strawberry you can't really be a carrier of chicken pox if you have had it yourself. I work with tiny babies, immunocompromised children, seriously unwell people and pregnant colleagues, and no one raised any concerns about me working while DDs had chicken pox. Hope your DD remains ok with it

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 15/07/2017 07:27

Strawberry you will be fine, they are actually contagious week before and until spots scab over, still surprises me nurseries exclude them if well was they have already spread the germs.

Strawberryfield12 · 17/07/2017 09:38

Thank you Happy and Eastmids, makes me feel much better. DD is absolutely fine with the chickenpox, the only problem she has is that they are itchy despite Virasoothe and Peritol. We have managed to keep her inside during the weekend, but today is a nice day outside and I wonder how do I explain a 2 yo she shouldn't go outside, except our own garden, because she has spots.

moggle · 19/07/2017 08:58

Can you go for a walk somewhere there aren't likely to be many people around, any nice woods near you? DD was off nursery from Tuesday to the following Tuesday with her chicken pox as she kept getting new spots for 6 days. But she did have a particularly nasty bout. 2 months after the first spot and she still has many marks on her torso, arms and legs, they are fading though and I'm sure they'll be completely gone by Christmas.
Hope your DD continues to be well with it!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 19/07/2017 13:07

We were off a week luckily was sunny but went to a little park not far from us as always empty and also popped to shops. We still haves lots marks and had them 2mths ago.

Went to Alton towers Mon and a smaller theme park for under 10s in Midlands yesterday went on my owan with both boys was an hr & 20mins each way to both places they were both v well behaved and loved the days out. Ds2 at nursery today and ds1 just chilliyat home I haven't done much either

Strawberryfield12 · 21/07/2017 12:27

We have started to take DD out, her spots are pretty much scabbed and herself she never seemed to be affected too much. We are visiting DH family, DD's one cousin still has to get chickenpox, and his mum almost prefers him pick it up and get over it.

DH has taught DD to use the voice commands on kids Youtube for the search of the videos. Lots of "peppa pig" and "fairies" going on at the moment.

MrsAukerman · 23/07/2017 14:39

Just heading home from diggerland Yorkshire. Would recommend. Spent about 4 hours there but could have happily done it all over again but ds was getting tired. He's now fast asleep in the car.

Have heard good things about diggerland, not far from Alton towers there is JCB land

ladydolly · 23/07/2017 21:52

I think we will need to head for JCB world soon, DD LOVES the building site on the way to the childminders! We took her to Star Wars Identities at the O2 today... and dressed her in yoda costume. She LOVED it! Great fun :)

happypotamus · 23/07/2017 22:12

DD also loves diggers. She is the only one of us that will miss the school run, as they are building new houses down the road from the school and she is very excited to see 'blue digger' twice a day. We might have to make special trips to visit it! Where is JCBland eastmids?
strawberry I didn't know there were voice commands on YouTube. I will not be telling DC about them. It wouldn't work for DD2 though, because her favourite thing to watch on YouTube is clips from Trolls movie, but for some reason she calls it 'monster peebles' and YouTube wouldn't understand.
Got home from work about a hour ago, am off for 10 days now and have no plans.

happypotamus · 23/07/2017 22:18

Also, does anyone know where I can get a little plastic figure of George Pig? DD loves these Peppa Pig toys, took them to MIL's today, was very careful with them, then my nephew took it and lost George and no one could find him Sad I don't want to buy a whole new set of characters because they are expensive and I don't need Peppa or anyone else but I'm not sure it's possible to buy George on his own.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 24/07/2017 18:26

Happy just outside the village of Alton

Well the nap has gone why did I not Cherise the final one!

Happy - little peppa pig characters each one with a piece random crap £3.99 john Lewis (great bribery when shopping)

happypotamus · 26/07/2017 16:12

Thanks eastmids I would not have thought of John Lewis. I got George Pig with a beige plastic rectangle that is apparently a sand castle, and it was in the sale so less than £3. George is wearing a different top to the old lost one, but hopefully DD won't notice as I intend to claim it is the same one and pretend MIL found it.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 26/07/2017 21:13

Well done on a sale find with George, yeah we found them in there while back and for £4 cheap bribery when shopping. 😀

Just booked laser tag party for ds1 7th bday got last minute deal but organising is nightmare texting random parents whjo you hope is right kids parent from whatsap parent group going by their whatsap profile pic 😀

Strawberryfield12 · 27/07/2017 19:26

Yes Happy! You have to press on search icon, then on the microphone and tell what you are searching for. I would've never thought about it because since Siri came out and didn't understand a thing I was telling/asking, I don't bother with voice commands. But seems that last few years they have sorted few issues with accents, toddler talk etc. Alexa does understand me and Youtube gets DD. Grin I am sure DD will remember what she has to say to get her favorite cartoons appearing.

How are your days off Happy? Did you worked something nice to do? i'm not on holiday until September, usually time from 15 July - 31 August is very quiet at work, so I thought I wouldn't waste my holidays going with everybody else while I can choose when to go. But this year so far it's been hellish at work, I have big hopes on August... :)

happypotamus · 27/07/2017 22:32

strawberry I predicted that DDs would wake up earlier now we don't have to get up for school and I was right. DD2 has a terrible cough that wakes her up throughout the night and early in the morning (nursery said a few kids in her room had had croup recently but fortunately it's not that). She woke up at 4.20am on Monday and 6ish on Tuesday and Wednesday. Last night I was awake for at least a bit of almost every hour and spent some of the night sleeping on her floor, so this week has been mostly about surviving sleep deprivation and I feel like I will need another week off to recover!. She went to nursery as usual, as the cough is only bad at night and she was adamant she wasn't poorly and wanted to go, but we haven't done anything much. To be honest, both DDs seem to have been have been happy enough pottering round the house and garden, going to craft activities at the library, and tomorrow we are going to 'Teddy Bear Hospital' at the local university medical school, which involves activities around health and biology and pretending to be a doctor I think.
We are finally sorting out a bed for DD2 this weekend, partly so she is used to it in case we do go away because she still has plenty of room in her cot but might not fit in a travel cot. The positive of her terrible sleeping at the moment is it can't really get much worse when she moves into a bed as it is already so bad. I expect to find myself falling asleep next to her in the bed waiting for her to go to sleep which will be more comfortable than falling asleep sitting on the floor like I sometimes do at the moment.
We are considering going away when I have another week off in August. Surprisingly, it is possible to book a reasonable looking cottage in various areas of the country still, so we might book somewhere tomorrow after pay day, probably in Wales as it is the nearest coast to us.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/07/2017 14:22

So day off as annual leave today having chilling morning at home ds2 at nursery ds1 playing hama beads he goes upstairs hear him screaming n for on!y reasons he knows he had stuck a hama nbead up his nose, I try to see it aim with tweezers do the blowing thing nothing, he is a nightmare with anything slightly wrong with him full on screaming won't let me touch him, ring GP they send us to children A&E (our first ever trip) thankfully really quiet won't let anyone touch him they looked with torch can see it stuffed right hip there paed registrar says I am not attempting to get that put he is too skitish refer to ENT then told to starve him will need an anatesthic (he screamed if they breathed near him). ENT doc came she was pretty firm but kind with him so me & paed doc held him down n she went for it she took 3 goes as he moved but when we got him still it took 5 secs she said 3 attempts was her max. He then wanted the Hama bead to finish his frigging Bee at home!!!

I was the typical rubbish children's nurse with my own children patience ran out but also because he wasn't Ill.

We were in & pout within 2hrs as it was so quiet but why oh why he diud it I don't know

I need wine now

ladydolly · 28/07/2017 14:53

Yikes eastmids!!! What a nightmare!! So what does he say about it now? Does he think it was one big adventure?

We had the home visit from the new nursery today, they were great, not fazed at all that dd refused to wear trousers the whole time.

Rough week happy, I hope you get some sleep soon.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/07/2017 15:04

Lady its a not to be mentioned event although he agreed me holding him down was better than sleepy medicine and many hrs in hospital.

Lady hope she enjoys nursery.

Ds2 has made a proper little friend at nursery they have invited us for a "playdate" tomorrow so I best be on my best behaviour 😁

Strawberryfield12 · 28/07/2017 15:43

A home visit Lady?! I didn't know nurseries do home visits!

ladydolly · 28/07/2017 15:53

eastmids that makes them seem so grown up to have playdates??

strawberry I know right?? I've never heard of them either. But I've also never heard of a £600 deposit 5 months before they start but they did that too!

Strawberryfield12 · 28/07/2017 16:49

That sounds like an Eaton of the nurseries world. Did they ask you to provide your ancestry records for last five generations? Grin

ladydolly · 28/07/2017 18:54

We live in near a naice area but this isn't even the posh nursery! I did ask DP if he thinks we did ok at the visit and he looked at me like I was mad...

happypotamus · 28/07/2017 22:25

eastmids your day sounds remarkably like an experience I had last year when DD1's school rang to say she had a plastic bead stuck in her nose and I had to take her to A&E to have it removed. They also threatened an operation if it didn't come out, and she also refused to put it in the bin once it was out because the teacher would want it back. According to her, this was nothing to do with her and the bead jumped into her nose by itself. Good luck with your playdate tomorrow.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 29/07/2017 09:07

Happy glad I am not the only one who has "jumping beads"

Lady ds1 nursery used to take a £25 reg fee and one week fees as deposit. Ds2 nursery took nothing obviously just pay a MTH in advance
