Does anybody use reusable nappies?

Hello
My baby is 4 months old & I decided to try reusable nappies, the problem I'm finding is that they leak, has anyone else had this problem or can anyone recommend a good make? The one's I've got are Bambino mio from Aldi. I have been using liners in them.
Thanks.

Hi, I am thinking of using reusables once my baby is born. I went to a talk at work on this and they say some councils run a service for you to try out reusables before buying. There might be some organisations that can lend you some for you test before committing any money.

I use 'Little Lambs' they were a bit big at birth, but had no problems with them since.

Did you prewash them? They can take a few washes before they get very absorbent (like new towels). Make sure all the inside parts are well tucked in, or urine can wick out, and that there are no tight clothes or vests digging in to the nappy (or urine can be pushed out). There's good advice on the nappy board and the nappy lady website (and Facebook page).
I loved miosols but birth to potty nappies but there can be a bit of compromise with fit at younger ages. If you're still having trouble you can try a booster or an extra wrap (Motherease wraps are great).

Thank you for your responses.

Lonoxo I will have to look into that thank you.

ppmf10 I've not heard of Little Lambs I will look out for them thank you.

Junemami Yes I did pre-wash them. Thank you for all your advise.

There are some good reusable nappy Facebook groups. 'The Nappy Lady' (as mentioned above) and 'cloth bum mums' have lots of fit advice and knowledgable people.

Thank you Reallyfuckingitchy I've joined the cloth bum mums group some interesting posts on there.

I've used them since my one was 2 months. We have a mixture of Bambino Mio AIO, Tots Bots Stars, Little Lambs pockets and Bumgenius Elementals. They all need 6-8 washes to reach full absorbency (we start using after 2-3 prewashes and change more frequently). Nappy lady is an excellent source of information. There is also a thread on here no question too stupid reusable nappy thread (sorry not sure how to link) which is also a good place to learn more about them.

We love them and can't imagine using disposables

I didn't know they needed 6-8 washes before reaching full absorbency Riddles26 thanks that's good to know. I've only washed them once before use then they've been washed twice since after use - not been using them long. I've only put them on her when we're staying at home, and I don't put them on her at night because of them leaking so I'm mostly using disposable nappies.

Could I ask where you buy your reusable nappies from? I've only managed to find the Bambino Mio ones from Aldi & Asda, not seen any of the other makes you mention. When I decided to buy reusable nappies I was quite surprised at the lack of them in the shops.

I'll have a look for that nappy thread - thank you.

I use disposables at night because my one is a heavy wetter and sleep is enough of a challenge without wetness also waking her up! She only gets put in reusables during the day though.

I have bought most of my nappies online. The Nappy Lady is an excellent starting point and I compare prices with the brands themselves. I follow them all on Facebook as they tend to announce all their offers there first.

Tots Bots, Bambino Mio and Little Lamb are all based in UK and I have a preference for local brands. Little Lambs do excellent sales twice a year - next one will be just after Christmas. Tots Bots have good offers direct too and Nappy Lady has offers on their products from time to time. Bambino Mio Ive picked up like you, from mainstream shops such as Aldi and other store baby events. Bumgenius are more of a premium brand with prices to match but they happened to release a new version of one of their nappies and a retailer slashed the price of all the older version so I picked up a few. They are fantastic but I am not convinced to pay full price for them.

There are other retailers like Babipur, Cloth Nappy Tree, YesBebe that all sell real nappies too. Its always worth checking them all out to compare prices if you are investing in a bundle.
