So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

Glad to hear that purple Smile

I've just had a really difficult 24 hours with DS, yesterday he only had really short naps and had a massive crying fit at one point, which I found stressful, upsetting and exhausting to deal with. Then he didn't fall asleep for the night until 11pm, woke up at 2.30am for an hour and has been waking up pretty much hourly (or less) since then. Maybe he's going through a growth spurt or something but I feel like a zombie!

purpleviolet1 · 22/05/2017 10:06

Thanks carol! I'll give it a try today. Up until now I've been making feed up fresh but he's nearly 10 weeks now and I feel comfortable moving away.

I've noticed nappy leaking last few nights but I think it's because we've put him on his side as it helps the reflux. Not for the whole night, maybe just after the 3/4 am feed.

Namechange hope it is just a growth spurt (sounds it) how old is your LO? I felt like I was losing my sanity when ds was crying non stop from 9am to midnight when eventually exhausted and then getting up at 3am and 7am. It was just so exhausting to handle him all day and then not getting a solid sleep after that. If I've learnt anything it's that it's not normal and it's important to keep pushing if it persists. I feel terrible that he has probably had the reflux since birth and although it wasn't as bad as 16 hours straight crying without sleep, he did cry after every feed and seem unsettled. I just didn't know the signs 😞 think I could've saved myself a lot of stress if I noted the symptoms and realised the pattern earlier. I was putting it down to wind.

Keep an eye but hopefully just a little glitch.

Thanks purple, he's 10 weeks old... the Wonder Weeks app (which goes by due date, not birth date) says he's going through a "leap" in development atm, which might explain it. I guess I'm lucky in that he doesn't usually cry endlessly without me being able to calm him down, which was why it was such a shock to the system yesterday!

Please try not to feel guilty about your DS, we are all new at this (even those who already have DCs, as all babies are different) and have to learn what our babies need. It is difficult when you get conflicting advice from family, Mumsnet and even health visitors and doctors.

We've had a very clingy, crying day today, after a really good night as well. I say good coz she actually went back to sleep after her 4am feed. Yay.

Today she's had 2 1 hour naps. 1 in the car on the way to the shop and 1 laying on me. Finally let me put her in her Moses for 30 mins and now is sucking her lips for next feed. On the bright side its better than crying Smile

Just finished my "chores" for the day, that's not to say I have nothing to do round the house I've just finished what I planned on doing today Wink

Had an nice long (more than 5 mins) shower and just sat down to caught up on my sky recordings. DD started sucking her lips 😭 went in the kitchen to flick the kettle on, come back and she gone back to sleep 🤸🤸💃🕺💃🕺

Carolann8584 · 22/05/2017 21:27

Hugh, I don't even bother doing that much lol Smile

Nicky2468 · 23/05/2017 09:42

Bloody 8 week jabs have undone all the good work I've started with sleeping 😠! Sleepyhead being picked up today so fingers crossed it'll work magic. Oh and thanks soooooooo much **Carolann for the tip about the swinging chair - it made a huge difference in consoling him last night as he was very upset and in discomfort after the jabs. It was a miracle ☹️👍

Carolann8584 · 23/05/2017 12:15

They're great aren't they, even just to give your arms a break. Especially if your LO wants the sway movement Grin

Carolann8584 · 24/05/2017 01:40

Hoping someone's awake, DD 2 months old today, our bedroom is 24 degrees and she is sweating in vest and sleepsuit. I would normally ditch her blanket and put her in her grobag now but think she overheat what should I put her in to sleep?

Nicky2468 · 24/05/2017 03:05

Probably caught this too late but I'm up now! How about no vest so just the sleepsuit and a grow bag?!
My room's about 20/21 and DS is in a vest, sleepsuit and a 'miracle swaddle'. I'm always wondering whether I should open/close the window!

troodiedoo · 24/05/2017 03:45

Mine is 23 and she has vest, sleep suit and a muslin over her. I think thin layers are best, I would lose the grow bag

doleritedinosaur · 24/05/2017 04:36

What tog is the gro bag?

I would lose the sleepsuit definitely.

Our room is over 20 degrees & DS is in just a vest & ive got a thin blanket he keeps kicking off & he is definiteky warm.

If you touch the back of baby's neck, that tells you if they're hot or cold. Really handy for nights like this.

NameChange30 · 24/05/2017 05:56

YY it's hot where we are and DS is just sleeping in a vest with a thin blanket he keeps kicking off. He is quite a hot baby and I am paranoid about him overheating.

purpleviolet1 · 24/05/2017 07:16

It's not as warm where we are - ds has vest and babygro, either with light sheet or thin swaddle blanket.

Going to baby massage this morning! It'll be first time on the bus...

Never had as good a night last night, and I reckon it was because of the timings he went to sleep/fed. I know Gina Ford is disliked generally but her routine, when applied very loosely in my experience works nicely..

Went for vest and sleep suit til 4:30 feed then I needed my duvet on my feet so put her in her grobag 2.5tog until now when I got up for breakfast with DP she always wakes with us so took her out of grobag.

Still warm again today yay can put her in her summer outfits Grin

purpleviolet1 · 24/05/2017 10:01

I'm afraid we are going to baby massage in a babygro clearly intended for night time.. grey with stars.... it was a mad rush as he was awake from 6.30am. Playing until 8.10am when he nodded off and then woke crying at 8.30am and basically cried from then until now. But I made the bus! Never managed to have breakfast though Sad grabbed a banana but it's all soft at the top......

I've given up on daytime clothes for now. Sleep suits just so much easier for changing and naps.

NameChange30 · 24/05/2017 10:48

DS wore sleepsuits / onesies for the first 2 months, we only bothered putting him in outfits occasionally! We do put him in "bundlers" (long nighties) at night so sleepsuits are a change at least Grin

He's in his 3-6 month size clothes now and he has a few outfits that are easy enough to dress him in. But I would feel no shame in chucking a sleepsuit on him if necessary! They are cute anyway!

Carolann8584 · 25/05/2017 13:30

Think this heat is too much for my DD, 5 hours since her last feed and she's snoozing showing no signs that she wants to wake up. Got all Windows and doors open so there's a really nice breeze going through the house.

purpleviolet1 · 27/05/2017 19:44

Hope everyone is enjoying the heat Grin

Nicky2468 · 27/05/2017 20:09

Hmm not really. Grumpy baby and grumpy me!!!!

Carolann8584 · 27/05/2017 20:28

DD had a good couple of days snoozing a lot, had to wake her to feed so she didn't get dehydrated. We have my DSSs until Wednesday now and as usual she doesn't nap while they are here and now 30 minutes after her usual "bedtime" she's over tired and not wanting to go sleep. I'm predicting it will be the same until Wednesday. Really not looking forward to the next few days

purpleviolet1 · 28/05/2017 11:45

I think I sometime get too caught up in stimulating ds too much / not looking for the cues - he woke at 8.30 had feed but clocked him yawning a couple of times and by 9.15 started grizzling so put him
Back down and he has been sleeping since 9.27 lol. He was over tired yesterday and didn't sleep much all day (maximum 1.5 hours since 9am - 8.45pm) and it took us till 11.30pm to finally put him down for the night. It's quite tough when he is in pain as we often miss the tired window and then it's a vicious circle of being overtired and unable to settle!

The ranitidine has helped but things are still pretty hard but it has been suggested he may have a cows milk protein intolerance as it can come hand in hand with reflux so we are weaning him onto nutramagen formula now.

Does anyone else's baby sometimes wake up suddenly, crying inconsolably as if they've had a nightmare? DS does it sometimes, it's a different cry from his hungry one, and he does seem really scared and upset. Nothing a cuddle won't fix (and a feed if it's really bad and a cuddle doesn't completely calm him down) but it's a bit heartbreaking!

purple I'm glad the ranitidine has helped a bit - hope the new formula does the trick.
