New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

@mightymouse76 @Paige84 I have a crying cranky baby who is refusing to sleep too. Resorted to either letting him sleep on my chest where he is happy or have just put the sling on so I can actually go make some food today.

Envious of those getting long sleeps, most is 3 hours here but normally 1.5-2 hour stints overnight.

Rabbitykins55 · 10/07/2017 21:50

@mightymouse76 I let him sleep on his side. He's way more comfortable. I weighed up the risks and made a judgement call that way. It's made the difference between him sleeping and not.

MrsJW15 · 10/07/2017 22:34

We are working on a bed time routine but still small steps here. Some nights recently she has done 6-8 hours which is great. But @Badgerbird my boobs are always solid when I wake - or wake me up. She sometimes doesn't eat that much at that first feed so they can be very leaky when I get up later on!

Key thing also is that she's rarely asleep before midnight. @CoxsOrangePippin Baby W is often awake from 7pm until bedtime other than cat naps which basically means grumpy evenings for her and we struggle to eat together. Bed time is late but then she sleeps well. On the other hand she seems to change every few days at the moment! Other than the late bedtime which is constant.

We are in France and the in laws are stressing me out already. Must remember we will be on our own from Thursday.

savagehk · 10/07/2017 23:55

mighty does a sling not work for naps?

teainbed · 11/07/2017 02:13

How old is he @vanilla8 ?

vanilla8 · 11/07/2017 02:26

@teainbed he is just over 6 weeks. I'm wondering if he has a cold as has been sneezing and coughing quite a bit today and just wants to be held. Has been a real fight to get him to sleep tonight since 9pm.Moved him into my bed from the co sleeping crib & sleepyhead at 00:50, he has now woke up at 02:00 screaming his head off

Badgerbird · 11/07/2017 04:59

Hope he's ok and yiure all fast asleep now vanilla.

It's so interesting to see how different all our gorgeous babies are with sleep and feed "routines"

Carla goes to bed around 10 (which I find early and boring). I feed her in bed for around an hour. Into sleepyhead in snoozepod.
She sleeps 3/4 hours, wakes, 1 hr feed.
sleeps 2.5 hrs, 1 hr feed & change, sleeps 1-2 hrs, feeds then naps again if lucky.
Only naps in sling in day.

We don't have a bedtime routine yet as DH often doesn't get home till aprox 7.30 then we catch up, have dinner etc.... 10pm comes round way too fast! Anyway I was out walking her in sling round park at 7.30 tonight as she hadn't napped all day bless her and was so shattered. Sound familiar vanilla!?
MIL had taken her for first time today on a walk at 1pm for 2 hrs to allow me to catch up on life and she didn't sleep in buggy Sad then we had to go out so she just cat napped in car etc....

She still eats every 3 hrs aprox too and feeds take 40-60 mins.

I love that some people's big feeds take 30 mins, that's a short feed here Confused

Have a great time in France mrsjw, not too long till thurs Wink

Hope feed was less fractious mighty.

MrsJW15 · 11/07/2017 06:19

Morning @Badgerbird! Our feeds are often 40-60 mins too. I keep waiting for her to get more efficient 😃

CoxsOrangePippin · 11/07/2017 08:13

DH doesn't get home til a similar time Badgerbird, we just gobble something with half our attention on Little Pippin then start bedtime. Maybe we need to do bedtime later so we can catch up more and overlap more with baby's sleep

teainbed · 11/07/2017 08:56

Are you breastfeeding @vanilla8 ? Think BabyTea was doing similar at 6 weeks. It's always so tempting to meddle!

BabyTea is going to bed between 8 and 9. I prefer this because I get an hour or two off in the evenings. We're up early anyway with the other dc.

vanilla8 · 11/07/2017 10:03

Yes I'm breast feeding, baby vanilla does have a cold, no fever as yet. Did someone mention nasal aspirator?

DH had him on his chest till 5am and I've been up since, scoping amazon prime day inbetween feeds whilst he's in my arms

peasandquiet · 11/07/2017 11:12

Morning all, feeling pretty lucky with my speedy feeder, 20mins is a long feed for him. Daytime he can be as quick as 5mins. it's about the only BF problem we haven't had! Fairly good night last night he did 10-5 with only about 2 dummy stops and then I fed him at 5 - feel much better as we have had a rough few days. He's now sleeping in the snuzpod without the sleepyhead as he likes to stretch out ! Hoping to stilll use for naps otherwise only 7 wks use which is a shame especially as he is my last baby!

Those scoping out prime day if a baby swing come up let me know! Can't bring myself to spend loads so looking for a basic bargain one!

Acorncat · 11/07/2017 11:12

Not doing a routine here, I try and feed her to sleep so I can hand her to DH whilst I get DS to sleep which is usually about 8pm then go to bed when she wakes again, usually about 10 or 11. She does a similar night to Savage's, awake about 3,5 then 8ish. As we cosleep and she just latches on when she wants I don't often wake up properly, I can just tell by looking at my fitbit sleep pattern!

It's funny how different they all are. Mine still feeds every 2 hours during the day, very occasionally will stretch to 3 if she's asleep. And then overnight. Compare that to those that feed every 4 hours and sleep most of the night, mine must be having easily twice the number of feeds! Luckily she just feeds for 10-15 minutes and no wonder she's on 98th centile for weight

I still don't put her down to sleep, she just looks so comfy all snuggled in Blush

savagehk · 11/07/2017 11:55

acorn I honestly can't remember clipping my bra back in after feeds. At all. But I clearly do :D

I usually remember being woken by the odd grunting/grizzling that happens before full on wailing (we usually don't get to that stage!), then I try to remember which breast this time and get the nipple in her mouth, but from then on I remember nothing Blush

Last night I think she 'slept through' - she was asleep before me (10.30? Earlier?) and I'm almost certain she didn't wake at all before 5.30 (!!). I think she's got a bit of a cold so perhaps that's why. She then had both breasts (which were massive by then!) in one sitting, which is unusual....

CoxsOrangePippin · 11/07/2017 12:37

I've splashed out on a pricey but cute 'treetop friends' baby gym on prime day - was going to get one on gumtree for a tenner but I'm telling myself it's a present for his 2 month birthday Blush

1004Rise · 11/07/2017 12:52

Most feeds for baby rise are less than 10 minutes, she only takes from one side and we go 2 -2.5 hrs between. So I read about your 40/60 minute feeds and have a mild panic and have to remind myself she's been doing this almost from the start and she keeps gaining weight as she should. I still question it every time she drops off though!

We have no routine sometimes I get a 4 hour sleep then a couple of 1 hours, sometimes it's just 1.5 hrs through the night. Most of the time DH gives up and goes to sleep in the other room, which is easier for me because then I only have to deal with my sleep deprivation....!

FoxMulder · 11/07/2017 12:54

Baby fox did 2 poos in the night last night which was seriously crap because it takes ages to settle her after a change. Still usually really hard to get her to sleep in the evening too. It was 11pm last night which is way past my bedtime!

FoxMulder · 11/07/2017 12:55

paige sorry your husband is being shit. Why does he get to opt out of being a parent?!

CoxsOrangePippin · 11/07/2017 13:41

paige it can definitely be lonely this mummy thing. Sorry your DH is being not so D.

I read this which I thought captured well how I'm feeling about early motherhood - I definitely haven't reached the end of the 100 days yet but fingers crossed...

There's a lot in that article I can identify with @CoxsOrangePippin !

We have no daytime routine at all, it's just pot luck still.

My lovely health visitor came today. BabyTea weighs 13 and a half pounds! She was asking lots about sleep and routines and things. She was even happy to chat about formula. We have second immunisations this week too.

BouncingBlueberry · 11/07/2017 16:33

@CoxsOrangePippin Fantastic article. Sums me up right now.

vanilla8 · 11/07/2017 17:37

I had my lovely HV this morning too Tea although she said she won't be back until baby is 1 year old now, unless I call her. She stressed the importance of getting help with regard to PND and was very supportive.

I keep spending inbetween feeds, had this mat on my baby wish list and it's on sale now for prime day

Tiny Love Super Mat - Sunny Mat https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0034G61DC/ref=cmswwrcppapi_i3pzzb6F35G8F

Thankfully baby vanilla is napping better today

EsmesBees · 11/07/2017 19:25

That's a great mat vanilla. We've had a lot of play out of ours. It's great when they start rolling around.

It's pot luck here too tea. Apart from you can guarantee that she'll wake up as soon as we get to playgroup or whatever toddler activity we are going to. Glad baby tea is doing well.

The article is right Cox it does get easier, but the bit before can be really stretching. I feel like I'm a weird baby bubble and struggling to care about anything beyond taking care of the children.

We are 6 weeks in and debating whether to introduce a bottle. Breastfeeding is going really well, so I don't feel I need to, but would like to get her used to a bottle so it's not only me doing bedtimes.

mightymouse76 · 11/07/2017 22:12

@CoxsOrangePippin that article is brilliant, thanks for posting! The relationship description is spot on...

@teainbed good weigh in! How did baby tea react to the 8 week jabs? Mini mighty is 38.1 degrees right now after two doses of infant paracetamol and I'm worried about going to sleep in case it goes up and I miss it. I guess fitting is the problem with it going higher?

I think there are a few post 8 week jabs babies here- your experiences would be great to hear

MrsJW15 · 11/07/2017 22:36

@EsmesBees feeding going well here but we've started (at 5 weeks) doing the occasional bottle of expressed milk. Initially it's so I can leave her for a couple of hours if I needed to. Planning for DH to do a regular feed at some stage. We figured feeding was established enough that there would be no nipple confusion and we wanted to be sure we started early enough that she'd take a bottle.
