So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

NameChange30 · 11/05/2017 19:28

Enjoy your bath Carol! Smile

Carolann8584 · 11/05/2017 19:54

Had a 10 minute bath!! 😭😭

So disappointed.

Oh well DD cuddles instead

NameChange30 · 11/05/2017 19:57

Have one tomorrow night when your DP is around to take care of DD for half an hour Smile

purpleviolet1 · 11/05/2017 21:08

Ooo I forgot to ask if I could have a bath but imagine I can now 8 weeks post section? Although my wound is still weeping. Anyone else with c section had a soak yet? Not sure I'll quite manage getting in and out as I'm still quite sore..

I'll check out the app thanks!

Another unsettled night for DD. Had trouble getting her to sleep after her 4am feed. Kept fighting going to sleep, even in my arms.

She's taking her mid morning nap, usually doesn't last longer than an hour but HV coming in half an hour so can't even try and grab a wink nevermind 40 Wink

purpleviolet1 · 12/05/2017 09:42

Same here carolann, ds is so wriggly and uncomfortable during the night he just doesn't get into a deep sleep, especially after the 4am feed. Noticed that for a few nights now. So I've been up shushing, patting, offering dummy until he started wailing at which point I had to keep moving him around to get him comfy. And then after 8am feed he just cried and cried, didn't even finish his bottle. He is exhausted now so I've put him on his side in Moses basket. He is trying really hard to nod off. Really hope this ranitidine works Sad

What are everyone's thoughts about sleeping on front? Not just for the sake of it but if it's the only way you can get LO to settle ?

Think my LO was uncomfortable, she's just filled her nappy twice in an hour, very runny 😷

Carolann8584 · 12/05/2017 11:25

Going out of both ends now. Sad poor little lady

Carolann8584 · 12/05/2017 11:25

She seems fine now, had another feed and a nap since and kept it all down.

I got a tip off the HV for DDs milk rash on her neck and behind her ears from spit up during the night. She said put Vaseline on her and the milk won't touch her skin.

DD loves tummy time but I haven't thought about putting her to sleep like that, she likes drifting off in her donut cushion, some times on her side in the cushion

Awww hugh sorry your LO is unsettled, we've had a couple of days of DD not sleeping, lot better today though.

It's true what they say, the better they sleep during the day the better they sleep at night. I can definitely see the difference.

Think she is having a growth spurt, nearly finishing her 5oz feeds everytime.

purpleviolet1 · 14/05/2017 07:52

Aww sorry you got caught in the rain Hugh ! Hope LO is more settled today.

Carolann that is so true, since the reflux issues LO has hardly slept but last night he fed at 8, unsettled on and off until 10.30 when he finally slept and instead of waking up at 12 he got up at 2.45am for feed. He went straight back to sleep (really miss these days 😩) and woke at 6.30ish. He was soo happy , content, smiling a LOT and i honestly believe the sleep made a world of difference. Day 3 of ranitidine. Really hope this helps.

Awww bless him purple he must have liked his longer naps Smile glad you had a bit of a break. Love the morning smiles (well all smiles) after they've had a good sleep.

My LO has been waiting longer between night feeds, 5 hours, she's not asleep for the full 5 but it's good she's waiting a bit longer. She's having more of her feeds now not just top ups. Last night she had a 7:30 feed went down at 8:30, them woke at 12:30 for next feed went back down at 1:30 then woke again at 6:30 for feed and stayed awake until 9:30. Napping now.

She's staying awake longer after her night feeds but that's my fault. I'm trying to keep her upright for a bit after feeds, since I've been doing that she had less spit up especially during the night.

How is everyone bathing their little ones?

www.mamasandpapas.com/en-gb/acqua-bambino-two-stage-bath-pearl-white/p/4538472/#BVRRWidgetID

We have the above bath and it's great for the newborn insert but difficult to bend over the bath (when placed in the big bath) and support head. If we want to bath on a table for example the plastic bath is too heavy to lift as its so big.

Need something more practical for now

We've got a Shnuggle baby bath, which is designed so the baby sits in it and you don't have to support their head. We've found it good so far. Only slight downside is that it can be a bit tricky to wash all the folds/creases, particularly his neck and bum, when he's sitting in it!

purpleviolet1 · 15/05/2017 08:52

Thanks is it quite easy to transport with water in it?

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 15/05/2017 08:56

We use this, she can sit in it unsupported

Yes, one of the things I like about it is that it's compact so you don't need much water. We put it in the big bath so don't carry it around but it's very easy to lift and tip the water out.

Good luck Hugh! Just give baby the Calpol straight away and it'll be fine Smile

purpleviolet1 · 15/05/2017 12:30

Arggh Hugh what a fantastic idea bathing with shower head!

My issue too is the leaning bending over the back. Don't know how people do it Confused unless I'm missing a trick
