the works, but now I am great, and DD is wonderful!!!! i can not believe how much joy she brings me and DH (we are just married! Hurrah!)

it has been great to read and catch up with everyone's news, and nice to see there is still a community out there.

DD is now 15 and a half months, and started walking about 6 weeks ago - although she had only just got to grips with crawling shortly beofre that, so we had a static baby for a LONG time (quite useful really). It goes to sshow Pepper that movement comes to each of them differently, all my friends babies were crawling rings round DD and she just sat there, and eventually joined in...

There is no stopping her now though.... she follows me everywhere, chases the cat, saying nail (which is meant to be tail) and ear - very clearly, and trying to grab either of these appendages! she also loves to walk outside (in the rain) consequnetly she is on her second pair of proper shoes (they are SO expensive!!!! But luckily I have found a clarks retail outlet place that stocks First Shoes....)

She also has lots of words including uh-oh, meow, and bits (ie crumbms, spills, dirt, grass - anything small and apparently foreign) she is not a fan of bits.

We don't quite have tantrums yet, but she is starting to ignore me when I say "come here" and there seems to be a surprising amount of fake crying for someone so small! it goes to show they learn quick.

this week has been an intersting one of food poisoning (her and me) gunky eyes, soaring temperatures and throat infection. Not ideal for a bank holiday....

Off to Wales for a long weekend on Friday so fingers crossed she is better by then...

NattyThomasandEllen · 30/08/2007 18:20

Thomas is finally talking, we now have proper mum and dad, cats, trees, baby(thats ellen! ) and so many other things!
so glad cos i was begining to worry, and because he has been early for eveything else i havent had this b4

how is everyone else?

pepperrabbit · 31/08/2007 18:43

secreteater - welcome back! Sounds like you had a rough ride, glad you're happy now and married too! congratulations.
SMS - poor DD3, sometimes it just seems like they'll never shake off that kind of thing, I hope she's feeling heaps better now.
We were away for the bank holiday and the 6 yr old of the couple we were visiting had shingles, neither of mine have had chicken pox so we're waiting with bated breath for the dreaded spots. Luckily DH has sole responsibility for looking after them if they get it as he KNEW before we went that she was poorly but told them it was OK , we didn't mind if ours got chicken pox.....
He may not bloody mind, but he goes to work 5 days a week. I struggle valiantly to attend the office just one day a week and refuse to have that complicated even further!
If he'd just asked me, I probably would still have agreed to go, it's just the fact that he didn't even mention it.
grrr
apart from that DS2 is lovely, still not walking! but at least he's not vaulting out of the cot ponka!

WriggleJiggle · 03/09/2007 12:01

Thought I'd better come on here and update myself on what everyone elses dd's and ds' are up to - a hive of activity and chaos by the sounds of it !

Its good to read some of the little ones are down to 1 sleep a day like dd. Well its not good as obviously I'd prefer dd to have 2 really really long naps, but at least she sounds to be doing a normal amount of sleeping compared to everyone else.

I'm thinking of trying to persuade her to have a morning hour and an afternoon hour nap rather than one extended sleep because I think that might fit in better with d? who arrives in 6 weeks. Has anyone else tried 2 short rather than 1 long nap?

I've just started taking dd swimming but she hates wearing armbands so at the moment she's more like a fish than a floating duck. She loves going under though so it doesn't bother me - only the lifeguards look worried!

Nip · 03/09/2007 12:31

Hello everyone again.

DS is currently pushing the boundaries!! He has upset 2 (much older) children this weekend by yanking their hair out in clumps! And when he's not content with that he's trying to push them over!! He even tried to push me away from the kitchen the other day so he could try and get into all the drawers! When did he all of a sudden get like this???

Apart from this small issue he is becoming a proper little boy now, he can say Daddy (daddeeeeee), Bath (baaaarrrrr), Banana (nana), the cats name (ess ess), and other random words that i'm still trying to work out! He's also become a climber and seems to be able to get where-ever he wants now.

Down to only one nap in the day now for about an hour / hour and a half, however keeps waking at about 6am. (It used to be 6.30-7.00 but i'm keeping my fingers crossed its just teeth!)

Still has a bottle when he gets up and one before bed. I dont know if this is correct, but i dont know - should he be off a bottle and onto some sort of cup?

He now also runs everywhere - he gets so excited and just wants to get from A to B as quickly as possible, hence why he often has a bruise somewhere on his forehead from running straight into something! Oh and he can 'sneak' up on things as well - very funny, but the poor cat isnt enjoying this new game!

SlightlyMadSCAREYthing · 03/09/2007 22:15

Hi again...DD3 is much better - or at least she was. She now seems to have some sort of chesty cough/infection. Another trip to GP tomorrow I think. But after her last bout she is back on track. The only thing she is still struggling with is letting us brush her teeth....she just won't let us do it...well if she feels liek it she will let DTDs do it but if not not .

Does everyone find that there little ones have suddenly stopped being babies and are now proper toddlers. Seems to have happened overnight. She has a mind which you can see thoroughly processes info (we saw bits of this over the last few months, but no she really seems to process everything).

She is learning body parts, giving her nose a cute little tweak when asked where her nose is. She thoroughly understands whats whatt. If you ask her if she wants milk/clean nappy/PJs etc. she goes to the right room of the house (or stair gate). If she sees us putting our shoes on to go she goes and fetches hers, sits down and waits. She also knows that when DP picks his diary and phone up it is time to say "baah baye"...she is turning from a lovely little baby into a lovely little toddler

She is also having 2 bottles a day. We would like to move her to a spouted cup, but need to buy a new one which doesn't have a uncleanable valve in for her milk where bugs breed.

Finally - did we know you are expecting again WriggleJiggle, or have I just missed the anouncement?
