Thought I'd start a new thread as the old one is getting full!

I think my DS1 is older than yours, which might help things.

MrsElls · 03/04/2017 09:19

Ah I fell off the thread, arrived early for a meeting though so sitting in a pret with a chocolate croissant and catching up! As soon as I sat down I got hiccups though so now I'm wishing my hot chocolate was something cold! Lovely to hear about the walkers, C is a master at cruising and likes to walk holding hands but isn't quite brave enough to go it alone yet. She is a master and climbing though and thankfully is just as good at getting down safely. Her favourite spot is standing on the toy box banging on the window at anyone who passes. This weekend she mastered the steps to ds1's slide, she climbs up then waits patiently at the top until I hold her hand to slide down as it's a bit fast!

I'm planning on using the Easter bank hols to stop bf, she only has it morning and evening but after nursery when she is tired she often falls asleep on it which means poor ds1 either gets ignored or has to listen to her cry whilst I'm trying to get her ready. I'm thinking a Sippy cup of milk might be less comforting and she might stay awake a bit longer.

Ds had his jabs yestersay, been screaming all night after settling for bed at almost midnight and am now still up trying to console him. Temperature of 38-39 giving him calpol and rocking him . Legs are red , hot and swollen ( were like this last time and the swelling last a month ). I don't understand why this happens to him every time . My previous children got little to no symptoms . I hope this doesn't go on as I am so tired I can barely open my eyes and so is he Sad

DomesticAnarchist · 05/04/2017 07:57

Oh no @sherazade, hope you both got some sleep.

Did you report the reaction to the GP?

FirstTimeMummy25 · 05/04/2017 20:17

@sherazade my DS had his jabs last Friday and his legs did the same were swollen, bright red and he screamed every time he leant on them, was picked up or I touched them and then he wouldn't stop crying for ages, he was hot too and kept giving calpol however don't think our night sounded as bad as yours. I hope he's feeling better now and that you both have managed to catch up on some sleep!

Me624 · 05/04/2017 20:30

Hope you and DS got a bit more sleep sher. My DS has got his jabs the week after next, I am hoping he won't have a bad reaction. He didn't really react at all to any of the 2/3/4 month ones but I guess it is the MMR that many of them react to?

Wow MrsE sounds like you've got a real monkey! Good luck with stopping bfing.

DS said "Mama" for the first time yesterday as an actual word rather than just babbling mumumumum which is what he normally does. I went to pick him up from nursery and he didn't really notice me walk into the room and then when he did see me his little face lit up and he said Mama loud and clear! I was so proud. Some of my friends' babies have lots of words already but DS has always been much more interested in moving than talking!

DomesticAnarchist · 05/04/2017 21:52

Ah, that's so cute @Me624!

DS1 was an early talker (and then an early arguer Hmm) but DS2 has only said "bye bye" on cue a handful of times.

He babbles dadadadad and mumumum but nothing definite. Hoping that bodes well on the arguing front!

He's got his jabs next week. No reactions last time either so hoping for nothing again this time.

We're off away for the weekend, and now that we're 80% through transitioning him to cows milk I'm not sure how we're going to manage in a hotel. Do you think they'll clear out the mini bar so we can use the fridge? There might not even be a fridge. Confused Formula would have been so much easier! (And then there's the bottles...) any suggestions?

sherazade · 05/04/2017 22:52

Thanks everyone for your support
Last night was bloody horrendous with 0 hours sleep . He is such a sensitive soul with jabs, illnesses and teething. The girls were way more robust - slight yelps with jabs and long nights sleeps (and rarely got ill if ever ! My mum bless her took the girls off my hands for the day whilst I basically spent the day rocking and consoling ds. Have been giving calpol and ibuprofen and hoping tonight won't be as bad as last night!

sherazade · 05/04/2017 22:53

@DomesticAnarchist I did report his symptoms yes . They just said it was a reaction. Took weeks for the swelling to go down and looks like it will be the same again now !

TheM3ShipsCameSailingIn · 06/04/2017 08:55

@DomesticAnarchist - I'd ring up the hotel and ask about the fridge/mini bar. Otherwise, maybe just buy a pint at a time and take a coolbag?

@sherazade - God, that's a terrible reaction to the jabs. I hope it's settled down for your poor DS today.

Me624 · 06/04/2017 21:37

@DomesticAnarchist we stayed in a hotel recently and I just took stuff out the mini bar to make room for a pint of milk and put it back when we left. It's only if it's one of those fancy electronic ones that can tell when you've taken something out and automatically charges you that you need to worry!

How's DS now @sherazade?

We saw an old Spanish aunt of mine a few weeks ago, it was the first time she had met DS and she brought him a few gifts including some Spanish baby products, one of which was a bottle of what she described as "baby cologne". I thought this was rather a weird concept but I opened the bottle yesterday and wow, it smells amazing! I wore it today myself instead of my usual perfume Grin has anyone else heard of it? It's this stuff:
www.amazon.co.uk/Nenuco-Colonia-600ML-Cologne-Product/dp/B002Q23OJ4?tag=mumsnetforum-21
Apparently in Spain everyone uses it and puts it on their baby's clothes or a bit on their skin? I'm not sure I'll put it on DS, he has very sensitive skin, but I bloody love it!

Trinpy · 07/04/2017 09:27

Why don't you call the hotel and ask them Dom? If they don't have a fridge in the rooms then they might be OK with letting you use their fridge (or even just letting you use their milk if they're really generous!), then you could just buy the milk when you get there.

Your poor ds sher! I hope he feels better soon. I've been putting off the next set of jabs because I know ds2 will react badly. Every time he's had jabs he's had a raging temp that won't come down, screaming day and night, etc. I'm dreading it.

sherazade · 07/04/2017 15:14

Ahh trinpy it's awful isn't it ? I did put them off for a week or so as wasn't brave enough to go through all this the other week when I had a lot on although now I wish I had got it over with. Same here , screaming , temp that won't go down , restlessness, diarrhoea, stomach pains , basically everything that can go wrong for 48 full hours . He's a lot better now but not much appetite and still seems to have an upset tummy lasting ages which happens each time Sad

Dottydoodoo · 07/04/2017 20:25

Aww sherazade your poor DS it sounds as if he really suffers with his injections. I'm glad he seems a bit better now, fingers crossed that you get some sleep tonight.

DS has got his injections in a couple of weeks and I'm dreading them too Sad. He had a high temperature for 24 hours after the 2 and 4 month ones and was a bit grumpy for a day or so so not too bad, but he is so much more aware of what's going on now and I don't want him to get upset when he has them. Gaaaaa!

me that is so cute! Definitely a proud mummy moment. DS can roar like a lion when asked and makes a very good attempt at a moo like a cow!

Dom I have no suggestions/experience re storing the milk in the hotel, we don't get out much lol! We went away for a wedding last year and I took a sponge and a little Tupperware pot of washing up liquid to clean them with, and we took a Milton steriliser that you fill with water and sterilising fluid so no need for a microwave or any of that palaver. I hope you have a good time on your weekend away.

I'm working tomorrow, 7-19.30 so won't see DS Sad he always gets extra cuddles on a work night hence bedtime takes twice as long haha!

DomesticAnarchist · 07/04/2017 21:31

Hello! Thanks for the suggestions, all.

We've brought little bottles of ready-mixed formula which don't need to be refrigerated. He seemed to move on to the cow's milk so easily it won't be a problem to do again next week!

I've also brought washing up liquid, bottle brush, a tub and sterilising tablets, @Dottydoodoo!

sherazade · 07/04/2017 21:34

@Me624 I love smelly stuff
I've seen there's a laundry spray would it be nice as am always on the lookout for nice smelling laundry tips . Clearly am a very bored housewife !

DomesticAnarchist · 08/04/2017 04:37

Of course, everyone's restless in a hotel room. Except I've got to be up with everyone. DS2's been wakeful about every hour. With DS1 & DH in between.

I'm starving. DS2 is asleep on me now (but will wake and howl if I try to put him down). DH is snoring.

I did manage to have enough sleep to dream that DH cheated on me earlier. Which was nice.

I'm bored and tired and hungry. Come on breakfast time...

Me624 · 14/04/2017 09:08

Just realised the thread had dropped out of my 'threads I'm on' list!

How is everyone? I'm so glad it's the long weekend, I've been really manic at work.

What's the consensus on Easter eggs for the babies? DS has already got 2 eggs and we haven't even seen the GPs yet - seeing both sets over the weekend so I'm pretty sure he'll end up with another 2! He got a teeny one from nursery yesterday (like creme egg sized, though just plain chocolate) which we shared on the way home. I think I'll let him have a bit of each egg but I'll be eating the majority!

Dottydoodoo · 18/04/2017 10:11

Dom I hope your weekend away was good, and that you managed to get a bit more sleep.

me we got DS two little milkybar bunnies for Easter. He has had a little bit of one and they are sitting in a tupperware box waiting for him to demolish the rest! My in laws don't do Easter eggs, and my parents weren't sure if DS was allowed chocolate so they got him a little duplo car which he was very pleased with! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. I worked yesterday and it was super busy (nurse) I think everyone had eaten too much chocolate!!

Has anybody's little one dropped down to one nap yet? My friend at work was telling me that her children were both on one nap at DS's age, which has made me wonder if he naps too much? DS has just gone down for a sleep now and will probably have an hour ish. He generally has another nap at 3pm ish for about an hour again or sometimes even longer. By the time he gets into bed it's about 7.30 and he can take a little while to fall asleep, but once he is he sleeps through until 6.30/7 am. I don't think he is ready to drop one as he falls asleep for naps fairly quickly, but I don't actually know how to make that transition. Help!

Testar0ssa · 18/04/2017 12:34

Without wishing to sound overly familiar-I'd like to join the party please. I'd have been lost without this group for the past year: it's been such a help in knowing I'm not alone and giving me the heads up about what my baby will be doing next! (She was born at the end of the month). So a big big thank you.

A moment of quiet at work has prompted me to sign up...

We are down to one nap a day every day now (for a while she had 2 naps at the weekend). She's usually down from 12-2pm everyday unless she's had an early start and then she might go down earlier but still only sleep for 2 hours, which makes for quite a long afternoon.

I relented and gave her some chocolate to try (given to her from everyone but her parents!) but she was not interested. Icecream on the other hand was a huge hit!

vroc81 · 18/04/2017 22:18

Hi, hope everyone had good weekends and hello Testar! Enjoyed the long weekend off work, it's been really busy the last few weeks, and we went visiting rather than having visitors so that was easier.... We offered R chocolate but she spat it out.. so I ate it!! 😆

We're somewhere between one and three naps a day... weekends she has a short one when we go out in the morning in the car and a short lunch one and sometimes a late afternoon one still going to bed about 7 to 6/7.. in the week and at nursery she mostly has one long lunchtime nap... but is sometimes falling asleep in the car on the way home so I think she still needs two...

Dottydoodoo · 18/04/2017 22:28

Hello and welcome Testar0ssa Smile!

That's interesting about your DD's nap, thank you. That's the kind of routine I would like to get DS into eventually. He just loves his sleep so much at the moment, this afternoons nap he was literally asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow (he doesn't actually have a pillow, but you know what I mean!).

How funny that your little one didn't want the chocolate! Unfortunately for us DS cannot get enough of his milkybar bunny. Funnily enough though he is not so interested in ice cream unless it's on a bit of broken off cone.

This evenings dinner was a disaster! I cooked and lovingly cut up a chicken sausage, made cheesy mash and did a few baked beans mixed in. I thought DS would like it but I was so wrong! He ate one spoon of mash and wouldn't even try any sausage just threw it on the floor Sad. So, his evening meal consisted of a banana and three strawberries, and some chocolate bunny. I don't know where I am going wrong with his evening meals, more and more are getting fed to the floor! If only I knew the secrets of Ella's flipping kitchen, he gobbles her stuff up without a second glance!!

Me624 · 19/04/2017 08:32

Welcome Tesstar! Is DD your only one?

Dotty DS only has one nap on nursery days but two at the weekends and days he's with my DPs. I think he really needs two still tbh but nursery is such a busy and interesting environment that it's harder for him to switch off. He does ok on one nap if it's a decent length - 2 hours - but struggles on less than that and is very tired on pick up some days. I think he then uses his days off nursery to catch up as he'll quite often have a 2 hour plus morning nap and then another hour to 90 minutes in the afternoon!

DS has his jabs this afternoon Sad I've brought some of his Easter egg in my handbag, figure that might cheer him up afterwards!

Testar0ssa · 19/04/2017 09:23

Hi there everyone.

Yup, only the one. Thinking of a second though...definitely a lot more broody for a second than I ever was for my first. Selfishly, I enjoyed my summer 'off' with mat leave so timing it again like that would be perfect (not that one really gets much choice).

We had jabs about 2 weeks ago. She was not impressed. She's still got a bit of a lump on one side - not sure which side was which jab - but beyond the first night she's been fine since. Good luck for the jabs-it's never pleasant. My GP started with the reassuring talk about how it really was the best thing to be doing (to have her vaccinated), but I cut her off confirming that I don't need to be convinced. It concerned me that that speech came out so easily... do I live amongst anti vaxers??

Anyway, the sun is shining here. Wishing everyone a good day

TheM3ShipsCameSailingIn · 19/04/2017 15:13

Dotty We're in the middle of the 2-1 nap transition. It's a bit hit and miss, and night sleep is suffering, but we've always followed T's sleep cues rather than staying on a schedule, so it's not too bad. The morning nap is slowly creeping later, and sometimes she skips either morning or afternoon nap. DS was on 1 nap sometime around 14 months, I expect she'll be a little later but not too far off. He was a classic 2 hours after lunch kid till he turned 3, would be lovely if T does the same, especially for DH who is SAHP till DS is settled in P1 in the autumn.

Hi Testar! It's a nice group this, though it's been unusually quiet lately. Suspect lots of us are back to work, it's a tough juggling act. I've been back FT since T was 6 months.

Someone mentioned feeling broody - I know at least two March mums are already pregnant with their number 2. I'm turning 38 soon and I am definitely done with my two! I'm still bf'ing T, much to my surprise (DS went to bottles at 6 months), and no periods yet, so I'm testing every few weeks and breathing a big sigh of relief with every negative. Grin
