Abacha
I've read that if you want to bring forward bedtime, it's a good idea to do it gradually e.g. by 15-20 minutes at a time, and adjust after a few days. So maybe you could start the bath at 7.40pm for a few days, then 7.20pm, then 7pm? (Just a suggestion of course!)

DS is quite a warm baby and I've been paranoid about overheating so at night we just put him in a vest and babygrow or bundler (long nightie!) Like your DCs, he just kicks the blanket off! I'll put him in a sleeping bag when it gets colder.

Your twins sound adorable btw - it must be so lovely to see them interact with each other 😍

Namechange I came on to post the same thing - honestly what is going on today???? Ds woke at 6am and didn't go down for nap until 10am..... slept 40 mins and then had a catnap in car at 12ish. Then he didn't sleep until 5pm.. and that was only because we were in the car 😒🤔 I woke him at 6pm because I didn't want him to miss his feed and bedtime at 7pm, but he was very grumpy so I just fed him and put him down at 6.30pm. Don't know what sort of night we will be in for. He has been chewing his fingers A LOT. He isn't interested in the teether and doesn't seem in pain as such. I gave him some nurofen and applied anbesol on his gums anyway.

He's managed 3 hours awake time quite a lot recently but a 4 hour and 5 hour in one day is just a bit extreme....

Oh meant to say his room is quite warm (26c according to our baby video monitor right now) so I just have him in a vest and grobag. He seems happiest in that and I've checked him on several nights, he isn't too warm.

Aw Abacha that's so cute!

It's 23 ish in our room, I put dd in vest, sleep suit and cellular blanket. I have gro bags but I'm wary of them in a luddite fashion, didn't have them with dd1.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/08/2017 20:19

sorry some of you have had a bad day, hope tomorow is better

def bring bath forward, they are prob over tired hence bathing much harder

you dont need to bath every day so if easier bath one every other day, with other watching in bouncer

but how lovely they are inter acting

dd is in babygro and 1 tog gro bag and thin sheet as she kicks about so much she turns sidewards and wakes self up

since tucking her in under sheet she sleeps soundly

if a warm day then long sleeved vest and gro bag

dd gets cold arms soo nly time been in short sleeved vest was when had very hot weather in july and room was 27 and had fan on

NameChange30 · 24/08/2017 22:08

carol and purple, sorry to hear that you've both had a difficult day as well. Here's hoping we all have a better today tomorrow. Thanks Blondes.

On the upside, we tried something new at bedtime and it went pretty smoothly, so that was a relief! I've been feeding DS to sleep at night and we want to switch to rocking instead (then we will go from rocking to self settling). So tonight I fed DS sitting in bed (instead of lying) then when he was done eating, DH took over and rocked him to sleep - amazingly he fell asleep really fast with little to no crying! Fingers crossed it continues to go smoothly.

Hope you all have a decent night!

coupester · 25/08/2017 05:33

That's great, Name! I hope the success continues!

I hope today is a better day for everyone. DS just woke up but we've managed to get him back to sleep.

Oh wait, sounds like he's awake again...

purpleviolet1 · 25/08/2017 06:00

DS also awake here but not awake awake so trying to get him
Back to sleep with little success so far.... think he's feeling grumpy Sad

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 25/08/2017 06:27

Thanks coupester.
DS has just woken up too. I really want to try to stick to a wake up time of 6.45-7.15 but I don't think we're going to be able to persuade him to stay in bed for another 20 mins!
He woke up 3 times in the night Sad

purpleviolet1 · 25/08/2017 06:32

Did he settle ok during the night namechange? Or was he just getting up to feed? Don't be disheartened!

OP posts:
purpleviolet1 · 25/08/2017 06:32

If it helps I read that waking up between 6-7 is quite normal for a baby

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 25/08/2017 06:53

Thanks purple, yes at night I'm still feeding to sleep (want to wean him off one thing at a time!) but last night was pretty straightforward as he went back to sleep pretty quickly each time, thankfully. Mostly he's not too difficult to settle at night with a few exceptions of course (had some more difficult nights over the last couple of weeks).
I guess any time from 6am isn't too bad but he goes to bed around 8pm atm (7.45-8.15 is the window I aim for) and given that he doesn't have that much daytime sleep I would like to aim for 11 hours at night if possible (including any night wakings) so that would take us until 7am. But if he keeps waking around 6.30am maybe I could try bringing forward bedtime to 7.30pm instead.

Did you manage to get your DS back to sleep or is he up for the day now?

coupester · 25/08/2017 07:28

Mine always wakes around 6:30 for a bottle so we tend to make bedtime 7pm, sometimes a bit earlier. He will go to bed earlier but won't sleep in later, so that's what worked for us.

DS went back to sleep but woke at 6:30 for breakfast, he managed to leak into his grobag (second night in a row). Not sure how to avoid that as I changed him after his last feed at 10pm. I don't want to wake him again a few hours later just for a nappy change!

Am hoping he will nap now but I think it will take him a while to settle...

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/08/2017 09:39

Have you tried the 12hr nappies. They are good and no leaks

We use the Aldi ones. We've never had a problem at night before, it's just been the last two nights. Which is odd because it coincided with when I started putting him in a grobag! I don't know how that can make him pee more!

It's time to move him up a size, so maybe that's the issue. Might look at 12hr ones though, thank you.

coupester · 25/08/2017 11:11

I hated the pampers nappies! I found them to be the worst I'd tried.

100yearsdotcom · 25/08/2017 12:48

DD will wake for a feed around 7-8am then has always wanted to nap straight after which I'm fine with generally as it means I can get a bit more rest. She will sleep in chunks from 7pm onwards but goes properly to sleep between 9 and 10pm. I'm happy with that as she catnaps in daytime so good for her to get a longer period of sleep at night. It was good to read that biologically at this age catnaps are very normal!

100yearsdotcom · 25/08/2017 12:50

I use aldi ones and they're great overnight, no leaks whereas pampers leaked in day!

purpleviolet1 · 25/08/2017 17:04

Another one who uses Aldi nappies! I like their wipes too.

Hugh how annoying! I lost a bottle a while ago, in the bedroom. Looked everywhere. Came out from
Under the bed.... had to throw it away 😱

Namechange, I tried to settle him for 15 mins after which I gave up. But he did go back to sleep at 7.15 for a couple of hours so I got some rest then too.

Today has been much more normal in terms of awake time and naps! Don't know what happened yesterday.

Night 5 of sleeping without the dummy....

MotherofA · 25/08/2017 17:31

I lost a bottle lid not long ago and it drove me wappy, it was under the bed . Luckily not a whole bottle but it really annoyed me when I couldn't find it !
That's annoying Hugh can you buy one cheap one from a supermarket or something ?
I'm going to order some number 3 teats when we get back .
I've found it good being away with lo and because we were in the U.K. This time we took our steriliser and perfect prep 👌🏼

NameChange30 · 25/08/2017 17:38

Glad you had a better day purple!
Ours was a bit better, DS had short naps but it wasn't too much trouble getting him to sleep each time, thankfully. And no 5 hour stretch today thank goodness!

Happy weekend to you all - 3 days and the weather forecast is good here Smile

purpleviolet1 · 25/08/2017 21:35

Happy weekend to you too namechange Grin

We haven't been away with ds yet , mainly because we moved house and are settling in now. Do want to get away for a few days though, not sure if we should stick to the uk or go abroad. Any recommendations?

OP posts:
NameChange30 · 25/08/2017 21:44

We've been away quite a bit:

France by train (Eurostar and TGV) - long journey but went smoothly. Didn't have to take too much luggage because we were going to in laws and they had stuff like a car seat, cot, pushchair.

UK breaks - one nearby, one further away. A good option because we took all our stuff in the car. Closer definitely better than further though (long car journey with baby = stressful!) Get a self catering place with a washing machine.

We are also going away by plane next month, will be DS' first trip by plane... packing will be tricky but will hopefully be worth it for the sunshine when we get there!
